After completing Samara's recruitment quest, Miranda's loyalty quest, and buying the star charts on Ilium, I return to the Normandy only to find that when I access the galaxy map, the camera slides into the animation, the screen goes black, and then my Shepard appears standing in front of the console frozen with no galaxy map pulled up.

For the record, this is a legit copy, purchased on Steam. I have run the local file compare and it says there are no discrepancies, but I can no longer advance the game without being able to get back to the galaxy map!

Did you have a cutscene with Samara's recruitment?
Did you do Jack's loyalty first or did you do Miranda's first?
It almost sounds like something forgot to fire correctly and we need to figure out what. Just for kicks and giggles post your machine specs as per the FAQ thread at the top and make sure steam has updated your game copy to 1.02.

To be honest, the game runs immaculate.

So I did stuff on Illium in this order: Helped Liara, obtained Star Charts, did Miranda's Loyalty mission, did Samara's recruitment mission. At the end of her mission, it returns you to the Normandy. It is at this point that I cannot access the galaxy map without the game freezing.

I had the cutscene with Jacob and Samara where we sent her to the Observation deck.

I have not done Jack's loyalty mission yet.

What does Kelly say if you talk to her?
How many missions have you done some Horizon?
I am trying to find out if possibly you should get another call from the illusive man. And maybe find out what happens when you visit other decks .

Let me check the comm console with the Illusive Man. Kelly hasn't said anything yet, but it is worth a shot to see if it is up.

Yeah, still nothing. Music flares up and everything, but no galaxy map. Sad thing is, it works on all my other saved games, just not this file.

If it's local to a single character save, you may try a save editor and see if you can spot a bad flag. Also can you recruit Thane and see if it changes anything? Plus did you talk to Kelly or just check the comm room?

I've already recruited Thane and Kelly doesn't have anything to say about the crew or about checking the comm room. I just downloaded the Gibbed save editor. What would a "bad flag" look like?
