Just a thought that is mulling through my head.....

If your Hawke was able to grant one wish to each of his/her companions and the main npc's, what do you think each of them would wish for? (doesn't need to be serious).

I could go with some of what is seen in the Night Terrors quest, but I'll make some assumptions otherwise.
Off the top of my caffeine-deprived head:

Aveline: a small castle on Blight-free land

Bethany: a life free and hers alone to mold

Fenris: Danarius' head on a plaque (to mount in the mansion - just seems like something he would do) and a newly stocked wine cellar

Isabela: a sound ship, reliable winds, and blades that never dull (oh, and whiskey that is free of rat droppings)

Merrill: restoration of some of the lost history of the Dalish (maybe procurement of an encyclopedic equivalent?), and a griffon

Varric: ownership of the Hanged Man, a printing press at this beck and call, and some minions to do all of that guild work he is avoiding

Probably more serious than necessary, but I'll sheepishly point to the afore-mentioned "caffeine-deprived."

I always imagined poor Merril making an "oops" and wasting hers, wishing for morning time or a sunny day or the likes.

I agree Isabela would wish for the "Big boat"

Anders wish would depend on the Act in which it was granted, Act 1 - Immortal Tabby-cat to Act 3 - the death and destruction of everything Templar everywhere lol.

Fenris would want a non-magic hangover cure

Aveline:  More recruits and the funds to train them properly
Bethany: A nice quiet cottage somewhere for her to study and potter in the garden (not sure if she's a gardener but I think she'd like it)
Fenris:  A gift certifcate for a cleaning service...those bodies must really smell by now
Isabela:  A whetstone delivered by a pair of well built young men
Merrill:  Access to the best libraries in Thedas and some shoes
Varric:   Oil for Bianca and the finest whiskey available
Sebastian:   A course in increasing your self confidence and decision making skills

Merrill is obvious, she would wish for Arlathan restored. Or a baby Griffon....
Isabela would wish for a Qunari ship with lots of gunpowder.
Aveline would wish for Isabela wouldn't get such a boat.
Varric would wish Oghren's secret recipe.
Sebastian would wish for guidance.
Fenris would wish for his memories to come back.
Anders would wish for templar's armor to be made of jelly.
Bethany would also wish for the griffon.
So would Carver, but it's a secret.

Isabela wants her boat!

Aveline wants My Hawke to stop making so much trouble in her city.

Anders wants cat. Also for the world to understand that most mages just want to be able to be people. Change the circle into a school rather then a prison. Somewhere safe where mages can learn to -be safe- and not live in fear and imprisonment. If a mage didn't feel the need to use last-resort measures and go all blood magic demon rablerablerawrfased on everyone, there might just be less of it. Not sure how it would work, but that's what he wants.. and my Hawke would totally give it to him. Both, not just the cat, though he'd get one of THOSE when ever he wanted, just to keep him from blowing things up ;p

Fenris wants my hawke to stop freeing crazy mages, and helping crazy mages, and come back to bed, and to bring the wine with her.

Bethany wishes to be normal, or to have the world understand she's not dangerous. Also someone to love her, truely.

Varric wants the hanged man.

Sebastian wants the chantry, no starkhaven, no the chantry, no starkhaven... and I'd just throw him in the ****house and get it over with. PICK ONE. CHOOSE NOW SEB. STARKHAVEN AND HOT WOMEN, OR THE CHANTRY AND NONE. ;p

To be fair, the question was "What would x character wish for". I never said  -i'd- wish for it ;p It would be what Anders wished for!

Also I managed to miss Merrill. Merrill would wish for pretty flowers, and a fixed Eluvian with out the blood magic, or perhaps with out the blood magic hate. Or possibly a Fluffy baby gryphon ;p

Elgar'nan, why do all your hypothetical wishers think so small?

Saying that Anders would wish for a functional, free existance for mages is as controversial as saying that Merril would wish for the Dalish to regain all the lost power and knowledge of their ancestors. I mean, that's both of their respective reasons for almost everything they do, basically. I can see all sorts of ways for those wishes to backfire. We did say wish, not boon... though if Hawke's doing the granting, she might choose to be merciful. Then again, I can see Hawke granting Merril's wish and, as a side effect, the ancient and cursed ruins of Arlathan hewing themselves up from the underdark, corrupted and reeking and filled with Darkspawn (or worse), straight-out in the middle of the Tevinter Imperium. I would laugh... so hard.

If I were Merril I'd wish the Elven Pantheon back (nothing upsets the status quo like a complete change of gods), but I don't think she'd be clever (or mad) enough to do that. Everyone other than Anders and Merril is much harder.

I think Aveline would probably just wish for Kirkwall to be peaceful and safe, with just courts and loyal guards.

I can't tell if Fenris would go anti mage, anti slavery, or pro-Fenris-getting-his-life-back. I think it depends on the act... in acts one or two, he might wish for his family and memories back. After that, I'm not sure... perhaps he'd wish for the downfall of the Tevinter Empire and an end to slavery.

Isabella would wish for a big boat with a loyal crew of glistening, fit, attractive people of various races and genders. Because she's an equal opportunity employer.

Varric would wish for what all writers wish for: for every book he writes from now on to be an instant classic, an immortal comment on the human (er, dwarvish?) condition, remembered throughout the ages, raking in money and expensive lunches where people compliment him on his genius.

I mean that one is easy.

Seb would wish... to know what was the best thing to do. For certainty, I think.

Carver would wish to be more famous than Hawke on his own merits. Possibly stronger, too.

Bethany would wish for a normal life where she doesn't inconvenience anyone and she can just live.

Merrill would ask for all the lost magic of her people. (which includes some powerful arcane warrior and blood magic)

Anders... Duh, for mages to be freed.

Varric, he'd ask for the perfect tavern, and for it to always be free to him.

Sebastian would ask all to follow the chantry.

Aveligne... I have no idea.

Fenris, for all mages to be stripped of their magic.

Carver, fortune to the Hawke name, and to always be remembered.

Bethany, to lose her powers.

Aveline would always be capable of protecting her loved ones, no matter what the foe.

Anders would wish for a justice system that would acknowledge and protect his basic humanity.

Fenris would unseat the magisters, perhaps forcing them onto a level playing field with all their slaves.

Merril would restore her people's strength and culture, which would at minimum mean freedom from human whims.

Varric would become the Shakespeare and Charles Dickens of his world - but maybe he's already on his way.
 
Isabela would ensure her life's an adventure, complete with a ship and crew up to the task.

Bethany would live a life free of running and hiding, but I don't know if she would necessarily give up her magic.

Carver would become his own man, making a proud name and good life for himself.

Sebastian would wish for the wisdom to make the best choices in life.

And Hawke would undo the deaths of her mother and sibling. Maybe if they took another path while fleeling Lothering, or perhaps prevent the Ostagar debacle.

Carver would wish for just once getting the girl instead of his big brother getting her.
Anders would wish for his cat back, either Ser Pounce or Rage demon Mr Wiggums since the latter could kick templar butt for him.
Merrill, a new ball of twine (because like some other posters, I think she'd blow it by accident).
Isabella, a big boat with a crew of greased up sailors to attend to her every whim.
Varric, wood oil (wax?) for Bianca and the perfect ending for that big story he's been wanting to tell.
Aveline, a gag for Isabella
Sebastian, a decision one way or the other
Bethany, no more magic
Fenris, Denarius' head on a platter, with a side order of Hadriana
