I just noticed that the Ultimate Edition is available on Steam for just 29.99, and it includes Awakening and the additional content packs.  Rather than buying them all separately, I'd rather just grab it from Steam all at once, but since I've been playing on a retail version of Dragon Age Origins, will my characters, achievements, etc carry over if I reinstall from Steam?

Has anyone tried this before?

I went the other way: Steam digital deluxe to DA:UE retail. It picked up my saved games just fine. Just backup the My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age folder before you uninstall one version and putting in the other.
