Im pretty stunned at how horrible the animations are. I hope its just that they werent final because Liara walking anim was seriously unsettling to watch.

The entire "Squad Leader" trailer felt like a B tier machinima.

It kinda reminded me of the Character Reveal trailers for ME2. Remember the ones for Miranda? The gameplay animation and graphics were horrible in that trailer.

Still looks miles ahead of what we've seen so far.

Yeah I had the ending to LA Noire thrown in my face because some troll decided to spam it as the thread title of 100 threads one day in the GTA forums I was going there to talk about GTA....  Spoilers can come out of nowhere and sometimes you don't see it coming until its too late.  I'm not the type who goes "OMG THAT HAD A TINY BIT OF DIALOG ITS SPOILERS" but some people don't like cut ourselves off from the community just to avoid it.

Ugh, you have my sympathies on that. And it's absolutely ****ty when it happens. I remember my brother having KotOR spoiled for him on a random internet forum. I spent several days in mourning afterward.

LOl thats not even the worst part.
The guy made the account for the very reason to do that.
Oh and click on any of the thread titles and its hardcore gay porn all over
I'm not a homophobe or easily offended but it was not fun.
So yeah there are people out there who make it a point to ruin your day.

Mass Effect 3 looks great so far, the marketing is a little on the dodgey side i'll admit. But its better than mass effect 2 where we knew shepard could end up dead from the very first interview they gave. Right now we just know the reapers are at earth, and that you have to stop them. That is not a spoiler thats a premise.
I do think they need to focus on showing gameplay without showing spoilers, give us a sense of what some of the new planets are going to look like. hell give us news reports to build suspence, in the same vein as they did with the live action trailer. i'd love to see that.

From what i've seen so far of mass effect 3 it looks great. I dont care that we cant classify it as a pure RPG anymore. And thats not a bad thing IMHO genre's need to expand and evolve or else it becomes stagnant and it will die.
even though the occasional throwback is refreshing. but I have to say that I enjoyed the gameplay of ME2 more than that of ME1, and ME3 looks more like ME2 than 1 so i'm happy. And I dont care who disagrees with me.

The solid roleplay-adventure style of ME1 is rotting in a waste dump outside Edmonton, and the ME2's 3D-arcade gameplay is making a return, now with even more pathetic attempts to discover callofdutiness in itself. I think there is a Molier's comedy about that.

So yeah, I am feeling disappointed. Kind of.

Only thing I agree in any degree with is how the RPG elements seem to play second fiddle. But that's been apparent since the first game, and made even more obvious that it always was in the second game.

But despite this fact, I am already hooked on the story and at the very least, I want to see it to its conclusion. Also, the melee lover in me is looking forward to the heavy attacks. If I play another class beside Vanguard, it would be Soldier and I would get 100% of Shepard's kills through the heavy melee attack.

Someone also said it's being marketed as an action title. Then where are my katanas for Vanguard?

you show the combat since thats safe and spoiler free to show. the fans scream that its too much of a shooter and not an RPG anymore.

they show story stuff, fans scream at them for spoilers.

whats wrong with you people? SERIOUSLY.

What I don't like is you assume everybody felt the same way.

I loved Mass Effect 2's marketing surrounding the story, I wish I knew more for Mass Effect 3.

You realize almost all the gameplay stuff in that was from cutscenes, right?

Depends on the animation.  Adepts actually look pretty good.  engineers are not bad either.  Soldier omniblade looks silly though.  And the Sentinel makes me wonder if tech armor is going to be yellow with black stripes now.

Take away ME1's story, and it's a sub-par TPS/RPG, even by the standards at the time.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this.
What EXACTLy is it about ME1 that makes it more of an RPG than 2?
Is it the lame Inventory?  Is it filler exploration that has the same place no matter what part of the galaxy your in?
Is it each class having the same things to lvl up?
The way I see it is the RPG is there with the dialog wheel and better variety in the classes.

Hell, even with its story I think it's sub-par compared to other Bioware games. Image IPB

i dont understand it either.
apparently having to put points into a dialogue skill is something people loved too. i think the better the combat feels the more they hate it regardless. good combat means its not an RPG anymore apparently.

Topics like this make me hate internet forums. They can only turn ugly. My biggest issue is my choices from the previous games finally coming to fruition. There is nothing wrong with BioWare sharpening the gameplay to a razor's edge. I love how "shooter" is now and bad word on these forums. :?

I guess my standards are low, but aside from a few nitpicks so far (Sentinel heavy melee, etc) I'm fairly pumped for ME3. I really don't even like Bioware much, but the ME series has proven to be a quirky mishmash of gameplay elements that somehow worked well enough to entertain me.

Of course, I also don't feel the need to hate on <popular game> in a childishly exaggerated fashion to demonstrate my maturity and refined taste in video games either.

Can't I go one day on here without the lone voice asking for common sense........

Also OP i think we'll find a perfect balance between ME1 and M2 in ME3. You know what they say 1+2=3

I'm so glad I'm not the only one!  As much as I love the Mass Effect series as a whole the only reason I still play the first one is because I cannot bring myself to start a new game of 2 without using the save import.

Ha. True. But it's their own universe, so I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

ME3? From what I've seen of it, I will definitely enjoy it for quite some time.

I hate saying more of an RPG, because the term RPG is so subjective.  But the character customization, the weapon and armor customization for yourself and you squad mate was a lot deeper to me in ME1.  I like as much customization as possible, but once again, customization does not an RPG make, but I do count it as one of the major things I would like to have in an RPG.

It dosent really look that much different from the first two games. So far it looks like Mass effect 2 with Mass Effect 1 weapon mods, melee attacks, and slightly improved graphics. That's it, really.

If weapon mods were needed I'd agree with you but I can totally ignore everything I pick up and turn it into medigel and I wouldn't notice a difference.

I never fully understood this. If anything, I thought the omniblade more closely resembled the protoss zealot class.

Neither is very complimentary ;)

To me it looks like a blade, but a glowing, holographic blade.  Which is ridiculous.  I know it's not supposed to be a hologram.  But it still looks like one.  That's not good.

well......the tech armour, the drone and the omni tool all look holographic but they aren't. I just don't see how the imagination can't extend to a melee weapon.

I mean no disrespect but it's complaining for complainings sake

Definitely not the only one. Mass Effect was a great story/setting wrapped up in (what I consider)  a sub-optimal gameplay set up. Between exploration, the inventory, and ranks like 1% pistol damage, ME requires the most effort for me to play through.

You don't notice a difference from synthetic ammo, to organic ammo, to shield bypass ammo, or mods that made your gun overheat less quickly?  You didn't really need them in ME2, since the missions were shorter and you didn't meet multiple types of enemies, but there was definitely a difference in ME1.

Also having armor mods that restored health, or kept you from getting poisoned on those rachni, or thorian creeper areas.  I don't see how you can say it made no difference.
