There are some charts hovering around in these forums somewhere detailing elemental weaknesses of enemies you'll encounter.

What difficulty are you playing on?

Cold and electricity seem to work well across the board....there's also the secondary effects of slow for cold, and stagger for electricity. Spirit damage affects magic resistance though, and is unaffected by armor, so that's often a great choice.

for 2h warrior you want Fire in act 1 and either Cold or Spirit for act 3, meaning Bloom which i prefer or Celebrant.

By far the biggest factor for choosing elemental dmg is gonna be your class/sec of coarse. Few points to consider...

Spirit is always a solid choice BUT not a lot of +Spirirt dmg gear to be had.
Fire can get by far the highest +Fire dmg % from items.
Cold is always solid, but that know of its only Bloom as a 2her in act 3.
Nature is mainly good in act 1 and 2 imo. Mainly Qunari.
I'm not so sure about Electricity....I knw you don't see elec immmunes in act 3 and you can get Glandivalis(1h sword).

you can also get sundering (electric 2H). It has some nice +%electricity and +%crit modifiers but doesn't have rune slots. Electricity can be buffed almost as high as fire (robes of unblemished cleanliness and ferryman's ring). This means that for a 2H switching between bloom and sundering based on elemental immunities/weaknesses may be more ideal (both get buffed by the rouc).

Switching between all three based on elemental weaknesses will obviously be the most ideal, especially if you're not doing the cross-class equipment route.
Elemental weaknesses mean that they will do double damage. This means that even with the potential +~58% electricity damage it would be better to use spirit damage against spirit weaknesses for the +100% elemental weakness bonus.

The Celebrant is the spirit-damage greatsword for Act III. You get it as a drop resulting from finishing a side quest outside of Kirkwall.

Glandivalis is fantastic. Hands down the best 1H weapon. It also has a chance to enslave enemies, which works on sub bosses like Rage Demons and Assassins. The base enslavement chance may appear small (2.5%), but if you're a Berserker under Haste it works more than half the time.

It rings with a piercing "ZING!!!" when you kill things with it. It's also the Sword of Shartan.

Andraste's buttocks, I love that sword to bits. XD

An addendum to what people already said, though this mostly applies if you play on nightmare difficulty: You can "stick with" the element you like, but always have a backup of another element, for those immune to the first one.

ARC- fire (switch to physical for immune)

DW- nature (switch to physical for immune. You could also invest in the spirit if you’ve got cash to spare for enemies weak to spirit and you don’t mind the constant switching.)

WS- spirit (switch to physical for immune. You could also invest in electricity or fire if you’ve got the cash to spare for enemies weak to those elements and you don’t mind the constant switching.)

2H- cold (switch to physical for immune. You could also invest in spirit or electricity if you’ve got the cash to spare for enemies weak to those elements and you don’t mind the constant switching.)

MAG- you have access to all the elements so either switch out constantly when you auto-attack or stick to the staves that help w/ your spellcasting. I personally prefer malcolm’s honor.

Electricity doesn’t stagger. It stuns. This makes it one of the better elements for threat management. Spirit halves the target’s mag res and dmg res. All elemental dmg is unaffected by armor and is the main reason to use those weapons over non-hawke’s key physical weapons.

I disagree. I say it’s edge of night due to improves with level up and more rune slots. You can fit in both the primeval lyrium rune and the rune of devastation. With more DLC, our levels will increase so glandivalis will get left behind and will be a waste of the primeval lyrium rune. On a level 50 game, edge of night is hands down the best probably followed by the hawke’s key.
