Processor+architecture, whether you plan to overclock and number of fans would help.

Sorry but I don't want to create a new thread so I will use this one. My computer shuts down after playing The Witcher 2 on max settings is their a reason for this? After 30 mins or so of play time my comp shuts down and turns on again I think my 650 wat has had it since I have had it for 4 or so years I am going to pick up a 850 wat so I hope that runs fine anyone know if this is a over heating problem or a PSU problem? Thank you I would love some feedback before I go to purchase a new PSU but the environment is quite cool here and I have decent fans in my box but who knows? Please help!

I've been having different but similar crashing issues with my PC for over a year, and I finally narrowed it down to the likely possibility my PSU is inadequate. My rig is nowhere near as robust as yours, and my 650W can barely take being taxed. Although to be fair, it could be PSU degradation in my case.

With four hard drives and that video card, though? I would have gone higher. Probably as high as 850W depending on your exact specs. At least 750W.

How does it look like when your game shuts down? Does the image distort and vanish, or does the computer reboot by itself? Try downloading a utility such as SpeedFan to measure your temperatures while playing. It can tell you if your CPU or GPU are igniting, or if your power supply's wattage is under par.

Hey Seagloom first of all thank you for being here to help assist with my problem since I am a complete NOOB at computers :P my computer runs fine playing lower performance games such as WoW, ALL bioware games but when I go to play The Witcher 2 (I love this game so freaking much but can't even play it)

For some reason it was working fine for quite a while with no problems got through act 1 fine but this was using my old card a HD Radeon 6850 and the settings were only on normal but since I just recently purchased a 6950 HD Radeon 2 gig version I boosted the settings to max with ubersampling off and the game looked AMAZING I was so happy with my purchase of my new card but after a while the comp just shuts off.

There is no image distort or vanish just a instant shutdown then turns itself on so please any help would be awesome but like I said I am happy to go out and purchase a new PSU if that is the problem which it seems like it is.

It could very well be your PSU given the shutdown's nature. However, it can as easily be your new video card is overheating. Install SpeedFan as I suggested earlier, and run a lower end game in windowed mode. Keep track of your GPU and CPU temperatures. After they plateau, repeat the process with the Witcher 2. That is, assuming it does not shut down instantly. If it does, try lowering the settings a bit and see what happens.

I am leaning towards it being a PSU problem, but since overheating can result in shutting down too, we need to rule that out. GPUs usually have a failsafe wherein they automatically shut down to dump heat after reaching a preset temperature. A high end game may be more than its fans and heat skin can handle--especially if your case airflow is poor.

Hey Seagloom I always keep the side of my case off (since it broke lol) but it is winter here and the environment is quite cool here so I don't see how it could be a heating problem because before when I used to have a heating problem on my old card my radeon HD 6850 due to having the graphics set up to high the game would just freeze and you would need to close the game by ending it's process through the task manager so thank you so much for your help now I am scared since I don't know how to put a power supply in lol and if I bring my computer into the store I will have to wait a couple of days so yeah time to watch some tutorial videos :P

You could always order online from NewEgg or Tiger Direct, if you want to shop around. It *should* be more than enough. Your card only requires a 500W PSU and I would be surprised if 850W wasn't up to the task of powering those hard drives. Just make sure the local store has a good return policy if this doesn't solve your problem. If it is PSU degradation, 850W may be overkill. I just think it's better to have more than less, just in case. :P

But yes, that one should be fine. Corsair has a stellar reputation.

What model is your current one? If it's good, you may be able to just RMA it.

The 850W Corsair is *massive* overkill.

My current power supply is a 650W Corsair I have had it for 4-6 years a VERY long time and I just upgraded my computer and wasn't thinking about the power supply at the time when I turn my computer on I can hear a very loud REV sound like the power supply is being drained or is trying to hard to keep my computer running well it seems that way but hey I know nothing about computers :P

My full computer specs are for those who are interested

16 gigs of DDR3 Rip Jaws ram.
Intel Core i5-2500k 3.3GHz (4CPUs) second generation CPU.
ATI Radeon HD 6950 (2 gigabyte version)
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

I am also using 4 hard drives one of them is a 1 TB the others are 500 gigs they are all western digital's. I have a Logitech dvd burning rom and 3 decent sized fans one big one at the top of my box, one at the bottom and one that comes with the Power Supply and my motherboard is a P8Z68-V PRO ASUS and I have about 12 USB ports.

Hey guys just bought a bran new 850 wat corsair power supply and getting this error

Event 41, Kernel-Power The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I play The Witcher 2 for an hour or 2 and my comp completely shuts down and then turns itself back on any ideas?

I''ll repeat, what are your card's gpu and memory clocks, it could be the case that your video card is factory overclocked which in some cases are not fully stable.

It's not overclocked if anything the GPU is downclocked, post a screenshot of the Overdrive tab in the Catalyst Control Center.
