Yeah, I know, a topic done to death. I'm just going to present my proposal and see if anyone can come up with a reason that I haven't thought of not to do it or one I haven't heard yet.

Here goes. Commander Shepard has two teammates at all times, barring any solo missions Bioware may decide to put in (which they might if Arrival is any indication).

That means that Commander Shepard has two possible teammates that could be controlled by a local, I repeat Local, friend. Building in online support would take way too much effort for a simple change and is not worth it. Hear that? No online support.

So, given that both the Xbox and PS3 both support local Co-op and they both support First and Second player, why not make Commander Shepard First player, and allow the Second player to choose a squadmate?

Notice I left out PC gamers. That's because as a demographic, they are less likely to possess the necessary space to allow for two players. They also often lack the controllers necessary to utilize this system. They often lack the expertise with the controller to utilize this system. And, above all, developing Co-op for a PC game is much harder than doing it for consoles. Drivers, peripherals, console commands, and all sorts of other things stand in the way and make it much harder.

Back to co-op. All dialog options would be controlled by First player while second player sits idle. Given enough time, the devs could even remove the splitscreen during conversations so that the whole screen was taken up by the Commander talking.

The commander's commands would be directed at only the AI squadmate, leaving the Second player to do as they wish.

Now, these are the things I see getting in the way. First, conversations and exploration aboard the Normandy.

Second, development time.

Third, Deaths.

Aside from development time, I don't consider the other two to be of true consequence. I can already think of two things that could fix those things, one of which has been done already in the Unreal Engine.

If you disagree with any form of multiplayer on principle, I don't care. Your principles are not my principles and there is no way you can force them on me.

PS: If I seem a bit rude, just know I've been up all night getting ready for college and am a little short tempered.

So console players are allowed but PC players are forced to be left out?...

I'm not sure if my buddy would like sitting there while I take up all the spotlight in conversations and cutscenes. If it wasn't so heavily focused on the first player, I wouldn't mind it.

I agree. I wouldn't mind some co-op in ME3.

I would mind Co-op in ME3, fan boys and pubescant teenagers on xbox 360s use it. I'm a pc gamer and we play alone, with hand built machines and serious resolution screens.

I won't use it. Go on then charge me less. ha ha!

Because introducing multiplayer in the last game of a trilogy is a horrible idea.

If it wasn't developed from the beginning to be in Mass Effect 3 then it shouldn't be in at all. Time spent on multiplayer is time spent away from single player.

Other than that:

I wouldn't mind a multiplayer ME game in the future, but I wouldn't want multiplayer in ME3.

Wouldn't they have to rework some of the powers (and thus mess with the game play system) for this to work? For example, how could time slow down for just one player?

No. I think ME3 should stay as a single player forever. Now, if the Co-op missions are away from the main action of the story, i.e. not direct action with Shepard, then we're talking about something that could spark my interest.

That'd require another empty-paper character like Shepard

Why...I've played Portal 2 on the PC, so I don't see why we would be excluded. Side-by-side gameplay seems like an unnecessary restriction. That aside, I'm 99% sure the only thing this thread's going to get is invite more illogical arguments against multi-player...

*scrolls up*

Yep, more illogical arguments. I don't have an urge to play any ME3 multi-player or co-op, but I don't believe that it would be the end of the world either if it were implemented. Single-player and multi-player can be done well in the same game without a loss of quality (though it would take effort of course).

Because Soldier and Infiltrator Shepard can slow down time. Those sorts of powers don't work well in co-op.

Even 5 minutes spent on Co-op is 5 minutes not spent on making the single player game even better. And ME3 already has far too many things to try to fit in its development schedule.

If you really want co-op that badly, play the Old Republic when it comes out.

No thanks. Not every game needs to be turned into a co-op or multiplayer, and why on earth would BW add that now? It defies logic.

And BTW, OP, you acknowledge that this topic has been done to death. Why did you feel the need to open yet another thread on it?

I give up.

No co op considering the fact that it'll more then likely be like fables version of it. You have two sheps though everyone ignores the fact player 2 is even there and all questions or comments are forever voiced to player 1 and when you find things both sheps get the prize. No thanks if you need help playing ME you're in the wrong game.
