Anyone else feeling disappointed and pessimistic from what they are seeing from Mass Effect 3 so far?

I'm a huge Mass Effect fan, but it seems like they just turned it into a pure shooter with dialogue. The introduction with the omnitool is cheesy. The ending with Shepard waiving the omniblade is cheesy. The new Atlas or whatever gives me nightmarish chills of a game I despise....Halo. So does the omniblade. The premise of this game revolves around saving Earth from an alien invasion. It's clear rpg elements that are allegedly in the game are playing second fiddle by far to the shooting...almost like its thrown in just to appease. Default FemShep got a plastic redo.

I'm pretty sure the series has changed forever...and not for the good. Am I the only one who feels this way? Let's have a respectful discussion.

As long as the plot isn't as poorly written as ME2 then it should be awesome.

The series was never set in stone, it can change in whichever direction it wants. And if your reasons are cheesiness and dislike for games you are reminded of (and mind, I don't remember anything akin to the Atlas in Halo...), then I respectfully disagree. What I've seen so far is channeled marketing. It doesn't represent the game for me.

I'm not concerned about the stuff you're talking about. The combat will be good and I have no doubts the dialogues and all will also be good and I'm sure the RPG elements will be rich in the actual game after all the criticism of ME2. My problems are with the marketing. I just wish we could finally see something more than just combat in the promo material. Exploration, planet introductions, new character profiles, new planet scanning/Mako/whatever it will be. Just not combat (with Cerberus troopers especially) over and over again.

didnt you play ME2? you didnt notice this over a year ago?

Mass Effect 1 is long gone. say goodbye to ever playing a game that was ever like ME1, becasue ME2 wasnt it, and ME3 isnt it either. well maybe it is, but ive already played ME2, i dont need ME2:episode 2.

Marketing is too centered on combat, but I'm sure there is more behind (something similar happened with ME2).

You complain a lot about the omniblade...... Well anything is better than the elbow blow from ME1 and ME2

This. I hope the marketing changes, and hopefully they listened on ME2.

Skill trees are being expanded and powers evolve more than once. Weapons can be customized and upgraded with weapon mods, and our choices are to have greater impact on our individual playthroughs. I have to disagree with the OP simply because I feel bioware is keeping all the plot and such things under wraps because people complained that ME2's marketing revealed too much.

And we're basing this on what? The marketing? What happened to not believing a single crap that Bioware marketing says? These were the same people that tried the "this is the new ****" for DA:O.

Yeah, I admit Shepard's waving the omniblade was annoying but how is that going to affect the game in anyway? It's stupid, poorly-done marketing and nothing else.

I don't see how the Atlas reminds you of Halo seeing that the Warthog etc is nothing like it besides that it moves and is controlled by the player. Instead it reminds me more of MGS4 which I liked. The omni-blade is a melee weapon that looks cool. Don't like it? Don't use it and stick with pistol whipping.

Earth isn't the only planet under attack. The Reapers are extending beyond Earth as indicated by the demo and dev comments on other quests. We're not stuck in earth like in War of the Worlds; we'll be exploring the galaxy to stop the Reaper threat.

And seeing how little we've seen on the RPG elements, I love how you decided to already give a conclusion. Also what are you basing your OPINIONS on. The marketing?

As for FemShep, shut the heck up. Bioware LETS us vote for which FemShep we wanted and what do they get? Nothing but stupid whining and accusation of Bioware selling out to their own fans. How the hell does that make any sense?

1. It is not a pure shooter with dialogue, Bioware simply has not showed any story because the fans do not want spoilers.
2.RPG elements playing second fiddle? the RPG mechanics are some of the best I have seen in ME
3.I'm sorry you dont like the look of the atlas but you win some and you lose some
4.Femshep was specifically for the fans and if you dont like use your imported femshep
5.You speak as if better combat is a bad thing, if we are getting a quality ME story (which I can assure you will happen) better combat is icing on the cake.

Pretty much.

Mass Effect pre-release told us that the series revolved around the Reapers.

Mass Effect 2 pre-relase showed Shepard dying.

Let's not play this game again with Mass Effect 3.

It is being marketed as an action title, I'm hoping that's just marketing.

Is it too much to ask that I could go one day, just one day without someone on the BSN complaining about something?

Quoting for emphasis.

A good story and a good combat system are anything but mutually exclusive, and I like to think that ME3 is going to be comprised of just that (though I won't assume that it is).

Something akin to hell freezing over, I'm afraid. I'd like to reassure you, but...

you show the combat since thats safe and spoiler free to show. the fans scream that its too much of a shooter and not an RPG anymore.

they show story stuff, fans scream at them for spoilers.

whats wrong with you people? SERIOUSLY.
