Hey, I write erotica, and I'm a 30-year-old married mother-to-be. Does that mean I get a pass? -_-

EDIT: And that crack about being "too good" to be a hobbyist is rather rude.  There are many hobbyists that are superb at what they do.  Some of them simply have no designs on going further than that; they prefer to keep writing their "fun" activity, not their bread-and-butter.  Also, published does not automatically equal "good."  (I mean, look at Twilight.)  There's no need to insult other hardworking authors just to put your favorite one up on a pedestal.

Why do I feel that I have entered this thread at a awkward moment.

Man there are some weird fanfics I have read on the mass effect archives though, sometimes I will find myself going "WHAT!" or "WHY THE F*** AM I READING THIS?!"

Mother-to-be? Oh s*** no one ****** her off, shes a ticking time bomb of hormones! Nah just kidding, however I may have ended up doing something to random to comment on...........oh well no one likes a normal person, the mildly insane are the best to hang with. Posted Image

Oh, I'm not saying there isn't plenty of WTF-ery to be had within our fandom. That was never in question.

I have gotten good at identifying WTF fics due to their description and thus avoiding them as of late :P

Eh, what the hell...I'll post mine up here.

http://www.fanfictio...riend_of_a_Hero

I've been on the fence about posting it up here (mostly because I expect the 'die hard' Miranda fans to flip out...and no its not a bashing fic. they just take themselves too seriously.) but why not. Its a bit of a novelization with the addition of an OC (mildly based off of me...just humor and interest wise.). So if you feel like reading it, go ahead and I'll stop putting everything in parenthesis. (or not...)

If it helps, I don't dislike that story because I'm a 'die hard' Miranda fan. I dislike it because your main character is a damn Mary Sue/Gary Stu.

It would help if I'd known how far you've read. If its only the first few chapters, then its understandable as I was still trying to iron out details (and once I finish up the ME2 section then there's some more things I have to take care of). I've done everything I can possibly do to keep the main character on the level with everyone else. He's got his issues, just like everyone else in the story and just because he is the main character doesn't mean he's 'the' character. That's already filled by Shepard (who is a Gary Stu...but that's another argument). My main character's job, in regards to squad interaction is mostly comic relief and the occasional ass kicking. If I wanted to 'ham it up', he'd be a one man army.

Chapter Fifteen expresses my POV beautifully:

Cerberus Dossier for Mark Sears:
-Former Alliance Special Forces, Graduate of N7 Academy (top 5 percentile)
Commendations:
Expert Infantryman Badge
Master Combat Parachutist badge w/ 1 gold star
Expert Marksmanship Badge (3)
Freefall Parachutist Badge
N7 Tab
Infiltrator Tab
Systems Alliance Distinguished Service Medal
Navy Cross
Silver Star (2)
Legion of Merit
Systems Alliance Marine Corps Good Conduct medal (w/ 1 gold star*)
S.A.M.C Expeditionary Medal (4)
S.A.M.C Commendation Medal
Purple Heart (2)
Systems Alliance Unit Commendation
Alliance Golden Arrow (awarded to best snipers)
Other:
-Considered one of the best infiltrators in the modern era. Holds numerous records for kills and infiltrations.
-Only person to ever crack salarian STG Mainframe.
-Mark Sears is considered to be the greatest infiltrator to ever come out of the Alliance.
-Blessed with an innate talent to hack and bypass any system in existence.
-Received numerous commendations in the Alliance and was an elite commander.
-Was part of the operation on Akuze that cost the lives of 50 marines.
-Enemy of Cerberus, responsible for deaths of over 150 operatives. Kill on sight.
-Rumored to be leader of Outer Heaven, a massive information organization.
*received after 5th time

He stares down Jacob? As in, 'Don't take crap from no man alive, unapologetic for his enlistment with Cerberus, weighed twenty pounds at birth' Jacob?

He 'easily gets under Miranda's skin?' I'm not even that much of a Miranda fan, and even I know that she's emotionally impenetrable.

It also doesn't help that he holds out against a year of torture. Or that someone as smart as Miranda wouldn't use truth serums and other advanced interrogation chemicals. If you hand Veetor over to Cerberus he gets pumped full of drugs to induce a lucid and truthful state, why wouldn't they just do that to 'Mark Sears'?

Let me explain to you something about the human mind. It can take a lot of punishment. And I mean, A LOT. But a year of nonstop pain? Your straining credulity there. Hisbrain should have shut down.

Does anyone know of any good fanfics that are more-or-less novelizations of ME1 and/or 2? I ask this because after reading Razor's Edge and the first half of Fight for the Lost (I am planning to finish it when i get the time) I want to find other such works to get different perspectives on the story beyond what i did in the game.

@themark443, ok, if I'm going to be fair, there are FAR worse fics out there. Some of them make me want to go home, curl up in a ball, eat ice cream and watch 'Firefly' to make myself feel better. Subject 23 being the first among them. Yours is...rushed. It just feels too much like your skimming too much through the major plot points.

Agreed on Subject 23...the less said, the better.

I won't argue the last part. I have good days and bad days with each chapter...eventually bad days turn into a week and I just say to myself 'just get it out now'.

I'm a really big fan of...umm fan fiction. Sorry for the wording. But the stories Razor's Edge, Mass Effect Revelations, Reclamation, and Awakening are my four favorite. They are all superbly written, each with their own creative edge. I'm writing one myself, and anyone willing to offer critiques and thoughts on it would help me out a lot.

I find most ME fan fictions disturbing....

Okay, I'll bite: In what way(s)?

Majority of people write about incredibly in depth sexual experiances with characters and well...I just find that slighty disturbing expecially when there was one about a Shepard on Legion FF....

I agree. People on this fandom come up with some freaky stuff. Like, uhm...I saw a picture for Shep/Grunt babies. What? :?

Although, thankfully we can take solace in the fact that we're not the only freaky fandom out there. Have you seen some of the stuff Fallout peeps come up with? My God. XD

*sigh* I hate to admit it, but I'm far too busy/lazy these days to look at new fanfiction, but I still write and I still have my die-hard faves. Made Nightwing is one of them. (You're welcome, Brendan, I'm pimping your stories because I love you so much.) So...it's pretty unlikely that you haven't read him, but he has some damn good stuff. Where Eagles Dare, PREDATORS, Changing Fate, and For the Uniform, For the Cause are definitely my favorites.

drwells123's Recovery is also one of my favorites, it's an AU about Miranda and F!Shep centered around the Lazarus Project. Also, 500 Metric Tonnes of Palladium, his stuff is really quite hilarious. In a good way. It's almost the only time that I've really appreciated Tali-fic.
While we're on the subject of pimping...I think I'm going to also, shamelessly, advertise myself.  I'm writing quite a bit of Mass Effect fanfic lately. My latest is a story centered around pre-game Miranda Lawson, called Young Blood. I don't believe I have a single finished fic on my account besides A Broken Frame, which I guess is semi-generic angst for the Shenko pairing. (Hint, it was my debut in fanfic writing :P)

I've also got a M!Shep/Ashley angst fic, When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes, a fangirl appeal to the Garrus fans with If You Only Knew, and...well, I write my fair share of Lonely Island/Mass Effect crackfics. So...if you're up for it...give it a gander? :3 (Just in case anyone was wondering, I'm a bit of a review ****. To quote KatieKrios. XD)

You'll porbably never see me write any FFs on ME or anything else, I am only good at doing my own original ideas, not already made ideas, maybe its cause I have more freedom with my own stuff.

I was a little late to the party with Manipulations, but I read the whole thing in one night and was pleasantly surprised.  The author has a strong voice and her characters seem fleshed out and believable.

I'd have to say my two ME favorites, though, are The Hundred Year Distance and Torfan.  The first is a wonderfully bittersweet Garrus/F!Shep oneshot, very well written and moving.  I'm not a big fan of the Garrus romance, or fluffy fic in general, but this really struck a cord with me.  I thoroughly enjoyed Torfan for its gritty nature and wonderful voice.  Update Joe.  Update again.

Granted the ME fanficdom is full of questionable material, but there are definitely some gems out there - it's just a matter of finding them.

Really?

I've been perilously close to deleting it for a while, didn't think anybody was interested.

this may double post...  or not...

i've gotta throw in for Supernova by Echo Alexia... its a Nihlus/Shepard fic, and its fantastic.  ....I might be biased though. :D

Also Rain on Virmire which is Nihlus/Saren is also amazing..

and lastly, i'mma join the crowds praising Joe for Gabby n Ken and Grunt n Zaeed.  both are damned amazing and give so muc life to all of the mostly underappreciated characters in the game.

also, while we're here...  anyone know of any good Legion fics?

Here's a new Mass Effect Jack fic, if anyone wants to read it: Inks.

Just something I cobbled together in two hours. Enjoy.
