Perhaps nouveau-Bioware would be more appropriate, given their Canadian heritage.

Still, they've supported modding more than any company I know

then you know not much about modding. still the biggest company in modding support is id software. with every engine they released a developer evironment within the games, dev wikis and after some years even the whole source code of their engine. beat this! :D

epic and crytek releases sdks for free and bethesda ships toolsets and patches constantly . bioware released TWO toolsets and only nwn1's got support. they're by far not that big in modding. actually they're very lacking.

Witty nomenclature aside this thread, much like another recent thread, isn't actually generating much in the way of constructive discussion.  It seems most people posting are resigned to accepting that we are, as far as the toolset is concerned, pretty much on our own. Sometimes that can be a good thing as it motivates people to find their own solutions instead of sitting around waiting for BioWare to fix things. However there is also a danger that if we don't keep trying to convince BioWare to remain involved then it becomes a fait accompli.

NWN v1.69 happened because Brian Chung and Craig Welburn championed it and were prepared to devote much of their spare time to it along with various members of the NWN community. Who is to say that we couldn't convince Rob Bartel, Bryan Derksen, Allan Smith, Craig Graff and the like to do something similar? Jeff Rousell and some nameless DBA at EA have already helped me with updating and extending the Toolset Wiki's software.

Given what Fernando has said about wanting/hoping to do another toolset for a later installment of the Dragon Age franchise I think there is still a chance for us to convince BioWare that it is in their interest to continue to support the modding community even if it is only semi-officially (like NWN v1.69). What better way to get a head-start on an end-user DA3 toolset, for example, than to having an active and experienced DA:O community to draw on?

Anyway I just thought we could use this thread to identify the issues that can only really be resolved by BioWare and which, ideally, would have the greatest impact for the least amount of work. Similarly we could use thread to look at the benefits an active modding community would bring to DA2, DA3, etc.

I'll get the ball rolling: releasing the Awakening and DLC resources (art, design and data).

That would be hugely awesome!

Isn't a bunch of that already available in projects on the site (like the one that adds Awakenings talents to Origins)?

releasing as per: updating the toolset in order to support them?

other possible points...
-fixing bugs in the toolset itself
-allowing deletion of custom modules
-accurate viewing of creature statistics (Hp, attributes etc) and adding a modifier for actual editing

I agree with SJ however: once we have the RIGHT tools for editing every aspect of origins the community will be extremely active again, like for the ever-fabled nwn.

EDIT: another issue: unlocking the GUi in all its aspects, such as not being able to display specializations unless in mutiples of 4.

EDIT: another thing, Bioware could remove all capped values (like elemental resistance or armor penetration, capped at 41 (?) ) and generally all hardcoded things.

the user who complained about lack of official support is right tho. devs answer at lightning-like speed to questions like "are you developing the third game?" and no one posted here.

EDIT2: too bad the person who wants "constructive talking" starts to block people... yeah SJ I'm looking at you.

I cannot find the license agreement of the toolset, does anyone know if EA/Bioware's license agreement prevents the modification of their software in any way?
