I honestly didn't think it could be done... but I did it.
This is before Horizon, so I'm seriously lacking in upgrades.

Nuke the gunships at the right moment, and it looks like one will crash in the way of the mech on the right?

I won't lie... I discovered it by luck after numerous attempts.
But thank you! ^.^

I did an earlier run saving 18, but I forgot to show builds and difficulty... so I started again, and for some reason wasn't satisfied unless I could save 18 again. Eventually this happened, and all was well in the Universe. o.o

I had this exact same thing happen about a week ago but never bothered redoing it or taking a vid to show on youtube. I suggest changing the name of the thread though because other classes can do this too, not just the adept

I've tried something I always wanted to and the effect was.. let's say so interesting, that I uploaded it,
guaranteed the fastest way to save all twenty crates and the easiest one. Oh and it's so sad it destroys something deep inside the game. You might consider it cheating and not without a reason.

Edit: it's actually just like in your video caj, so wrecked gunships block YMIRs, but Shepards awesomness let's them dissolve.

I discovered it by accident, and it doesn't always work, but I think that's just if you don't time it right. You simply have to tap the button again, when the first slug hits... something like that.
And I don't know if someone has done it before, I haven't seen it, but that doesn't mean much.

I think about six months ago a guy saved all 20 using the rocket launcher ( see his note below ). There have been some threads about the saving 20 crates, but I never saw anyone do it like you just did.

No Teammates

The rocket launcher strategy is given by Zaisha_temp:

"You can cheese this assignment, actually.

Bring the missile launcher, don't move forward from your starting position. (order your teammates to stay in place and don't use drones) fire the rocket launcher high up into the sky in the general direction of the fighting area. Despite the fact that you cannot target or even see the YMIRs the missile will automatically track and hit one of them and cause it to attack you at your starting location. Kill it using any method you like. Repeat procedure twice.

You will kill all three YMIRs without ever triggering the "kill crates" script. 20/20 every single time, guaranteed. (unless you get killed by fighting one mech at a time)

Pure cheese and exploitiness, but hey, if it works..."

It seems if you do it at a low lvl one Hit is enough. Never tried that, because I usually buy those HW ammo upgrades last and don't get enough on missions to get the Cain that early. Shame on me, my way isn't the fastest one, don't trust salarians!

Nice! That looks a lot like how you can fire a second shot with the GPS after a charged one, only you're using the Cain

P.S. Is this at level 30?

Yes it is. Lvl 30 after SM and Arrival. I think you might get enough ammo with 6 HW weapon upgrades and the Ordinance Pack, since you still need 200% ammo to perform this... exploit, but I had 7 upgrades and the Kestrel Armor in this vid.

Makes you wonder why the Cain doesn't nuke the crates too 

So has anybody ever done this without heavy weapons? I can save 0 crates with just small arms (it's harder than it sounds, time it too late and you get jumped by all three mechs at once, time it too early and you'll get the third one's attention before it finishes off the last few crates), but I've never managed the opposite.

without hw my best was maybe 12 or something like that. You might be able to get more with Stasis, but I never tried that. And I also thought the Cain would destroy the crates, until I saw a vid proving it's not the case.
