Exactly.  It'd be hard as hell to even peg Hawke as a suspect, let alone prove guilt enough to punish.

Well, I never said my ideas on roleplaying it were perfect. And yes, Varnell may have easily been the only thing keeping her safe there. But she still is a Chantry sister who gets promoted to a Revered Mother, so she does have standing with Elthina and the city that Hawke at that time lacks.

Even if she is murdered and Hawke gets away with it....okay, I'm running out of role-playing ideas to make it work.
