I mean they look absolutely ridiculous on some classes and races. Is there any way to hide it so it can't be seen?

Helmets are technically heads. If you hide it you are headless.

That said, there is a trick you can pull off so that, client side only, the helmet model does not replace the head one and that consists in equipping your helm and then quickly equipping your armor (use quickslots).

I can't believe it! That actually works! I just tried.
I've been fighting against those ugly iron tea-pots all my NWN life!
And that even keeps working when going through transition areas.

Thanks, Kail!

except this "client-side" means that your char still wearing the helm just only you wont see it, everyone else will

so its useless in PW environment, where module builders must offer some solution for players to do this (and there is few ways)

That's somethin a builder should keep in mind, never make an helmet mandatory or too special.
Especially for those who play mostly girls.

It is not useless at all. It depends what one wants to achieve. If it's enough for the player to get to see the character's face for his/her own enjoyment notwhitstanding what others get to see, then all is fine and dandy.

AFAIK there is no elegant solution that works for all. If anyone knows about one, please post a link!

You could have a miscellaneous medium item with the helmet pot appearance and a description of "No helmet equipped."  Have two properties on helmet pot.

First an activate item property (for equipping the helmet) that copies the item property of a targeted helmet as long lasting temporary item properties of the skin.  Then copy the helmet to a chest in an inaccessible area, and delete the one in the inventory.  The item's description and its properties could then be placed in the helmet pot's description through GetStringByResRef()  and Get2DAString() (this may be the most lengthy part of the script).

Second a unique power self property (for unequipping the helmet) that removes the temporary item properties from the skin and brings the copied helmet back into the inventory.  Then clear the helmet pot's description replacing it with "No helmet equipped."

Of course, but I meant that if you want to be visible for others
without helm too, then this trick dont work. And I think you understood
that.

Baragg's No-show helm script (somewhere at vault) can do that. It however must be installed
by module creator, its not client-side thing.

Also one linux nwnx plugin has this ability, its used on HG where you can try it, it works while keeping helm in head slot. The Barrag's solution removes helm to inventory and apply its bonuses on the skin.

That does allow for multiple players to equip the same helmet at the same time.

I dunno which one HG is using to get this effect, but pope_leo's nwnx_items has this functionality. Also, the NWNCX plugin nwncx_tweaks added support for open-faced helmets, which could (I suppose) be used with a null helmet model to show only the head.

EDIT: virusman gives a description of how to do this with NWNCX here.

I made my nwnx version of this because at the time (this is probably 3+ years ago) it looked like HG wasn't going to release theirs (and I wanted no helms bad). I'm pretty positive the options Squatting Monk listed are the only ones publicly available aside from the scripted alternatives.

I generally dislike helmets and equip them only when I really have to. NwN2 does the helmets so much better and on many PWs there's a tool to change your clothing on the spot.
So instead of Teapot of Concentration you have bandanas or circlets instead.
