Now now. We all know the game you really wanted was Dragon Age: Origins 2.

There has been so much good advice on forums about what bioware did wrong, but they are too dumb to listen. As far as I can tell, 90% of the people here could make better games than da2. Either that or EA simply wants all its games to indoctrinate us with meaningless violence, and da5 will just be a static path where your character automatically traverses and all you do is swing the murder knife.

Whoa there, don't make things too complicated, maybe we can just press the awesome button instead and win the game.

WAY too complicated and detailed for our simple minds.

Whatever. There are always certain PR key words to look for when a studio starts talking about their games that you know you should probably avoid a preorder and wait and see.
They include:
"We want to get [competition game]'s audience."
"Core/Older fans of the series shouldn't be worried."
"[traditional gameplay mechanic] isn't modern or appealing to most audiences now days"
"We want to appeal to a wider audience" (note: Nothing wrong with trying to get more people playing your game, but we all know that this is just PR speak for "we're stripping the confusing elements down instead of fixing them and adding more bloody combat so Chad and Brad at the frat house who think choice and decision making is stupid will buy our game")
"button awesome button awesome button awesome"

At least they stopped using the "[competitions game] killer". That one was the funniest and most troll worthy if the game failed or bombed.

I'd say the article probably stands in the "fans of the older game shouldn't be worried" group.

I think he would have been contented with a GOOD game, didn't have to be origins.

Even I, as the biggest Origins fan on Earth would have been happy with a solid game and a good story, instead of a rushed, half finished cash grab (my opinion)

What annoys me about this isn't how it accurately reflects the combat in the entire game. It's how weak the Qui'nari are. A warrior race getting slaughtered like drunk lambs and the skill of a retarded gerbil.

So you're telling me my expectations huh.

Yes i would have, one of the reasons i loved Origins is because the story was solid. Make a solid game and they shall come!

You're kidding yourself tbh.

Oh I know. I know what evil lurks in the hearts of men. For I am the terror that flaps in the night. My brain is overloading. It has a chocolate coating. I'm such a groovy guy. I rocket through the sky....Er, where was I going with this again?

If DA2 truly followed in the vein of DAO even if it was just 15 hours of gameplay, I would've been happy and not post rants months after playing the game. The only reason I played da2 NIGHTMARE multiple times was out of love for dao. Then I told Anders to go away in act 2 even though I had no healer, and he reappeared to do his stupid thing in act 3, and then I was like... I give up, just please stop. And I uninstalled the game and it felt like catharsis.

Nah, I was quoting cartoons that are near and dear to my heart. And the Shadow for some reason. I'm not sure why. I never much liked the Shadow. I had a Shadow action figure once. I did enjoy playing with it. If you squeezed his legs, his arms would shoot up like he was doing a quick draw. And his head had red glass in it so if you shined a light at the glass, his eyes would glow red. Good times.

Yeah, sure. I don't buy it ^_^u

Dragon Age 2 was supposed to refine the Origins mechanics; instead, it simply erased them. So, blending Origins and DA2 will result, probably, in the flashy-super-cool DA2 style with some weak, poor implemented elements from Origins, only put there to please fans. Of course, I wish I'm wrong, but I've read too many absurds from managers and developers.

For me, the things that must be kept from DA2 gameplay are: the idea of quicker combat (but not SO quick) and the idea of Friendship/Rivalry (probably mixing it with the approval system). Take this and bring back all the things that made Origins great (truly refining them, not just erasing them). Like skills, the old art direction, the tactical camera, the fully equipable companions, and so on.

Anyway, I really wish you good luck with Dragon Age 3, and really, really hope that my premonitions are untrue ^_^

I'm almost sure the combat system will be close to that of Dragon age 2, with improvements. :)

The fully equitable companions, mmh.. I have a bad feeling about this.

The old art direction, unlikely.

From origins, maybe they'll bring back more the tactical camera, the skills and companion interactions. ( anytime )

Not sure. I think it will depend on how ME3 handles party inventory, though some form of compromise is likely.

Yeah, I doubt they will change the art direction again.

I could see the tactical camera coming back. Skills...Meh, they would definately need to revamp them. Companion interaction...I think Laidlaw said something about the Origins method being hard to do. I don't remember the exact quote.

Except that, choices and the origins, I don't see at all broadly what they could bring from dao.
Obviously they do not want to go back. DA2 will remain mainly the base for the other sequels. I'm almost sure they will keep the wheel, the voiced protagonist too, etc etc.

Choice and consequence is something they have said they are going to focus on. I didn't have an issue with DA2's choices, but whatever. If Bioware can make them even better, that is a plus. Origins are definately doable. If not different races, then different "professions".

What that video doesn't show is that 5 minutes later a female character walks into the middle of a huge crowd of darkspawn and kills them all outright by unbuttoning her dress and revealing a nipple.

The look of shock on the darkspawns' faces as they exploded was AWESOME! :P
