If the Cerberus crew were being held near Shepard's trial, you might be able to get them back. Shepard's word would have a lot of influence, and if the Alliance hasn't had time to fill Normandy with their own crew, can they really be picky during a reaper invasion?

this brings up two subjects

the first one is a good one. I am glad we are with the alliance again.

the second one (even tho it's an allusion) is not.....and that that the SR2 might have been under the control of Ash/Kaiden. Ash and Kaiden potentially outrank shepard, if not as a spectre definitely as an alliance officer and as such could, at any given moment, take it back if they were to disagree with Shepard

that.....pisses.....me......offf

especially after horizon. I feel like it's a disaster waiting to happen.

I always figured the Normandy was being prepped for the Spectre VS. It explains why the VS is close enough to the ship to escape Earth and pick up Shep.

It makes sense, maybe Shepard will be more of an XO at the start rather than the actual person in charge?

Oh god no. I would hate it if Bioware did that. Hate.

Also a good point.

To everyone saying the crew is former Alliance, note the word 'former' in the sentence. They basically went rogue to work for an organization which is responsible for a lot of problems in the past, and is going all-out frenzy during the Reaper War. Sure, let's round them all up back in our ranks!

I'm not saying some Traditional Plawt Tweest won't put the merry team back together, but it's all speculation at this point... Maybe the Alliance didn't actually have time to stack the ship with a crew, and Shepard just picks up old acquantainces him/herself? But what about EDI, then?

Ashley using the Normandy to fulfill her Spectre duties seems unlikely.

But think of the potential mutiny drama! I'm totally on Team Shepard.

And about the hate on possibly being XO, why the fuss? The Horizon incident was a filler to get the VS postponed for ME3, we're all on the same side when the war breaks out. I'm pretty sure that rank plays little role in their respect of Shepard, and how they trust him in leading the counterassault. He'll be made de facto Captain right away.

EDI is pretty smart though. I'm sure she could pretend to be a VI while the Normandy was being fixed up. Most people don't go assuming a ship as an AI, unless Shepard reported it to them.

I'm more concerned about fighting Ashley/Kaidan for my bunk. This will be war, VS.

Well you couldn't seriously be surprised about this. The Alliance repossessing a Cerberus ship and leaving the Cerberus crew to serve on it would be rather weird.

Not really surprised, it's quite interesting what it entails though

Shepard is court martialed, I very much doubt that they repurposed the ship and assigned an active crew to it just for him. There is a plotpoint behind this.

Probably not as big as it sounds. The Normandy SR-2 is simply an upgraded and vastly improved version of the Alliance's most advanced warship -- the SR-1 -- . Naturally the Alliance will want to keep it, repurpose it and give it an Alliance crew to serve in the Alliance Navy again.

I understand where you're coming from with the SR2 having been given to the VS who is now a spectre. There have been numerous debates over this on the forums (including what will happen to the VS if he/she tries to take command) but the only way to know for certain is to wait until march 6th or have BioWare explain it as another (potential) plot spoiler -- which I'd rather they don't.

As far as Alliance ranks go, Ashley is still below Shepard- she's a Lieutenant. The only one who would actually outrank Shep would be Kaidan.

And seeing as you potentially still have Spectre status (ME2 council discussion) and Anderson reinstates you into the SAN at the end of the prologue, Shepard still has all the necessary ranks. I don't see it being too big of a problem, though that's not to say there won't be any at all.

Plus I don't think the Spectres even have a defined rank structure in the first place.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember there being any in-game evidence to prove this- most of the crew afaik were already part of Cerberus before ME2. Also you can't really expect all Cerberus personnel to have similar personalities- there seems to be a diverse variation of viewpoints among Cerberus personnel- from the ruthless Kai Leng to the compassionate Kelly Chambers.

That doesn't mean that they didn't have previous experience with the Alliance though, whether it was joining up, protection, etc. And like you said, Cerberus has shown to have a diverse variation of viewpoints. Miranada and TIM would most likely choose a crew that would make Shepard most comfortable, that means no one that would be outright uncomfortable working with aliens or Shepard's choices.

Besides, going through something like that with someone, you quickly gain a large bond of trust, similar to how the crew of SR-1 was comfortable possibly being prosecuted for treason after stealing the ship. They all left Cerberus together assumibly as well, considering it seems Shepard rejoins the Alliance regardless of the choice with the Collector base.

It's just assumptions, I became very connected with my SR-2 crew, so it'd be a shame to replace them all again.

It's a given that they'll stretch plausibility, if necessary, in order to keep old favorites around...

That being said, why do people assume that the Alliance would automatically be free to do with the Normandy SR2 as they pleased? Shepard might need to (and want to) go back for a court martial, but that doesn't mean he's going to drag his entire crew back with him, so they can be summarily arrested as terrorists in possession of stolen Alliance technology.

So (for example) the crew of the Cerberus getting some kind of deal/amnesty in exchange for Shepard turning himself in and putting the SR2 in Alliance hands wouldn't really be too much of a stretch... by video game standards. They might even honor it to (so people get more of the characters they like) instead of lying to get people to turn themselves in and sending everyone to Space Guantanamo.

I don't get why people keep saying that Kaidan outranks Shepard... Kaidan is staff commander Alenko, Shepard is a full blown commander and neither of which answer to the Alliance, they both answer to the Council on equal standing as Spectres unless you're douche.

it's the "possibility"of the incident people are not happy with.

Imagine a Rachni situation where Ashley can actually outrank Shepard. Or something along those lines anyway where Ashley can take control if she disagrees with Shepard. Sorry but no. I do not want a crewmember that has more authority than I do when push comes to shove especially since Bioware already said there will be heavy conflicts. If that is the case I'll just happily airlock her at the first chance I get.

and before people go "ZOMG you wanna kill her just because she was a ***** on horizon" and "she had all the rights in the world to doubt you" or some other BS defense line......it does not matter how crappy the writing was or how justified she may or may not have been, it "happened". She (and kaiden) had a choice....she (he) made the call. If they were underlings I would not have much of a problem, but as superioirs............Hell NO. I'd rather take them out of the picture altogether.

I think there is definitely a strong bond between Shepard and the crew that Shepard rescues from the Collector Base, regardless of allegiances and loyalties. Regardless of how the trial goes down, I would wager that Shepard would go to great pains to make sure his/her crew was not affected by the trial, even if it met sacrificing him/herself to protect them from the Alliance authorities. That would certainly be within Shepard's nature, maybe it is a term of his/her surrender. Perhaps the Cerberus crew will be "pardoned" and when the Reapers come knocking they just happen to be the closest crew around to run the Normandy and the Alliance won't have a choice but to take them onboard and maybe give them Alliance status later.

Perhaps Joker, Chakwas, Kelly, Rupert, Ken & Gabi, etc. are all pardoned after Shepard gives testimony. Those that were formally Alliance are reinstated as part of the terms of conditions and those that weren't in the alliance are fast-tracked at the behest of Shepard via Hackett to avoid sentencing.

There is a particular piece of footage from Gamescom, where Shepard (wearing armour) walks through the CIC of the Normandy, past a crewman holding a datapad and wearing an Alliance uniform, looks up to the camera and says in german, "I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite booth at Gamescom."

Looks like the crew of the Normandy are Alliance soldiers. That's pretty interesting, I think. The fact that not only the Normandy is refitted but also has an active crew could be important. For all we know, Ashley or Kaiden were to be using that ship to fulfill their Spectre duties.

Ash and Kaiden are going to need to get themselves a new ship, i doubt Sheperd would step down  to let one of the lead.
Okeer would disaprove.

they might not have much of a choice ... beside ripping everything out and rebuilding the Normany instead of retro-fitting.

It wouldn't be hard to kill EDI. All they'd have to do is destroy the AI core which is her 'brain' if you destroy that than she'd be gone. It wouldn't be an overly difficult thing to do at all.
