Right, has anyone else had this really frustrating problem...?

You bump into some creatures, let's say bandits, and you attack. You get placed in an instance where you're at the start, and the monsters come towards you. I just clicked on my spell caster to buff the party, because I realised that after several times, even if I command the party to attack, or send my main guy in to attack, the rest of the party take 5+ seconds to react and follow and attack.

So we're all standing at the beginning, just watching the monsters come towards us while my spellcaster was casting haste on himself (which would have buffed the party just standing together). However, it doesn't cast, and the spell doesn't complete! Tried this a few times, it seems that you can actually do NOTHING in the first few seconds of the instance. Why is this?

Alright, after puzzling over this a few minutes, I think I know what's happening. When you start the encounter, your party is not in attack mode. Type VW, then drag the icon for E "attack" to your quickbar. When you start an encounter, hit space first, then hit the VWE command on your quickbar, THEN give your characters orders, including spell casting. If they're in peaceful mode, they will forget their order when you switch to controlling a new character.

Note that you can gain a couple seconds of additional buffing if you Bluff or Intimidate the enemy on the Overland Map before the encounter starts.
