I think the BioWare guys have learned about spoilers. By this time before ME2's release, we already knew about like half the story. The most spoilerish we know so far about ME3 is that parts of Cerberus might be working for the Reapers.

I really hope so, but does Bioware really make these calls on marketing decisions? I recall someone from Bioware, probably on the DA2 team, stating, or at least implying, that the spoilerish trailers were being created by EA's marketing department.

That begs the question, though, how much, if any, distinction we should make between Bioware and EA. Bioware certainly prefers to blame EA when things go wrong, but I wonder if the distinction has any real meaning anymore.

That's my concern as well,  it's the same bosses,  so there's a very real chance they were insisting upon things being implemented that don't add to the game.  Kinect,  Halo's energy sword,   and the rumored Multiplayer are  really good examples.

My other concern is that we'll discover that "Decisions have impact" amount to no more than emails again about things from the last two games,  with the exception of the Rachni queen who'll obviously play a bigger part.  I strongly suspect this is the case,  because Bioware's ongoing campaign of "This is a great place to start" indicates they won't put emphasis on the past games.  Also troubling is the "New guy intro" that lets you "Make some of the decisions from the last two games",  they're not going to cover everything,  just the highest points,  so I'd venture the majority of what you did will be nothing more than emails since it isn't covered in the intro.

I'm actually expecting to be extremely let down,  even from the low expectations ME2 left me with.

Hanging chads. Yes that means loose ends, but also (and more specifically for me) points to unused material that should be utilized. After this there's no telling what else is in store for the Mass Effect universe. It might just stop here.

Right. The "This is a great place to start" campaign makes me wonder just how much my choices and effort in the prior games will be negated in favor of accessibility for new players.

I completed everything in ME1 and 2, and survived the suicide mission with no casualties, but I'm guessing if any of it gets acknowledged at all, it will be stricly emails and very brief cameos.

We already know that no mention of Feros is made whatsoever in the PS3 Genesis introductory segment. Nor are any of the side missions. Genesis is, unfortunately, probably the best indicator of what will actually count in ME3 as far as save game imports go..

They really should make an effort to reward players who have supported them from the outset, and they have made some suggestions that they are considering doing so, but I doubt it will be anything consequential.

Almost as bad as FableIII

This is coming from a pure mage:

If Dragon Age thinks they can compete with the all-encompassing, thick, rich and organic world of The Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age is crazy.

No...seriously...I'm a pure mage. I wield 85 different spells and shout at dragons (and mutate their skin and bone in torment with Destruction magicka...before taking their soul).

Sounds like a stellar weekend, shouting at dragons and all, but sniping them with a high-powered explosive slug railed straight through their central cortex with the satisfying pink mist afterwards, sounds a lot more satisfying... just my opinion no need to go spreading it around.

My three major concerns are weapon mods, planet exploration, and story writing. The story in ME2 was a trainwreck and the same guy is doing the follow up. Planet exploration is something I really want back from ME1 in a more limited context. My worry about weapon mods is that they will only add stuff like damage, accuracy, and rate of fire. I would like more substantial stuff like silencers.

I liked ME2 storyline.

I prefer the torturing with spells and taking the soul, myself. Your method shows too much mercy.

1. No or limited exploration keeping that crappy planet scanning as replacement.

2. ME2 style pokemon missions "gotta catch them all", then one silly loyalty mission each followed by endgame.

3. Really, Really railroaded and bottlenecked short game.

I have more but those are my biggest concerns.

I'm beginning to highly doubt there will be vehicle exploration of any kind. Just not confirmed yet because I'm sure its known its going to disappoint a lot of people. The "deal with it" people, then, will start to appear, viciously defending why ME3 is an immortal god and still an rpg despite the obvious reality its looking almost exactly like a Gears of War third person shooter in the ME universe, with dialogue.

* Sped up combat: I found the combat speed in ME2 to be perfect, 10-15´% faster is a lot, I hope I wont see inhuman Dragonball Z combat movement speed. Worries me a lot, combat could turn out very cartoonish. Horror.

* Former squad members only playing a very minor role as ''fanbase goodie'' to make room for the new characters.

I'm quite sure that there'll not be vehicle exploration. I remember a twitter where they stated that the presence of the Mako and/or the Hammerhead will be relegated, if present, to some specific missions. I doubt that they're going to create a third vehicle for the exploration. It'd be more reasonable to work on the Mako.
Which is a shame for me. ME exploration wasn't implemented very well in my opinion, but the idea was good. I'd have liked it they've worked on make it better instead of take it off.

If true then that makes me :crying:

I might be one of few but exploration in ME1 for me was something I really loved, even the jagged terrain didn't put me off it much. When ME2 came around I was hoping they would smooth out the terrain and add more "!" "?" or other such icons to the map as for me they were like kinder suprises or presents that couldn't wait to go over check out, find out what it was and explore.

But they had gone the other way and almost completley removed exploration and replaced with stupid planet scanning of which when came on here and talked about it all got from people on here majority answers being "We luv planet scanning derp derp, we want more of it." or comments about how don't have to do it... Well duh even if don't do it still don't have exploration back so why would that make me happy.

Theres still time left so maybe they will add it in, maybe not but my fingers are crossed for it to come back with improved planet surfaces and more icons on maps. Doubtful I know but until they say "Not going to happen" my fingers will stay crossed for it.

I agree with you, exploration in ME, despite its flaws, was fun. Surely more interesting than the planet scanning. .
Thanks god they made it faster with the patch.
I'm going to find the twitter to see what exactly they said, and post it. I hope to be wrong, but I clearly remembered it because I was quite upset when I read it.

But combat is improved! Didst you see all of the new combat shooting, and the sick omniblade? Real with it.

I just really hope ME3 doesn't turn into this formula:

1) Be (re)introduced to the galaxy.
2) Recruit your team -- sorry, allies.
3) Beat the Reapers + Cerberus in one final stroke.

I want it to be more of a war drama, possibly spanning a year. I want saving Earth to be REALLY tough. I want there to be multiple times when your plans fall through, due to the fact that the Reapers have just about seen it all over a period of a billion years.

I am afraid that Bioware will put too much resources into romance and you won't be able to get to know a character without romancing it.

I'm fine with the improvemente on combat (though I'm not too fond of the melee kill hit, especially the double omniblade<_<) but I'll miss the exploration, as I missed  it in ME2. Though after ME2, I din't think that they'll put it back in ME3.
There are something that they've improving from ME2 though. The weapon customization looks good. Now I'm going to wait to have news about the armor customization (hopefully for squadmates too) and the number of weapons. I don't think we can know nothing about the story before the release, and I'm fine with this.
