If you recall, the Dalish elf Warden was raised by a woman named Ashalle after his/her parents died. You can briefly speak to her during the Origin and she may tell the Warden about their family.
If she was a member of Merrill's clan, then where is she? Why did she not come north to the Free Marches? Did she stay behind in Ferelden, either to stay with her adopted charge or to mourn him/her?
What happened to Ashalle?

This is one of the issues I have with a Dalish Warden import. DA2 tries to set it up that with Merrill in Kirkwall and the Keeper not wanting to leave her and the Halla gone that the clan can't leave.... Yet my Mahariel met Ashalle who talked about the rest of the clan as if they were outside the city somewhere and we were all going to go to the new Dalish Land together...
The only explanation I can think of is that if you have a Dalish Warden then Ashalle and some of the other members of the clan went back to Fereldan once they heard about the Archdemon going down, got there in time for the ceremony and went to the new lands with some of the other clans, while the majority of the clan stayed in sundermount with Merethari
If your warden wasn't dalish??? Maybe Ashalle didn't make the journey?
Also if Mahariel makes the ultimate sacrifice Merethari will be at the funeral to receive the boon... I don't know what's going on there.

I was a little sad that our Origins didn't matter that much at all. Aside from Amell being related to Hawke, the Dalish to.. Well the dalish and the Cousland could marry ANora/Alistair there wasn't really anything unique about importing a origin.
I would have loved to meet Fergus, Gorim, (Jowan if freed,) Soris, Ashalle or Rica with a link to a bonus quest depending on your origin.

Ashalle is still in Ferelden, managing the boon given to the Dalish.
