Anyone else feeling disappointed and pessimistic from what they are seeing from Mass Effect 3 so far?

I'm probably treading old ground because I don't have the inclination to trudge the entirety of this thread, and if my comments are a repetition of anything you've said take it as an endorsement, but it's the marketing that has irked me without actually damaging my enthusiasm for the game itself. As far as I can see the game simply isn't being marketed at us; the followers of the franchise who will buy the game regardless of what happens between now and March.

It's the more than likely the result of focus testing that has dictated the more action-orientated direction we've seen so far. EA has made it clear that they believe Mass Effect can rake in more buyers than it already has, but for my part I simply don't see this as a slight to us or at the expense of any mechanics that constitute the essential Mass Effect experience. Of course this is the bone of contention and if anyone feels otherwise there's nothing I can say to change that. We'll just have to wait and see if EA feel Bioware's universe and everything within it is worth flaunting for those extra sales like we who are already sold believe.

EXACTLY, Bioware have to babysit a lot of spoilt children on these boards. Its a wonder that Chris Priestly and the Mods still have their sanity (although its debatable whether Chris still has his sanity :P ).

I have full faith that Bioware will pull through on ME3. After all it looks like an improved ME2 and I love ME2 possibly more than ME1.

I would just like to say that I agree with both of you.

*raises hand*

I get a feeling the the setting/universe and story are getting progresively worse.

Maybe you should wait until the game comes out and play it before jumping on the hypernegativity bandwagon.

I already seen things that mar the beauty of the universe/story, so I got grounds to be negative.

The only question is - will there be more of them. We will see I guess.;)

Funny because I have played both ME 1 and ME 2 including all the DLC for both games  and I don't see any reason to be negative.

So if it is a good shooter then it HAS to be a bad RPG? I don't see why people keep saying that. Look at Skyrim it has both and from what I have seen of Mass Effect 3 it does to.

Yeah, and Skyrim's trailer showed no RPG mechanics at all and yet people claim it to be the RPG of 2011.

Seriously. Bethesda games never were known for their engaging questlines and overall great story telling. Cornerstones of any RPG. Now they are going to introduce random questgeneration in Skyrim. How does that fit with "good RPG" ?

You're missing my point, did you learn about the random quest generator from Skyrim's trailers? No, you've learned about those things from searching the web, the same can be done for ME3, the trailers truly don't show any RPG mechanics in them but if you just google things you'll find weapon modding, skill trees and powers evolving more than once, all of these things can be found in some sort of footage, whether in videos or screenshots.

This is really just some bias against BioWare considering nobody reacted like that for the Skyrim trailer.

No, I'm not disappointed....I like the RPG elements that they're implementing and I was actually frustrated at the combat in ME1 and ME2....but more ME1 because it was awkward. The RPG elements are still there, depending on what people define "RPG" and the combat in this game feels more refined and smooth. The universe still feels big to me and the threat is still greater (even though I still hate this Cerberus angle, but I'll forgive them for it).

so, nope, I'm not.

As long as the plot isn't as poorly written as ME2 then it should be awesome.

If by that you mean it isnt as "short" as some folks considered ME2 to be then you will be disappointed.  They're shooting for it to be as long as ME2 but with "higher replayability".

As for my own "opinion" on the matter:  Im not %100 sure how I feel yet.  On one hand, Im pretty stoked because of the new combat and overall new "feel" the game is supposedly taking. (Like the fact that the engine seems more Gears'ish) Things like that.  But on the other hand, Im a little worried.  Why? For starters, they're adding a kinect option to the game.  Sure it's only for "voice commands" apparently but why not just set it up so you can use your Xbox headset instead of the kinect? Secondly, the fact that there is going to be full-blown S/S romances in ME3.

Because to me, (and Im ONLY speaking for myself) this kind of breaks continuity to a point.  It also worries me on this front because if the writers on the ME team are taking any "pointers" from the DA team, then that means there is a good chance that some, if not all, of the S/S romancable characters are going to practically be throwing themselves at my maleshep.  Some folks will say "Well that shouldnt bother you..." well you know what? It does, sorry if that offends you but it bothers me a great deal.  To which, wont "kill" the game for me as a whole, but definately reduce the ability for me to actually be "excited" about the story and characters involved.

As long as they're "sublte" with the S/S romances and that any flirting has to be initiated by Shep him/herself, then I wont have "much" of an issue with it.

The S/S stuff is a non-issue for me unless they go the same route they did with female Shepard and Jacob.

T oeach his own I guess.

I see ME2 full of plot hoels and bad deisgin decisions. From the nonsenical beginning, to human reaper-terminator, to the fact that ME2 keeps the overall story in stasis and the final choice. Bad, bad decisions.

She basicaly automaticaly starts flirting with him whenever you initiate dialog with him.  This is an area I would like to see addressed with all squadmates.  I would like to be able to have dialog and meaningful discussions with squadmates without necessarily initiating a romance.  The romance dialogs should be initiated by Shepard and it should be obvious which choice in dialog is for the romance stuff so we don't accidently initiate a romance.

I don't see how Skyrim has to do with anything but for people complaining about no lewt or exploration thats where you want to go.  All dungeons are hand crafted and the quest generator thing sounds more promising than you give it credit.  If story telling is all that needs to be a RPG than we might as well call every game in existance an RPG.

You get that flirting when you talk to him as Male shep .  If you want a Bi romance option Jacob is obviously the choice.

I havn't noticed it with dude Shep and Jacob.  Whenever I have talked to Jacob with a Male Shepard it has just seemed like two dudes talking.

Thats one of the things I liked better about DA2's dialog wheel.  You knew precisely the "tone" of what you selected was going to be (paraphrasing still blows but that's an issue Ive given up on lol) due to the icons beside each response.  If you wanted to strike/kill/initiate combat, you had the crossed-swords icon.  If you wanted to come off as particulary nice/helpful you had the Halo/Angel wings icon.  If you wanted to pursue a romance, you had the giant heart icon.  If you wanted to permanently break off any further romantic involvement with that character, you had the giant broken heart.

But as a whole, I agree completely that they need to be alot more subtle with how they deal with romances.  Epseically now since S/S LIs are being included.

Edit: Same here, it didnt come off as flirting when I talked to him as maleshep.  Just seemed like two guys talking and shooting the **** to me.

I just finished a male shep playthrough.
He leans against the table exactly like Femshep does and has that side smirk just like her.  "I'm just interested in talking for a bit"
I'm surprised no one else has said anything about it.  They didn't even bother changing for which gender.  I felt like I was romancing Jacob whenever I talked to him and there isn't even an option to romance him as Male.

I agree about the DA 2 dialog wheel but I don't think they need to start putting icons in the ME dialog wheels as long as the intentions of what we are trrying to say is obvious.  BTW it still didn't stop Anders from hitting on my male hawke so to me the core issue is still how romances are initiated.  They should be initiated by the Protaginist and not the squadmate.

That is because the rest of the dialog between Male Shepard and Jacob is normal while Female Shepard keeps acting like she wants to jump into the sack with him.

It's a little awkward but I don't think it was intentional on bioware's part so not a big deal.  Hopefuly they script male and female Shepard's body language differently in ME 3.
