Commonly know fandom fact: Most fic authors are women.  Especially the erotica writers.  Posted Image

Indeed; and women are commonly supposed to have the more relaxed libido. Ha!

An unfortunately common tactic for women in the past to get some respect.

I stumbled on FanFic after DA2. Most of what I've read has been well written and interesting. The Mass Effect stories I have found to be good at creating characters I can relate to, as well as "filling in gaps" between MEs or storylines. Kudos to all those that take the time to write them!

I'm curious about the response most people have to how the "M" bits of their favorite stories are handled (if you're into the sexy side of things)?

It's among the more difficult things to write well and most fic writers tend to approach from one of too extremes.  Either it's delved into immediately between characters and is exceptionally graphic, using language and descriptors that are less literary and more pointedly vulgar . . .or it's overly precious, sentimental, cloying in its awkwardness and still manages to seem too explicit.

I appreciate hotness.  I do.  But after writing a couple that fell somewhere closer to the smutty side I found this author and was inspired to look for a slightly higher level of maturity in my own fics as well as those I spend the time to read.

So, while I don't insist that all ME fanfic include sex and relationships in some way. . .it is a major component of my love of the game and the stories that have spun from it.  I alway wonder how people from different age groups, genders and sexual preferences percieve these fics.

^ Nice, will you be focusing on this or Inks for now?

And to whoever it may concern: Gabby and Ken and its spinoff will be on hiatus for a little while, as I'm developing a Dragon Age story.

@JLT:

I'm always going to focus on this fic, as I hope to wrap it up by ME3 day, but am currently behind schedule. Inks will only be done when I run into a wall with my main fic.

I preferr my M-rated bits to be unrevealing, leave it to my imagination thank you, or to quote Metallica: "fade to black"...

I was a little late to the party with Manipulations, but I read the whole thing in one night and was pleasantly surprised.  The author has a strong voice and her characters seem fleshed out and believable.

I'd have to say my two ME favorites, though, are The Hundred Year Distance and Torfan.  The first is a wonderfully bittersweet Garrus/F!Shep oneshot, very well written and moving.  I'm not a big fan of the Garrus romance, or fluffy fic in general, but this really struck a cord with me.  I thoroughly enjoyed Torfan for its gritty nature and wonderful voice.  Update Joe.  Update again.

Granted the ME fanficdom is full of questionable material, but there are definitely some gems out there - it's just a matter of finding them.

Late to the party here...but I just had to comment. I just finished reading The Hundered Year Distance, and I nearly cried. That was absolutely amazing! Very well written. I loved it!

I find writing sex like balancing a bb on a razor blade. I will only include sex if it is truly part of the story and pushes the character(s)/relationship/story forward. I've never liked sex for sex sake but it is such a fine line.

I really like this one http://www.fanfictio...16/1/Who_We_Are
I like how other people tackle my favorite pairing Liara x Male Shepard.
I don't care much about femshep though.

Also shameless self ad ^^

But femshep loves you! LOL!!!!

You know I play both genders and love both equally ... but seeing how the Liara thread has so many Femshep/Liara pairings I can see where you would be *facepalm* at it. Posted Image

I understand why people like femshep and everything, especially Liara fans. She has one of the better VOs of the game, but I never could get myself to care about femshep as a character, just not my thing.
However I support all who do :)

I've been writing a story for over two years now. It's pretty crazy how long it's getting, especially considering I'm not even half way through the plot of ME1. The link can be found in my sig for anyone who's interested.

About ffics, the best I found are Fight for the Lost (LuxDragon), Tomorrow's Dawn & For Tomorrow We Die (ElectricZ), Degrees of Inheritance (Elyvern).

I think fan fics can do an excellent job of fleshing out the romances. most of what was going through the characters' minds was left to the imagination and its nice to see depth that some of the authors add to it.

below is a link to my own piece. its a femshep/kelly story that tries to flesh out the characters a bit more and make the relationship seem a bit more natural.

Does anyone know of any good fanfics that are more-or-less novelizations of ME1 and/or 2? I ask this because after reading Razor's Edge and the first half of Fight for the Lost (I am planning to finish it when i get the time) I want to find other such works to get different perspectives on the story beyond what i did in the game.

Well... my Loved is a novelization.  Link's in my sig.  FemShep paragrade.

For a crack-ier take on it, The Double is also a novelization and on the blog in my sig.  I'm also feeling my way through a pre-Shep ME universe in The Swing of Things but that one looks to turn out more short-story length, still about four times longer than I'd intended.

I tend to keep my really M bits for one-shots.  The Double has some Shenko fluff but nothing explicit while The Swing of Things includes no romance at all.  And Losing is FemShep-Thane with no sex and at least a metric ton of angst.

All of mine are AU but none is SI.  Hell, Shep's enough of an SI for me on her own.

I would just like to link my particular series up just for giggles. It's a renegade femshep/liara story. It is...slightly left of canon.

I've produced quite a bit of fan fiction, though more as concepts for new game material than as stories. I rewrote the entire Priority: Earth mission http://social.biowar...ndex/11404188/1 and wrote a highly detailed (Codex articles and everything) concept for a Mass Effect 4 that works with the current endings and does not involve Shepard or his/her descendants (click my signature).

Here's a taste of Priority: Earth

[The Normandy drops out of FTL over London, missiles arc towards several Oculi as they converge on her. The Normandy heads for the Reaper corpse, the camera flys past her side, which is heavily scorched, hull breaches are present throughout, whole panels of armor plate are missing, the word "Normandy" on her side is scarred but visible. The Normandy swoops down over Thames, the water below her boils under her downblast. Her hangar bay door opens, Alliance marines and any squadmates left onboard are providing cover fire. The squad jumps out of the aforementioned hole in the Reaper's side into the Normandy. The Reaper explodes as the Normany speeds away.]

Edit: Oooh, my post is directly below that of the author of Dark Energy... This one is not worthy!

Well I'm of course going to be totally shameless and use this topic to promote my own Fanfics right away. I'm currently writing two Fanfic series that are intertwined first one is "Breaking Points" and the Tie In series is called "Awakening"

I'm attempting to build upon how a romantic relationship would develop between my cannon Jake Shepard (originally named him Jacob back in '07 but BW had to muddy things up with the squad mate Jacob Taylor) and Samara.

This Fanfic has been in the works for sometime. I'd been planing to do it as a way to explore the events between ME2 DLC Arrival and the start of ME3. It become so much bigger once I read the content for Samara in the leaked scripts. Then upon playing ME3 while lets just say the whole project grew into something so much bigger than I had at first thought.

In Breaking Points, I focus heavily on conveying an increasing sense of internal turmoil building within Jake.

In the Spin Off/Tie In series "Awakening" I explore events though Samara's prospective and go places that were never explored in the game.

I'm also not just flying off the seat of my pants when writing this Fanfics I know what I've got planed and an over all outline of what's going to happen, and how things unfold and get there.Like I said I'm focusing heavily on Character Development and conveying the emotions and tension that is building up.

I've been taking my time with these Fanfics, and due to being dyslexic I've been extremely careful to try and catch most all my odd flubs before I upload and publish, that being said I've gone back a read the finished thing later and well I'm not perfect, but no of the things that slipped by where huge and I set to work fixing them immediately.

Any way, If you all want to check me out on Fanfic here is a link to my profile http://www.fanfictio...385/gearseffect

And I always enjoy hearing feedback and constrictive criticism. As for my favorite Fanfics and author's well I always enjoy reading Ashira's stuff and her Fanfic Dreaming after Death is just outstanding. But then again I may be a bit biased given it's a fellow Samaritan's work and Ashira I often find inspiration from.
http://www.fanfictio...ing_After_Death

Then there is of course Fainmaca a true master of the craft, There is just so many great fanfics out there and great writers, I often find the best Fanfics are ones that are written by someone writing for their cannon Shepard, there is just so much real, raw, passion and effort put into it, you can't by that kind of writing it has to come from deep within.
