Judgemental, hyperbolic elitism on the BSN?  Say it ain't so!

It's a shame we didn't get Christopher Lennertz and/or the duo that did Kasumi/Arrival for ME3.

Then again, that would be highly unlikely after they dumped Wall to get Mansell... at least, that's I assume they did.

Kasumi and Arrival had great music(especially the latter).

To be honest, ME1 and 2's OSTs were great in parts and really underwhelming in parts. I found the best music in ME2 to be in the DLCs, and those weren't even done by the main composer of ME1 and 2.

I think Mansell should bring some pretty interesting music to the table.

The ME2 soundtrack was a disaster. It's the kind of music that's all about being 'epic', but ends up sounding really cheesy and lame (which is also why the fact that Clint M. is working on the 3rd one makes me sad). I think it's safe to say, that if you like the ME2 soundtrack more than 1, you're a bad person.

Mass Effect 1's soundtrack had emotions and personality, and the 2nd one completely lost that.

This is BSN!

*kicks down to unending well of rage*

Seriously? If I like ME2 OST more than ME1 OST I am, by default, a bad person? That's like assuming that BSN is full of whiners and selfish, unreasonable people.

Wait...

ME OST: It brings a soothing effect, suits the big locations in ME
ME2 OST: Fast paced and more modern, better suited for the rather compact corridor shooting in the game. While I like ME OST more, the Suicide Mission is still my ME series OST favorite.
Edit: Nope. Vigil is my favorite. Sorry SM!

All I know is ME2 lost the magic and epicness that made ME1 feel like an experience and not just another game.

Quoted for the truth. ME1's soundtrack had that "epic" sense of scale about it. Not really sure how to explain it, but it just did. Also, every song was relevent to where you were.

Free beer for you. Out of the 60 songs of ME1, I only liked 10 of them.

Currently listening to Human Revolution's soundtrack and it makes me miss ME1's.

So glad I have ME1's and ME2's on my iTunes.

Maybe, but there are certain tracks that I would like to erase forever simply because they are associated with the reusable labs and evil peaks of doom.

*the article is describing the vibe and composition of Deus Ex's soundtrack*

"The UNATCO Theme is so terrific that I wish it played every time I entered my apartment."

-snip-

^_^ Ha, I felt the same way soo many times. Definitely one of the most memorable themes in DE and for me, in games in general.

As for the Mass Effect's music, I guess I prefer ME 1's non-combat and exploration music over ME2's. It was not only more unique but also captured the levels' atmosphere much better - whether it was densely populated high tech Citadel, anxiety inducing Feros or cold and somewhat mysterious Noveria, I really felt the vibe of the world and was able to relate to it easily. In Mass Effect 2, not so much... But I guess it is also a result of absence of distinctive and memorable themes for hub worlds such as Illium or Omega.

When it comes to combat music however, I prefer ME 2's music. I think it's more monumental, colorful, complex and most importantly, it emphasizes the dramatic and pressure situations much better. The best example is combat theme in Tali's loyalty mission which has several distinctive variants and game switches for faster and and more and more intense ones as the player progresses. I don't remeber so well executed graduation in ME 1 for example.

So my ideal preference would be a hybrid of ME 1's non-combat and ME 2's combat music...

Not to mention the Afterlife music was stolen from ssx.

EDIT: or was it the dark star music from ssx?

Not stolen, but yeah, that's where its from. EA must've suggested it or something. Not a bad thing, just a little side note.

Anyway, DXHR soundtrack-

MY GOD. ITS SSOOOOOOOO GOOD.

Anbody else hope that Mansell will draw inspiration from ME's classic sci-fi samples rather than ME2's cinematic themes?

Watch Moon and you'll know what the music in ME3 will be like (hint: absolutely stellar) I'm not worried in a bit. Mansell's amazing!

nice pun :o :P

on the subject of music it will be good. I liked both the soundtrack of ME1 and ME2 and both fit their respective game. ME1's story was more akin to a bladerunner-esque story and the music fit. ME2 had more of a Star Wars or other heavy character driven story and had music to match it.

I've always found it odd how people just want a type of music in a game when it wouldn't fit there. such as some heavy punk or metal to go with a game thats more stealthy (has a slight low toned edgyness to it to help set up for tension) music or similar. you can't just go pasting what was previously done in a game that evovled from  a detective-ish style story into a "we gotta move to stop this" action styled story and expect it to fit.

yea I know it's not stolen after all SSX is a EA title but still I'm not really a fan of recycled music.

I'm pretty sure the downstairs Afterlife track ("Lo-fi Epic") never actually got used in SSX, but rather was a song submitted for it that got cut.
