the most memorable music from ME1 is the title music and the credits music. which isnt actually in the damn game.

ME2 however had a fantastic soundtrack overall, ima go with that

The title music is the track "Vigil", and it's in the game on Illos.

Was referring to the Faunts track.

The music in the ME2 DLC's is the best imho. I still have the Overlord theme on my MP3 and it still gets me going whenever it comes' on. From the main games though the music from ME1 is better than that of ME2, overall. ME1 music has a certain something that makes it feel more unique and superior in comparison to that of main ME2. I can't put my finger on it exactly but it just feels more .............sci-fi.

Oops, I'm sorry! It is a shame that they didn't create an "orchestral" version of M4 Part II to go into the game.

Never really considered it. OP makes an excellent point. The music on Therum (I think it was Therum) that played as I was killing Geth made that damn mission.

You mean this track?

Easily my favorite combat theme in all of the Mass Effect games.

Oh baby.

Oh my... somebody hold me! Ha! I have a savegame of that mission just to hear this song :D and Virmire Battle :D

Both soundtracks have their qualities. Overall ME1 is better, but ME2 has suicide mission. And a whole bunch of others.

ME1: Better concept

ME2: Better execution

Hell, come to think of it that applies to a lot more than just the soundtrack.

I can agree with that. I listen to both soundtracks constantly and appreciate them both for totally different reasons. The DLC soundtracks for ME2 rank up there with my favourite ME1 tracks. I have very little to worry about regarding ME3's soundtrack and I hope it has some surprises, it's kind of fun having each soundtrack be a bit different yet still suiting the mood of the series.

I can honestly say that a certain period of approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds during Arrival had more emotional impact for me than the vast majority of time I spent playing Mass Effect 2. The soundtrack being the primary contributor to this (followed closely by the visuals and sound for the SR2...)

**Spoiler for those who haven't played the DLC**

Gives me goosebumps almost every time.

I don't worry about the music of ME3. I thought both, the ME1 and ME2 OSTs were brilliant in their own right, for ME2 it only got better and better with each DLC and Clint Mansell is a great composer as well. A great deal would have to go wrong to screw up on that front so I am sure we'll end up with a really good OST.

Off topic but still on the OP: While I love what I have heard so far of the Deus Ex HR soundtrack, I cannot post into a topic that started with this game today without yelling against the ****ing UK region lock and having to pay ****ing $90 for the Australian version!!!
Sorry, had to get that out of my system,. Carry on.

DXHR- Dude, I feel for you. There's people who preordered over a year ago only to find out a week from release that region locks are in effect.

Glad I'm on 360 and preordered the Gamestop US version.

Anbody else hope that Mansell will draw inspiration from ME's classic sci-fi samples rather than ME2's cinematic themes?

Watch Moon and you'll know what the music in ME3 will be like (hint: absolutely stellar) I'm not worried in a bit. Mansell's amazing!

He is amazing. Favourite sci-fi film since 2001. :D

And this small part, is a bit of music, but it clearly shows the magic of Mass Effect.

This part (it starts at 2:00, more precisely at 2:05, when sovereign approachs to the citadel tower).

You know.. another thing to consider is not just the music but when the music plays in the game. Some tracks really pull you when you have the right visuals to go with them (and some are more powerful when you can actually hear them properly, like the Arrival tracks, when you're not in the game).

The music at the start of ME1 when Shepard is seen walking aboard the Normandy for the first time and that first glimpse of the Citadel.. wouldn't be nearly as wesome if it wasn't so appropriate for those scenes. It really pulls you in, similarily the ending music really makes you feel like you've achieved something great and has a real, solid "conclusion" feel to it (while still leaving the door open for more adventures to come later in ME2). And then there's all the magical moments in between.

One thing I do appreciate about the ME2 tracks were the character-specific theme tracks, those were utilised well on the recruitment/loyalty missions and show the different layers to each of our squad-mates.

Every single word is true. I was not particularly griefed when I heard the composer got changed for ME3. Clearly, Wall tried to experiment just as writers did with the story focus. Result was that he made a whole bunch of 6 minute long tracks that I did not even notice in the game. I wonder why. The orchestral music is so forgettable, I don't know if it is even used during levels. Wall completely dropped any central electronic tunes from his music and fell for the "classical music" crap, such that now there are scores of instruments playing at once. What a mess. Really, anything I could remotely connect with the game were just "The Illusive Man", "Lazarus project", "The Normandy Reborn" and the tracks from the endgame ("Suicide Mission", ...). All being short tracks with central theme. I wondered at everything else: Is this the right soundtrack? This must be some other game's music.

So I heard Mansell's work on youtube and was quite amazed. But as I see it, he will simply do a few more Suicide mission type tracks and the rest will be just a bunch of long pretentious orchestral music with no emotional connection to the situation. I want back the likes of "Mass Effect theme", "Spectre induction", "Vigil", "From the Wreckage", "Sovereign's theme", "Uncharted worlds", "The Citadel" and "The Presidium".

Agreed 100%

I was glad to hear Mansell was coming on board because I hope he could steer the soundtrack back on track.

The opening tune on the load screen menu is as iconic as anything I've ever heard.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely adore the orchestral music; it just didn't always mesh effectively between games. The music in the first game was a big player in determining the initial atmosphere and that was undermined very slightly in ME2. I still loved it, I just thought it just made the experience feel a little less sci-fi oriented.

If you asked me to choose between the two soundtracks on individual merit though, I'd actually prefer ME2's. The "Suicide Mission" track is a remarkable piece of work in its own right.

The Illusive Man's soundtrack blew my mind, I'm surprised there is so much discontent with ME2's soundtrack.

However I am worried about ME3's; who is this Clint Mansell, and where is Jack Wall?

The keyboard and violen work is what I love about Mass Effect 2. The trumpets and drums form Mass Effect were a little dull imo.
