“What we need to do as developers is take that feedback from both sets of fans to heart and see about marrying that in future games in the Dragon Age franchise. I think that the team has actually got a great plan. I think the team is going to have some things that are going to surprise both sets of fans, both core fans and new fans with a marriage of these… the best from both games, Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. And we look forward more to talking about that in the future.”

What is the "best" of both games mean to you guys?

I've got my own opinions, but I've gotta get to work :wizard:

Well no, it's a pretty idiotic concept for me.

It all sounds good on paper, so I don't think there's much to complain about.

DA2 did a few things well and they should keep them. I believe the talent trees were more interesting, the spell effects were improved, the loading screens and mid chapter interludes were well done, for example. On the other hand, there are a myriad of other things they added that did not work or replaced something from DA:O and ended up worse than what was there originally.

I think the key word for DA3 is execution.

My level of dread just rose even further. If you try to please everyone, you please no one almost invariably.

Just admit that DA2 was a mistake (to yourselves if not us) and go back to the general DAO model and improve on that.

I hate to say it, but I think this is probabaly right.  The customer base is too polarized.  If you go please one set, the other will feel slighted so if you try to please them both, you will alienate everyone.

Well, I don't know. If they keep the speed up combat from DA2, toned down the over the top animations and reduced the corpse explotions, all the while building on Origins foundations in other parts of the game, I think it could work pretty well as a starting point.

We'll see.  Based on what I read (and yes my own prejudices), I think it means that it will be DA2 writ large with a couple of things thrown in for the DAO crowd.

That would....not work....I think....

Whatever they blend, I'm sure DA3 will be wicked innovative.

Anyway, I'm surprised PCGamer thought that was worth posting. Maybe it's just because I'm here but it seems that's been said enough already.

So long as Bioware get the time and the money to add more detail to the game and spend more time polishing it  I don't doubt they could make most people happy, I just hope they're given all they need to actually make it happen.

Well for me the BioWare PR train left the station.  It is apparent that developers and professional game reviewers can say anything they want truth be hanged.

I will not buy any BioWare game now until I've had some hands on experience with it myself or I get a review from a friend with similar tastes in games.

They can feel free to say anything they want.

This is nothing new.

What matters is what they think the best of DA2 is and what they think the best of DAO is and how those things can or can't work together.

This has already been said nearly as much as "Da2 Sucks".

That being said, i'm glad they're doing this, but i think that in order for DA3 succeed (Critically, and commercially), they need to understand what can be done and what other games have that they can learn from, and make their own, they don't need to imitate anyone.
Another, they need to understand that the Mechanics from DA2 were good, is the execution that was bad(imo), like the combat, it was more active and fluid, that's GOOD, but they NEED to slow down a bit, not DAO levels but perhaps other games like Assassins Creed or The Witcher 2 levels, and it needs to be less tight, DA2 was not more "Actionny" than DAO's, it was just as mechanic as DAO's, just faster, too fast(imo).

But, Ignoring everything i just said, the 2 things that i think they need for the project to succeed are:

1. Time, Nuff Said

2. Care and Love for the Project, if they really make an effort, and try as much as they can, they can do it, they can succeed.
They have talent, the Problem is whether they use it or not.

Guys, it was one game. Give the team a chance. Legacy was a DLC so, obviously, they couldn't change the main aspects of the gameplay. It does show that they are willing to listen to feedback, however.

If the third game goes badly, then we know something is wrong. But until then... its still Bioware, folks. It's only one team that made this game. Mass Effect still seems to be moving in the right direction and The Old Republic is looking great.
