I was just wondering, I made both my male and female shepard really attractive and I 've played ME several times with them. There's this passion that flows through me when I am my shepard, and I want them to have relationships with their crew, but I wonder if my shepard were just butt ugly, would I still have the same feelings for them? Would I care if my shepard died, or would I care about how he/she treats the crew, and has relationships? I think not, but I'm going to try and make the ugliest shep. possible just to see if the feelings and my choices are the same.Posted Image

I tried but gave up at roughly horizon cause I wanted to make a renegade femshep.

I've made ugly Sheps. The problem was that they were so comically ugly, I couldn't take them seriously.

That was my whole problem trying to play as Femshep. I always play Sheploo, thats just fine for me. But I could never connect with my custom femshep because I could not make her the way I wanted (she always looked ugly to me) until recently that is... Yeah I am pretty shallow when it comes to stuff like this.

See, my very first Shep was ugly as all hell. But I liked her anyway, and I played her as a very strong, serious woman. Subsequent Shepards have not suffered at all due to their looks (save for one, but that was on purpose and with friends), but I wanted something I could show off on the BSN, so... yeah.

I've also had a very pretty Shep that pissed me off because she was too... typically pretty, so I f*cked up her face a little to make her both unique and human.

I never got the whole " make an imperfect/ ugly character because it's more real" idea. There's nothing wrong with saving the galaxy and looking damn fine doing it.

Well, there's different kinds of damn fine.  I accidentally made the boring kind and it pissed me off because there was nothing exciting about her.  No especially striking or unique features.  Nothing to set her apart from the hordes of St. Pauli Girl look-alikes.

In short, she didn't feel like "my" Shepard.

Also, Hollywood is tiresome.

Hollywood is only tiresome when they do it wrong. Which happens to be a lot. When they get it right it's awesome.
I think of Mass Effect as kind of like a movie. Bioware did it so right...heres hoping they don't mess it up.

By the way All of those Renegade Sheps look fantastic. I would not call them ugly. Just bad ass mother f*ckers you wouldn't want to mess with Posted Image.

Just so you know, I have no disrespect at all to those who like playing with "ugly/ less than perfect Shepards" I just like playing with good looking ones.

Different strokes for different folks...it's all good. Its what makes games like Mass Effect awesome, there's something for everybody.

I like to make a reasonably appealing face, but give it a few flaws, like a sharp chin, a pointed or long nose, low cheekbones, rounded cheeks, somewhat wide jaw on a female... "less than perfect" can be attractive but still head off the "annoyingly perfect typical boring standard of beauty" problem. All my favorite Shepards are classically attractive in ways, but with noticeable flaws. It actually makes me like them *more*, because they remind me of real faces I've seen instead of supermodel posters.

...you *have* heard of Ugly Shepard though, haven't you? Because Ugly Shepard rocks. My Shepard would hug Ugly Shepard in sad commiseration.

Well, that one batarian will still tell you "strippers' quarters are to the right" or whatever it is he says.

I always find it kind of amusing how much game developers are convinced that gamers will always make their femPCs as gorgeous as possible. Gender-specific lines are always stuff like "I bet the pretty one is the leader" etc etc. Given how much I often go out of my way to make femPCs who aren't at all conventionally attractive -- prominent noses, wicked scars, near-"masculine" jaws -- I spend a lot of time laughing at my computer.

Yes, she is modded. I figured ouy how to use Ash's facial textures using Gibbed. I also changed the color of her eyes and hair. I think she'll be staying with me for the time being...no offense.

Someone posted on a different forum how a good looking character really depends on great textures...they were right.

I like ugly Shepards. There's a certain freedom to the plays I have with bizarre looking Sheps and Wardens. It keeps the games fresh for me because I can put myself more in the moment and yet outside, thinking "so if this question was asked in total isolation" and then choosing a response.

I still have favourites and most of those aren't ugly but I still like my ugly Sheps. I'm working very hard to make a Shepard that looks almost, if not more, derpy than my current ava.

I created one ugly maleShep and I laugh every time I played it. He was funny looking. Paragon type of guy that stayed faithful to Ash.

My first ME2 playthrough was with a fugly toon, it's hard to not make a character with the CC that isn't ugly.
Using a tweaked default Shep atm.

I would not be able to play with an ugly Shepard.  Which is why I don't play as Sheploo (lol).  Only custom Shepards (regardless of gender) for me!

Renegade Sheps can be ugly though.  Would you be able to take a good guy seriously if he looked like the Terminator?  Probably not... but with that combined with one of those helmets, he could be quite an intimidating fellow.

Edit: Wow, SyphonFilter...  She is pretty.

Got a face code for that?

Here's a face that looks exactly the same as this one on mass effect 2 faces database.

http://www.masseffec...php?faceID=1144

No offense to the guy who posted the screenshot of the face but, if they look the same, you either created it first or you're already using one someone else made.

Yes I got the idea from there. And yes they look very similar. However I used Gibbed and made some of my own personal changes. So yeah I took the ground work of someone else and modified it.

I will not take credit for the idea to use Ash's textures for femshep. But I will still call her mine for the changes I made.
