We already have that. They're called research upgrades.

Not what I was getting at.  Research is permanent and applies either to Shep alone, everyone, or everyone with certain abilities (e.g. all biotics).  I'm talking about the possibility of having a more fine-grained system more like ME1's where you can pick and choose from a variety of upgrades that aren't permanently applied and that can be applied on an individual basis, only the "mod slots" would be part of the character, and not whatever armor they're wearing.

I doubt they'll bring armor upgrades back. The closest thing we'll be bound to get is the unique permanent upgrades to certain squaddies (like Grunt's health upg. and Legion's shield upg.)

Hey just to clarify, does this rule out "casual" outfits on the normandy? Does it rule out "proper" gear in vacuum or poisonous environs?

I mean we have been told that Ashley is getting Armor, does that count as an "alt" skin? Much clarification is needed.

No, it seems that Ashley and Kaidan by that logic will get an onboard casual outfit and combat armor when outside. Maybe others will too.

I say we mod the hell out of this game!
If the Devs are too lazy to do this right we should step in, at the very least we should be able to give the humans Shepard's armor!

As long as there is a decent amount of costumes and the armors make a difference stats-wise, I am completely fine with this.

I also hope that all the classic costumes of the squaddies will make a return.

He is referring to selecting custom colors for squad mates, not changing armors.

For example, Casey Hudson already said that Ashley will have a full-armor option.

"Also lots of questions about Ashley. We've only showed her in a jacket
outfit & its CE variant. She will also have full armor and helmet."

twitter.com/#!/CaseyDHudson/status/88281509471076352

But he clearly said to be only "alt skins" like in ME2 so no armor customization too as for the Ashley armor part, its just probably another skin probably not customizable.

He said that in response to being asked if squad armor COLORS will be customizable like Shepard's in ME2. You can't just rip the answer out of context.

I just want them to add the most customization they can, if they really want to connect you more to your characters

I'd rather have meaningful customization than merely cosmetic. If not implementing the ability to give Ashley a pink top means they've introduced the ability to give her non-visual armor upgrades (ala Dragon Age 2 companion upgrades) then I'll take that as a win.

And to head off the counter-argument I already sense coming, people disliked the companion armor mods in DA2 because it was a step back from the level of customization in DAO. If we get that system in ME2, it will be an addition and improvement over ME2.

u know that there is a problem with ur opinion right?......

its urs and only urs, and i think the total oposite.... the DA2 system was horrendus.............. 10 years using the same clothes????,  the me2 system....... wich system???? u cant do anything with ur companions, i wont pay a buck of my hard earned cash for some visual-stetic change....... i really dont get the "unique look" thing..... that works fine if u like what u got, that only serves for dont picking squadmates becouse their  "unique look" looks really ugly, but that again is an opinion and urs my differ from mine, u get what i mean right?

:P

imo + customization + fun B)

then do - boring armor , i mean u want a unique look then do a unike armor

in me u got 10000 armors with little diferences and some visual changes, in me2 u got 0 armors and 2 visual changes, then why for me3 dont make 10 diferent armors with 10 different looks with some slots to mod

Hmm, given how little different the alternate costumes and alternate appearance packs were in comparison to default ones in ME2, the idea of large amount of differently looking, customizable and interchangle armors / parts sounded like too much work for the potential benefits it would bring from the start to me... But I admit, it was worth trying and fighting for. (:-/

Now, that we have been given more realistic outline... I think it is central to our (or at least my^_^) interests to emphasize, just like many posters did before me,...

... that if it is possible, we (I^_^) would really and I mean really appreciate, if the alternate costumes were different from the the default ones.

In other words, it was nice that we had a chance to switch costumes in Mass Effect 2 at all...

Image IPB

(I am using my Miranda ilustration pics again lol:P)

... but given that people have different aesthetic preferences, that some of us would love to have more practical / militaristic versions of some of the costumes and that variety and diversity in general is a good and enriching thing ...

...  I would love to see more different costumes which would cover wider range of desires and preferences - i.e. something like this:

Image IPB or... at least like this... Image IPB

No customization (different colours, materials, parts, etc.), no interchangability, no large amount of costumes is necessary. Just one nice little but significantly different (especially in case of lightly armored / dressed squadmates / characters) costume for every squadmate and I would be happy. :)

What armor is boring is utterly subjective.

And "dress up" as you would call it has an effect on mission survival and sucess.

Armor is meant to protect, not to be paraded in a fashion show.

Armor in general is lame to me.

and I dont want my squad all tanked up for the sake of "realism" in a sci-fi game with giant space robots.

Maybe im coming across wrong. Its like this in me1 by the time I was level 60 every one was in some form of colossus armor which to me is very lame. I like the me2 way of having squadies that come with their own cool outfit (ex. Thane, Miranda, Kasumi, Samara) If me3 went back to that I would be a sad shepard.

I doubt they will go back to the ME 1 style of armors.  If anything there will be fewer overall armors but more variety if they do squad armor.  Kind of like how they changed up the weapons in ME 2 from what they had in ME 1.  In ME 1 there were more brands but all the assault rifles for example looked and felt the same.  In ME 2 you had fewer overall assault rifles but more variety to choose from because the assault rifles you could choose from each had a unique look and feel.  I am hoping squad armor is the same way if they do that.

The problem with those exact people you mentioned were wearing stuff that couldn't even be considered armor.  DLC fixed that for Miranada but until that DLC she looked downright rediculous in combat.  That stuff would have been fine for casual wear on the Normandy though.

I loved tha you can have matching outfits. It's military dammit. Ever heard of a squad?

There is no *I* in a a team.

And hte point being, when having multiple outfits, no one is forcing you to use them. You don't HAVE to put everyone in collossus armor. But just like in real life, if you decide not to wear protection because it color doesn't match your mascara, then you deserve to die for your stupidity.
Beautifull consequences.

well the problem here is, that for u that was COOL, but for me was not, in all my playthrougs i only use garrus ,tali and kasumi becouse the rest of squadies their outfit were ugly for me, i always rush trough their LM just to not see them till the end of the game

that is my opinion and is as valid as urs...

so i was just saying that a middle ground betewn ME and ME2 , is better than attach squadies with the "COOOOOOOOOOOOOOL" of someone else<_<

This poll's results are relevent.

What kind of armor system would you prefer for ME3?

Every team member gets a modular, customizable, armour like Shepard's N7 in ME2 - 70% (2039 votes)

Same armour system ME1 had - 12% (395 votes)

Same armour system ME2 had (allies have a default "armour") - 12% (343)

Doesn't mattet to me - 4% (108 votes)

Seems Bioware went with the least popular option.

Hmm, guess this is one of those minority benefit things that occurs in all first world countries.

As long as we have casual outfits on the Normandy and other non-combat areas, and armored hardsuits that can accomodate full-face helmets in combat/hazardous zones, I'm okay with not being able to recolor squadmate armor.

This. Also, I think some of the personalized armors added to the personality of the characters compared to the simple re-colored same three sets of armor in ME1.
