- I don't care if there are gay/lesbian options. In fact, I encourage them. I think freedom of choice is a great thing. There is nothing that says what I choose has to be what someone else chooses and that is always good. But my god, why can't I tell Anders I'm not interested without him getting all pissy?

Sorry if I focus on this, but this is where I disagree with you the most. If someone I have feelings for shoots me down, I'll be very upset too. Given Anders' obsessive nature, it's perfectly within his character to be deeply hurt. Rejection ain't fun, esp. if you are in love with the guy/gal shooting you down.

It's more that you're forced into the decision with Anders because unlike the other characters where there is always a "Hit on" option, a "Break Heart" option and a "Keep it Platonic" option, in Anders' case, it's two for Romance and one for Break Heart only. At least, that's how I remember it. It seemed to me that nothing I said previously to him prevented that situation from arising and I think he's the only character this happens for.

One of the devs said a while back that if he had the ability he'd re-write that whole conversation of nothing else than due to the ruckus it caused. I remember when it came about on my first run-through, the HATE-LOVE-LOVE options caught me off-guard. To have it pop-up that way regardless of player input prior to that came across as awkward.

Well i for one found the review funny, He hit most of the points there must be a reason i can't get though Dragon Age 2 but yet still play Dragon Age 1. Last i played Dragon Age 2 it was for the Legacy DLC made it 15 mins and got bored, seemed like more of the same.

Eh, I got up to the bit where he complained about the "real time" mini map (whatever the hell that means) which was in function identical to DA:O's mini map just with a different look and then wandered off.

I found this review to be quite ammusing, if as subtle as a brick to the face.

http://www.ign.com/b...-will-ever-need

Also DA2 = FF13? No. Just no.

Now THAT is a hilarious review!

"What's this story all about?  What happened to the Blight?  Don't tell
me that when they said it was over in the first game they actually MEANT
it?  How can I be expected to invest myself in a fantasy RPG in which I
don't save the world?  Seriously, my self-esteem is so f**king low that
the only way I can feel some self worth is by being a planet-saving
hero in fantasy videogames."

"They've taken the brilliant combat from the first game, screwed it up
into a tight little ball, spat on it, sh*t on it and thrown it down the
toilet, whereupon it has been peed on by all of Bioware's employees.  On
the surface it may seem faster, more responsive, more visually
impressive and generally a lot more fun, but this is NOT TRUE."

Love it :P

Let me put it this way: I adore opera. I listen to Maria Callas every day. My ex hates opera and prefers a different music genre. Does this mean Maria Callas could not sing? (Despite her fame, she polarizes the world of opera and music more severely than DAII ever did the gaming world)

Imagine for a moment Maria Callas was still alive and working today. So you buy her new CD, because you really like her and usually buy all her stuff, and you find out that she pretty much decided to let go of the classic opera and basically started to imitate Lady Gaga, with some opera influences. Why? because she hoped to appeal to a "new" audience aka the Lady Gaga crowd. While her voice is still recognizable, it's argueable if the setup really fits it or does it justice. Also in your opinion the songs aren't that well written. When confronted in interviews with the fact that many of her fans have reacted quite irritated and often dissapointed about the new CD she replies with "they just can't handle change", "I'm aware some of my fans were expecting me to rehash some more Verdi or so", "there a lot of new fans buying my CD, it's definitely a success" and "I will most likely continue with my innovative new musical concepts".

What would be your reaction?

My two problems with a voiced protagonist is that:

1. if you don't like the voice you're screwed.
2. in multiple playthroughs it feels like you're making the same character. e.g., say you want to try and make some gritty badass female warrior in DA2, she'll still have that annoying posh voice where she pronounces every single letter rather than sounding more gruff.

This. I ended up playing two rather similar Hawkes regarding age and appearance, because the voice didn't fit with most of the other characters I created.

This problem wasn't as significant for me in Mass Effect, though - Commander Meer could more easily be applied to a whole lot of different Shepards. Lucky me, I guess.

I do have to admit that Bioware's lack of nudity is odd considering we saw 18 broodmother ****** per each broodmother in both Origins and Awakening.

Dammit it's an M rated game. Show some nudity in a tasteful manner. Broodmothers are not tasteful, though understandable.

They were given a choice, nude companions or nude Broodmothers. Anything else, the ESRB were going to ban the game. After much debating, they wanted to please the fans with Broodmothers.

DAII has its flaws sure, but there were some major upgrades and I would say it still is a good game. If you are still nerd raging, trash talking over this game then you need to get a life. I believe Bioware has already gotten enough consumer reviews and constructive criticisms, i mean common this game has been out for months and months already.

Just enjoy the game for what it is, or better yet stop playing if it angers you so much, and hopefully Bioware releases some more high quality DLCs and does a better job in DAIII.

The original concept art for desire demons had no tassles. I wonder how that would have went over at Fox Snooze.

I think he's a bit too emotionally involved in video games...

And your saying that to the DA 2 Bioware forums haha.
Seriously, I think the way people treat each other and the Bioware developers here shows how emotionally charged and how seriously they take Dragon Age 2. Its a little bit creepy sometimes...but I think all the really bad people have been banned off the forums (like the guy who made the 'we need to ruin Bioware completely and show them that they can't get away with this' thread)

You know the point he made about the characters and NPCs being a gateway into the world really is a good one...

The inability to talk to anyone in the world except for at specific plot points may well be the #1 reason why I was so let down by this game...

ME2 did something similar but at least you could talk to everyone at home base whenever you wanted...

I never connected with the characters in this game or the world for that matter...

Pretty much done to death to the point of being spammish...

...let's give these kind of topics a rest, there are enough legitimate reviews to be wasting time and giving hommage to some foul-mouthed raging review.

Cleaned up my comment.
