Merrill is around the same age as the Dalish Warden, which means she's likely older than Hawke.

I don't think so.  Hawke is probably 25ish at the start of the game, since Leandra was pregnant when leaving Kirkwall, while the Warden seems to be around 20 at the start of Origins.

What exactly is a "cradle robber" anyway?
Also, it's true, she looks exactly the same for seven years, but if she's 17ish when you first meet her, you don't sleep with her until she's 20. That doesn't sound too bad.

You've never heard that phrase?  It's a derogatory slang for someone is sexually involved with someone that, while technically an adult, is obscenely younger than them.  Like a 60 year old millionaire dating a 19 year old.

Like GavrielKay said, it's more a mental age.  Innocent is cute and endearing... to a point.  When someone thinks a mugging is a greeting, I'd feel like it was taking advantage of them no matter how old they are.

That's more a lack of familiarity with the environment. Not only that, that line is said three years prior to any possible sexual encounter.

I'm not sure how anyone can mistake a violent robbery for a welcome, regardless of cultural differences...  the second is a fair point though.  *sigh*  Why did they have to make the only good lady the main character's sister?  Forever stuck in an Anders little-more-than-bromance.

Romances are obviously a personal choice.  I don't think anyone who feels one way or the other is going to be swayed.

I did kinda like that in DA2 the companions had their own motives and would act on them even if Hawke didn't help.  But I wished Hawke could have some motives and act on them as well.

Maybe Merrill is trying to err on the generous side when figuring out Kirkwall's customs. Considering everything she has to deal with, I wouldn't envy a pessimistic Merrill.

We don't know when Leandra was pregnant. The Mage Pack states Leandra and Malcolm left because he was found out and they decided to leave after an Orlesian ball, and 'dialogue clips' from Legacy don't really pin point Hawke's time of birth.

I never took Merrill to be serious when she gave that line - she jokes around quite a bit.

I think Merrill is being sarcastic in that conversation, though it can be hard to tell with her. There are certainly later conversations on similar lines where this is totally clear - when talking about her life in Kirkwall to Ilen, or in her initial conversation with romanced Hawke in the mansion in Act 3 where she clearly doesn't actually consider pickpocketing a friendly gesture.

If I'm not totally wrong Bethany mentions, after the third clip, that Leandra must have been pregnant with Hawke when they left Kirkwall.

My problem with that scene is that it makes no sense - if Malcolm "bought their freedom," then why are they running from the templars in the first place? In Carver's personal quest, Malcolm knew Tobrius and Ser Carver, but according to the Mage Pack, he was an apostate who came to Kirkwall on a mercenary mission, but according to Legacy, he could leave because he made a deal with the Grey Wardens - all of these backstories contradict one another. It makes as much sense as Anders' endgame dialogue that completely contradicts what he says in his Act II quest when he's given the Tevinter amulet.

At least pessimistic Merrill has a life expectancy longer than a cobra surrounded by mongooses. Varric's underworld connections and bribes are the only reason that optimistic Merrill didn't get raped, dismembered, and stuffed in a dumpster behind the Hanged Man in the middle of the night. Kirkwall is... not the best place if you have a lot of faith and trust in people.

She barely knew what sarcasm was an hour earlier when Hawke met her. Possible though.

Ohhh, that's where it was. Lemme get a quote...

Hawke: Mages have been free in Tevinter forever. It hasn't fallen yet.
Anders: Well, they did invade the Black City in their hubris and unleash darkspawn on us all, right? That's kind of the Circle's whole rationale. But I think that has more to do with being a magister than a mage.

Okay then. Anders as the "no really, it IS gray!" mouthpiece is officially retarded.

To be fair, Merill never had any indication that the alleys of Kirkwall were dangerous, presumably because Varric saw the problem immediately and started his bribery campaign as soon as Merrill settled in.

Though, would you want to rape someone who can crush your head with a stone fist or make your blood explode?

Master Ilen seemed to get that Merrill was being sarcastic when she talked about the Alienage being 'sunshine' and 'rainbows.' It reminds me of Merrill's dialogue about Ser Pounce-A-Lot - it sounds just as serious as her talk about muggings, but her dialogue with Bethany talks about having a pet griffin named Feathers, so I'd say Merrill was saying it in jest.

Which is why, if I was ever inclined to replay Legacy, I wouldn't bring Anders with me. That endgame Legacy line simply makes no sense.

I can't imagine they'd know she was a mage... Cullen didn't know my Hawke was a mage after watching a torrent of blood magic. Not that it matters, rapists don't tend to be the most intelligent people.

Hehe. Reminds me of that scene in Witcher where the pain in the ass kid says he ran away after a bunch of Salamandra broke in and attacked Triss. They were making some rape innuendo when he took off. Before he got out of the house, there was a bunch of guys screaming and the smell of burning flesh. She never even bothered mentioning cooking the idiots. Ahh, DA needs that kind of LI.

Hey, I said that two hours ago. :(

... Huh, yeah you did. How did I miss that? =/ Sorry, I blame the nugs.

Ahh. I never saw any of those. Except the one about the cats with Anders. I'm still trying to find that tabby for him.

Spotting Merrill being sarcastic is very difficult, because some times she is just that oblivious.

I just don't think that they'd be in much condition to rape.

Well, that's why we have Varric.

Though, something interesting to note is that, at least in my playthroughs, Merrill is one of the physically toughest of my party, perhaps falling short of only me and Aveline. The wonders of blood magic-oriented stats.

I thought we had Varric because they were obligated to give us at least one party member that doesn't desperately need to see a therapist?

Really? That's odd... mages are always supposed to be the squishiest. And blood mages even moreso since while they have great con they also may be at 35% hp before an enemy touches them and they can't even heal well. Another flaw in the companion armor system I guess.

I'd say Merrill's a few years older than the Dalish Warden. Also, the Warden's age varies since you can make him look older than Fen'Harel himself if you wanted to.

Which would actually be funny to play an old, forgetful, senile Warden who can apparently kill hordes of Darkspawn, demons, undead, Dragons, etc.

I guess shouting "Get off my lawn!" is more powerful than I thought...

She is also approximately the age of Tamlen. You can make your warden look old, but there is not a single origin where that'd make sense.
