And you complaining about ad-hominem is the icing on the cake. Well, it's amusing at least.

Right.... so I'm a child now? How many different ways are you going to ignore my original argument in favor of hurling ad-hominem?

The review is certainly not the most nuanced, but the criticism seems to cover many of the points which have been brought up by people who have disliked DA2.

You people are all evil.

I like you. :wizard: (Shamelessly stolen from the brilliant KOP)

I believe I said "nasty" :D

So you did. OOOOPS. Dammit, the ONE time I want to credit someone.

But folks know you to be awesome either way.<3

In fairness, Origins' maps were linear, but they maintained an illusion of non-linearity. So while it didn't seem like you were just going from Point A to Point B, you were.

And I think that's true for a lot of games really. Not all, but a lot.

@OP- I think this review is what a lot of people would really like to say about DA2. It is enough for me to say that after playing through as male/female Hawke's in all three classes, I don't really want to play the game ever again. AND this is after I downloaded Legacy. Which I haven't played. Money well spent, eh?

As for reviews, Zero Punctuation at The Escapist puts an equally valid if less angry review forward which speaks to the truth of the matter as well.

DA2 was a cash grab. Period.

Anywho, I just finished playing through Mass Effect 1 again and have started my 10th new character imported into ME2...

What argument would that be exactly? It may have been lost between all the tantrums, swearing and juvenile ranting.

Still complaining about ad-hominem, dearie? Oh dear, he can dish it out but not take it. Phew!

Yes, the review is honest (if full of hyperbole and vitriolic). I'm just afraid this thread is going to get locked when some interesting discussion is possible.

Interesting discussion?

I'm more interested in Pwnsaur's juvenile rants.

What blatant lies did he tell? You've made the claim three times now, can you cite one outright falsehood? And a falsehood isn't enough, to qualify as a 'lie' he would have to not only say something false, but -know- it's false.

"Entitled"? I just don't understand why this word is flung around solely in the game industry. If someone buys a car and it has poor handling, and they complain, they aren't 'whiny, entitled brats', they're customers with a legitimate grievance.

If it was, I am damn happy they grabbed my cash. BTW, do try Legacy once you have saved the galaxy again. (Just use old saves) It's worth it.

It was but a light barb, surely such a bastion against political correctness is not so easily offended.

Besides, I was agreeing with you. :innocent:

I have already cited one.

And the comparison doesn't fly in the world of entertainment.

Let me put it this way: I adore opera. I listen to Maria Callas every day. My ex hates opera and prefers a different music genre. Does this mean Maria Callas could not sing? (Despite her fame, she polarizes the world of opera and music more severely than DAII ever did the gaming world)

You have done more than I. I had to force myself to finish a single playthrough and haven't touched it since, as to Legacy, my opinion of DA2 was very low, so Legacy appeared to be proverbial window dressing, rather than fixing anything of fundamental significance in the game. Thus I didn't bother buying it.

You know Chipy, you're all puffed up and full o' bluster. My cousin Mortimer VonTaintstain was like that as well. The way he talked, you'd think he thought he was the most intelligent and wise person to ever grace the planet. I always figured it was his way of making up for spending so much time in the bathroom on account of his chron's disease. After all the times he'd been show he was wrong, he always had to get the last word in. It would have been better to get first step out of there before he was beaten and ended up telling inane stories about how he always made sense. Anyway, to make a long story short, he ended up walking around wearing an ass for a hat. Oddest thing, really.

Cool straw-man argument... Haven't seen one of those since undergrad... good memories... ;)

Argument? I was just telling you about my cousin, Chipy. You didn't have to bring up the straw-man. I think I saw it in a comic once. Scarred me for life. *sniffle*

Speaking of good memories, this reminds me of the time when my good friend Suq Madiq was trying to argue with any woodland creature he came across, even though he didn't have a point. I mean who in there right mind would try compare chirping and other small woodland creature noises with some evil villain? He would go on and on, telling stories without no purpose. It was quite annoying, really. Anyway, to make a long story short, he passed from a fatal case of crotchrot. Poor fellow.

I thought the conversations of NPCs (brought up in both reviews) and PC agency were honest enough conversation pieces.

I doubt that anyone reasonable has ever had a problem with valid criticism, whether it be critical reviews or useful constructive criticism (as opposed to ranting/EA conspiracy theories). I think the only thing that some people might have issues with is the fact that there are those who resort to whinging/ranting in a particularly toxic manner and endlessly moaning about how they've been "betrayed" while they flog a decidedly dead horse. There's a big difference between discussing the game in a reasonable manner and, oh, being immature about it.

I wouldn't call the Escapist ZP review particularly damning, that's just his style. Even though I like the game I found the review amusing enough... and he does make some good points.

OK, lets be civil for a moment...

You said that the video reviewer blatantly lied about there being almost no NPC's to talk to outside of those marked with arrows and ones related to quests. You countered with a paltry example, and I maintained that those examples represented the extreme minority and did not accurately represent the gaming experience as a whole. To this, you replied that you will not acknowledge this obvious and well-documented shortcomming of DA2 because you have greater priorities.

Now, having greater priorities does not preclude you from being able to acknowledge anything. It was an attempt at circumnavigating the point I had made to avoid admitting you were incorrect in calling the reviewer a 'blatant liar.'

That's where we've been for a while now.

Well, I have to say that over the past few months I have been less than thrilled (to put it very mildly) with how Bioware and it's staff have taken honest criticism from it's customer base, but that's another long topic that probably should be discussed at length elsewhere.

I do think you were over the top with the "Lie" accusasation when I pointed out that he and the reviewer might have been technically incorrect but had a larger and generally valid criticism.

On topic:

I really liked the review. I think the venom was a bit tongue-in-cheek, or if not I at least got a chuckle from it. Some decent points were made, and some of the lines were.. if not clever, at least well delivered.
