@Greensoda: I take it you're a redhead Shep fan too?

Yeah...though only because of the green eyes. *If* I could choose for myself I'd prefer black hair with brown eyes...but ehh the whole thing isn't that important to me anyways.

I'll probably just create my own FemShep again.

This whole episode is just ridiculous now.  The first vote the blonde femShep won by 10's of thousands of votes.  It was one of the more lopsided victorys I've ever seen in a poll on the internet where reaching a consensus on anything is practically unheard of and clearcut winners are non-existant.

But, get a handful of people who share the same prejudices and put truth in the same sweeping generalizations and get them to whine and cry about something for 50 pages on the BSN and you can in fact override the votes of 30,000+ people.

No matter what the moderators tell you about how the forums are a small and insignifcant sample of the gaming population as a whole this is as clear an example as you'll ever see of how a small group of that "insignificant sample" can through sheer force of whining change the direction of game development mid stride and force a change on something as significant as the iconic image for a studio's flagship game.

Remember this lesson well BSN, no matter how small your issue is or how sweeping your misguided generalizations are or how grossly prejudiced your views are just keep whining and complaining about it and eventually Bioware will change whatever it is to suit you.

I suppose in the end I only have myself to blame for my disappointment.  I let myself get excited at the prospect of getting a default femShep that I actually liked even though I knew folks would complain about it.  I should have known better than to expect BW to hold their ground and not cave in to the ridiculous whining about bimbos and barbies.

I had always assumed that the "Canon" Femshep would have been the in-game default redhead appearance.

It might also have to do with the comments on facebook of those who actually voted. If it were just a handful of insignificant whiners who got the Bioware folks to make a second poll, BlondeShep would still be winning by an absolute landslide. Instead, BlondeShep is in last place. So, maybe the folks who voted for hairstyle alone skewed the original vote (instead of people voting for the blonde aspect).

I believe this is the case as well. There were a lot of comments about voting for the hair style only. If the hair color were the grasping factor overall, I don’t see why it would be losing so grossly now. Logic, ftw!

You guys realize that topics like this one will be the reason why Bioware will never let us decide on anything ever again after this? (Which is probably for the better)

^ This is true. I recall seeing a lot comments about how they liked the hairstyle, but would have preferred a different color in the original poll. Personally, I didn't care. I thought they all sucked Posted Image

Well strictly speaking BW distorts the public vote with this 2nd poll...because they didn't announce there would be a 2nd poll for hair color in the first place, only the ppl who choose blonde shep in the first poll for the hair*style* got their votes counted.

If you picked FemShep #5 from the first poll because she was blonde (but perhaps liked another hairstyle better) BW just sc**wed you out of your vote.

Personally I don't mind much (though probably only because the vote is going my way *g*)

Yeah I've been saying this, but apparently I should just stfu and beat it, because whether or not you have a point doesn't matter. Having empathy for others is apparently not hip anymore. Rather we're all labelled whiners, and told to "deal with it" unregardless of what WE support to begin with, unregardless of whether WE ever even spoke a negative word to the people that were against the blonde before the second vote started.

What does it matter?

The instant most people start a new file they do a custom shepard.

So what does it matter what picture is on the box art?

After this poll yes the more popular look will be more narrowed and universal among everyone for marketing.  However, that doesn't pardon the way this was handled by Bioware (i'm usually the type of person that defends them all the time, because they're usually in the right logically).  I was thinking about how these polls were handled and to get it through by head I tried to apply it to a real life beauty pageant and it came down to something like this:

-An organization announces a Miss Universe at a beauty pageant.
-There are to be 6 candidates and throughout the event, there will be voting.
-They announce that whoever comes out on top, will be the new Miss Universe
-Most of the time we see them from a far, but there's a big hd TV over the stage so everyone can see the contestants.

-By a sweeping victory, a blonde contestant is voted to be the most beautiful throughout the event.
-Talk begins to sweep the audience about things like "Wasn't it a red haired girl who won last year? I don't understand why a blonde is winning and why the new red hair girl is in 5th place" or "don't you think the blonde looks like a bimbo with that hair?" or "I like the blonde girl the best, but she would look great with red hair"
-Event ends and obviously the Blonde contestant wins, is crowned Miss Universe and begins her duties in a week or so.  There's a song, a celebration, everyone goes home.
-The organization running the event opens the complaint box and finds is overflowed with the complaints that were circling in the vast crowd.

-The organization then annouces that there will be an exiting announcement at the Q&A Press Conference with the new Miss Universe tomorrow.
-Press and hardcore fans find that it's no longer a Q&A, but a nother event parading the new contestant with different wigs, allowing people to vote for the hair the new contestant will have while she tours the... universe as the New Miss Universe.
-As the event goes on we only get views from the seats and the big screen TV is no longer on.
-By the end, everyone has voted for Miss Universe's last wig/dyed red hair colour and now Miss Universe has to dye her hair while she tours.  Some people also noticed though something else was different, but couldn't see it.
-Miss Universe appears on a stop and everyone is shocked to see that she has painted on freckles, is wear green coloured eye contacts and has had her mole removed, looking very much like 5th place contestant from original event now.
-The organization gets complaints and...
-They annouce a new poll for freckles/no freckles and green contacts or natural blue eyes?

Sounds rediculous doesn't it?  It is and this whole thing hasn't been handled well.

No strawberry blonde? Oh well.  (If only the blondey this time round had a tougher aged face, I'd vote for it) Stickin with reddy and brunette then.

In any case, headcanon: Blonde shep, but dyes her hair red.

Actually, I wouldn't equate the two at all. A rl Beauty Pagent would have set rules that the human participants would have agreed to before hand.

This was an informal Facebook Poll. Honestly, we don't even know if the second round was prompted by complaints. It could have always been intended.

Christ on a ******. It's not that big of a deal.

I would say the first poll was pretty clear in it's intentions.  The first poll we voted on clearly stated "Like the FemShep YOU WANT IN THE GAME".  It did not say "hey **** in the comment section about some aspects and we will do a do over for you".

So yeah I would say Bioware's original intention was to have 1 poll and just because a few complained we got saddled with another poll where emphasis was put on the Ginger one, the blonde vote was split and the poll started after a huge negative campaign against blonde option from the media.

Yeah, I brought that up earlier. Why throw extra attention to the Redhead by changing things up a little and not slightly alter the others?

There's actually a funny story behind that, you know. Here's some background:

There was a vote on twitter before any posters came up; a vote for FemShep's preferred coloring. Red hair and green eyes (which I voted for when I had to choose between my own hair color and what I thought would suit FemShep the best) WON THAT POLL. Some people mentioned freckles, too. So that's where they came from, those green eyes and freckles, and Ginger's coloring won first, before Blondie was even conceived.

The snag with blonde fans' whole "Bioware caved", "the first poll should've been the determining factor" running gag is that the first poll wasn't the first poll.

From David Silverman's Twitter: (Thanks, JamieCOTC) OK, so for #FemShep, the Red Hair votes continue to flood overwhelmingly. As for eyes, hearing a lot of green with some blue. Act now!

Red won. Then it was thrown out because the posters were from far away and the ONLY redhead didn't even look like one. She had a tight, severe hairstyle that could've just as easily been brown, not red. Can you blame us for feeling slighted? We asked the same questions you did--"What, didn't *our* vote matter? Why is this happening? Did somebody do this on purpose because they preferred something other than our choice?" We were told that what we voted for contributed to their thinking about the posters or something like that. Nobody loved it, but what could we say?

You can talk about being screwed over, but Ginger fans were screwed over before Blondie fans, and all any of us asked for was the opportunity to re-vote for what actually won in the first place. If we hadn't been the majority, Ginger wouldn't have such a clear lead now. This is what the fans want, it's as simple as that--it's not about blonde hate or brunette hate or anything else. It's not because of a lot of people making new fake accounts, or red hair wouldn't have had a landslide on Twitter also. (I assume no one is stupid enough to say, "The votes on Twitter and facebook for redheads were mostly fake double-votes, but the votes for #5 were mostly unique!!!")

So if blonde fans still don't like this and think it's unfair, rest in the knowledge that Bioware is only correcting their first error--and before a single person raised their voice to complain about #5, red hair and green eyes were the fan choice already. So no, this didn't come out of nowhere because of sudden whining after #5 came out on top, and no, it's not just blonde fans who lost what they wanted because of some factor beyond their control. We were screwed, then you were screwed--now you know how it feels, but since even uniting the blonde vote doesn't come close to the second runner up's score, it's fairly obvious which group was right about what the fan base really prefers.

Sorry for those who wanted a blonde or another face--honestly, I preferred another face, too--but to those complaining that this third vote is somehow unfair to blonde fans, it's no more unfair than the first poll being thrown out was to the redhead-fan majority.

Me, too, but there should've been a green-haired Shepdude as well! :D I voted for the Gingerbread man, though Pink was pretty tempting too; you?

Well by making a poorly executed poll
in the first place, they made sure the only femshep face that was worth a
damn (#3) wasn't chosen, because of the hairstyle. #3 was, is and will
forever be superior to any and all femsheps and malesheps ever.

I actually agree with you there; I loved her best, and I would play as her in a heartbeat. Too bad her hair looked so primly kept; I voted for her, but in all honesty I can't imagine FemShep looking so proper. I wish they'd thought better of those tight styles; most FemSheps I've seen don't use them because they're very hard to pull off.

Being screwed over before or after matters little, because in the end the bottom line is we all got screwed over.
Conclusion already was that whichever one you preffed mattered little towards the conclusion that this was handled severely bad.
Empathy is something sorely lacking ALLROUND, and personally this is what's pissing me off as much about this whole ordeal.

Having said that I'm still very freaking happy femshep is getting asmuch attention, if the community as a whole would just.. chill the hell out and be considerate a tiny bit more then this didn't have to turn into such a bloodbath tbh.
I feel dirty just reading some of the things people say to eachother.

I am well aware of the twiiter feedback, it was NOT a poll in the sense that facebook is a poll.  It was a request for feedback from people and as we have seen people that prefer red hair are very very vocal  when it comes to these kind of things (they ****ed enough to get a second poll). Tell me did David Silverman receive 75,000 tweets regarding the look of femshep ?  No he didn't he got a small sample size and obviously felt it needed to be brought to the attention of a wider audience.

The first poll on facebook was very clear, we got to choose which one we wanted in the game.  Then after a huge negative campaign against the blonde femshep and some seriously nasty crap from various users on facebook and here they successful got Bioware to do a do over because they didn't like the fact "blondie" as you call her won.

Now we have a second poll where the blonde vote is split, the ginger one has had extra attention applied to her giving her a unique look over the other 3 and it comes on the back of a huge anti-blonde campaign.  Hell where are the people that complained that "face book isn't legitimate" and "people shouldn't be allowed to vote for femshep on facebook" people now ?  All of a sudden because red hair is winning the facebook poll is legitimate again is it ?

Bioware has completely screwed up the promotion of femshep already.  As an avid femshep fan I actually want them to go back to ignoring her, because if this is the best Bioware can do then it just isn't worth it.

I just hope Bioware comes to their senses and cancels this last poll.

I've bought every Bioware game since Baldurs Gate, and I've never felt let down by them until now. Hell I even loved DA2 despite all the complaints.
