I reckon Carriers will be important in stopping the Reapers.

As for the Thanix cannons I'm not so sure, I suppose the technology could be fitted onto a few ships but I don't think they would have time to mass produce them or anything...

EDIT: On the other hand though I suppose fighting the Reapers would be such a big deal that maybe you could try and start a mass upgrading for Alliance/other races ships. Cause Mass Effect 2 doesn't span a hugely long time and Garrus clearly fitted them onto the Normandy during the time of ME 2 without trouble

Dont' forget - Tahnix cannons mounted on fighters won't have the punch of the big ones.

Thanix cannon on Normandy gave it the firepower of a cruiser. And we all seen that cruiser-level firepower did little to Sovy.

i think every ship in the entire alliance fleet with every ship in the whole galaxy will be there, i want loads of big ass ship combat in this.

maybe a bit were you control the cgi ship battle by talking commands to both joker and relaying commands to the alliance fleet. so you could have a few options in the cgi ship battles like focus on that big thing or protect that guy or let him die and more importantly as the battle for earth reaches its climax and a big fleet battle to end all fleet battle is underway in earth orbit a choice to sacrifice earth and everything on it so you can pull out the whole fleet intact and beat the reapers in another place.

That's part of gameplay convenience for you.

How he hell did Garuss get the plans? Never explained.

How the hell does one upgrade the armor plating of a warship without stopping ia drydock?
Don't mass drivers on starships usually take up most of it's length? Wouldn't you have to rip the ship open to replace them wiht the Thanix? Why are the guns on the Normandy so short?

In other words...jsut because it happened in a game, you shouldn't take it leterally.

Simple question.

Anyone else curious to see the SA field these unique ships in space combat scenes for ME3?

The SA would be incompetent for not using these space aircraft carriers.

Garrus is a good Cerberus blood brother for giving them the Thanix schematics.

The Systems Alliance should equip a fleet of vorcha with thanix. They'd be unstoppable.

While I agree that carriers w/ thanix armed fighters will likely be more effective against Reapers than main-line vessels, they probably will not be a cure-all. Note that the Reapers do have smaller versions of the Thanix than the heavy-duty leg mounted ones. I am of course referring to the Reaper that takes out 2 Kodiak style shuttles in the trailer. This does not negate the practicality of fighter swarms b/c the Reapers apparently have limited numbers of these fast-recharge weapons, but the Reapers are not defenseless.

If you watch the Shepard/Anderson demo video you also will see an Oculus taking out a shuttle. Swarms of them released from just one reaper can could probably raise all sorts of havoc with unshielded vehicles.

I think it was an Alliance fighter, but the point still stands. I was about to post this observation too, but I wanted to check first if someone hadn't come up with it already. A squadron of Oculi could hinder the advantage the fighters and interceptors have against Reapers. The Reapers are not stupid, they know little bugs that they can't target with their cumbersome main guns could take them down, hence they swarm squadrons of Oculi out of their hangar bay(s), wherever that/those area(s) might be in the cuttlefish form.

Hell I'll be happy if we just finally get to see a GARDIAN system in action.

Apparently Shep & Co forgot all about that system when they were surrounded by Oculus drones.

Don't forget that the Reapers has the Oculus, their counterpart to the fighters.

I think every kind of ship will be represented in the last game.

It's a galactic war and for me, it makes sense to show them all this time.

Yeah the whole fighter thing is sort of nullified by the Occulus. I would imagine at least some of the large Reapers carry hundreds of the things, and it would be tough for fighters to get through that screen.

There better be some serious space battles though.

the oculus flew circles around the SR-2 which is the fastest ship in the galaxy and that was just a few of them now imagine whole swarms of them and lets not forget that the reapers only need to fire once to destroy a ship.

We still don't know if any large component of the Alliance fleet will survive the initial attack.

It might be that you have to have an entirely alien fleet to win... sad times.

There's a small fraction of news (running below one of the announcers) in the Invasion trailer that says something like this: Alliance fleet retreated at FTL speeds.

I think Hackett and co. realized that they would lose their whole military strength along with Earth if they didn't flee. They made the right call.

Carriers have always been my favorite style of ship. From the Imperial star destroyers, to the the custom ships in MOO, I always went with the ships that used fighters. Its just my thing.

It would be cool to finaly get to see them. And also some alien fleet carriers as they are smart and resourcefull enough to want to match the Alliance when it comes to this new weapon. Unless the humans are so marysueish that only they realises how practical carriers are, wich would be boring. Good old "humans are special" trope.

Calm down anithuman. The codex says humans were first to field them, not the only race to do so.

Given that carriers are apparently completely untried in serious warfare, they might turn out to be a bunch of expensive white elephants.

Why is it "marysueish" for humans to be the only ones who know about carriers,Turians get to make the most amount of dreadnaughts,so they are kind of stuck in the whole 'Battleships are the best" kind of mindset, the other 2 council races just let the turians do their fighting anyway.

Humans were the first to field carriers, but it is implied that the other nations have adopted the design concept as well. Their fleets, however, are not as heavily carrier-based as Humanity's, and dreadnaughts remain the fulcrum of fleet actions.

You do have to remember that by adopting the Carrier-class the other races are +1'ing humans, and turians may be very proud on that. Maybe they shrug it off as useless. But we'll see when the game comes out! I may be wrong.

Assuming the Vorcha don't eat the cannons or drop them.

Alliance carriers are named after great leaders, artists, and intellectuals from human history.

I want to see:

SSV Mohatma Ghandi

SSV Igor Stravinsky

SSV Nicola Tesla

and most importantly,

SSV Isaac Newton, aka the Deadliest Ship In Space.

Yes please, alliance carriers and new, bigger warships.
