I have a difficult time taking My Little Pony seriously after having to watch it with my sisters when I was little.  I can take some supposedly kids-oriented shows (like Spongebob), but when the cutesy is just so over-the-top, I can't.  And honestly I don't see why this particular show, instead of all the others got made into a stupid meme that invades unrelated places.

First off, you must separate the older generations of My Little Pony with Friendship is Magic. The closest example to FiM in regards to the show would be the Powerpuff Girls. Both are girly at times, yet very action driven. Stop thinking about the old shows and think about the awesome new one.

Yea that pretty much covers it. Also it's not montonous all the time(as most kids shows are). It has a lot of funny and weird moments(not to mention strange characters). I think that also contributes to the hype.

Seriously its here to drive us normal people insane. They wont rest until we're brought to their level. To acknowledge it is to have already lost.

I hear that.  I will order The Driller to attack their base of operations

I'm sorry, are ya'll arguing that something called "Friendship is Magic" be taken seriously?  Wow.  Even if I had no experience with the old show (and the movie *shudder*), I couldn't take the premise.  It's not whimsical, fun, or adventurous.  It's cutesy.  It's about antrhopomorphized ponies in bright colors (all of which are girls) that talk and. . .do what exactly?

Try watching it and see?

It's actually a very well done cartoon, and unironically enjoyable. I have progressed far enough past my Worrying About What Other People Will Think About The Things I Like phase to proudly acknowledge I am a brony.

Every time I see one of these threads with people worrying about what other people enjoy I feel the irresistible urge to let Aveline pony out for a bit. It's funny, watching people trying to insult MLP, though I kinda feel sorry for them. If a children s show it written well, which MLP: FiM is, then there is nothing childish about it.

Because ponies are awesome, and frankly, better than about 90% of what's on television at the moment.

Not to mention that the show's got a very high adult bonus quotient. When it's sneaking in alcohol jokes and Blazing Saddles references, it's got aspirations beyond being a crappy 20-minute toy commercial.

Pardon me, but given your sig and your statement I find it hard to believe I'd enjoy the show.

It's a strange meme that will eventually fade into obscurity and be replaced by something weirder.

They said that we wouldn't survive the hiatus, but we're still getting stronger every day.  I think it is more likely that everything else will fade into obscurity.

Well, take it from a Republican Texan that studies engineering at one of the most conservative campuses in the country (I think that's probably the exact opposite of the sterotype of the average brony) - it's a damned good show. Give an episode or two a shot, and if you don't like it, whatever.

Well, I asked someone to post a clip they thought was good, and I was weirded out more than anything.

I'm thinking that it's mind control myself.  I was only watching it ironically myself for the first two, so that i'd know what I'm talking about when I troll brony friends, but then something changed.  People are not themselves around my little ponies.  They come to idolize them. Worship them. You would do anything for them. The longer you watch, the more the bronies' will seem correct. You sit at your computer and smile as the ponies pour into you. It is subtle at first. I thought I was strong enough to resist. Instead I became a willing tool eager to serve.

also, because of this

Also people tend to forget FiM's pedigree. Lauren Faust, creator of the show, is well known for her work with Powerpuff Girls, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Codename: Kids Next Door, as well as her work with the Iron Giant. To hate FiM is to hate your own childhood.

Lol your childhood maybe. Sure as hell won't mine. And I didn't like one of those above listed shows either. If My little Pony was, say GI Joe, transformers, Robotech, Thundercats, Akira, various other anime, the Super Mario Brothers Super show, Dragon Ball/Z, then I guess I really am hating my childhood. I think out of Modern things, short of other anime, the only US shows I've liked are Spongebob, Generator Rex, Young Justice, the Avengers, Ed, Edd, and Eddy. Maybe a few others that escape me Atm.

Besides you don't want me acting like a kid again. Things tend to catch on fire, people get hurt.

What? No Flinstones love?
