If he were to suffer a tragedy such as Kolyat dying, do you think he would still want to continue to actually aid you in ME3? I ask only if you haven't romanced Thane because most people who have would say that Thane would want to stay to be with their Shepard if they had a romance. But if you haven't, I don't know if he would feel compelled to stay. Shepard may be his friend, but maybe Thane wouldn't make the same kind of commitment to a friend when he's dealing with ideas of his own morality and lost family.
Furthermore, if Thane was actually on the Normandy with you and asked to leave the team permanently due to such matter, would you let him? Or would you make him follow through to the very end?
Assuming you haven't romanced Thane...

I think he would continue to help Shepard. He may be sad but he wouldn't let the universe just die plus he might need revenge!
If he wanted to leave I would let him. His not part of the Alliance or Cerberus and he joined voluntarily in ME2 anyway.

If you have his loyalty, why not?

Think he'd stay.
Nothing left to live for, nothing to lose.
Think he'd rather die fighting reapers than because of his disease.
But I'd let him go if he wanted to leave.

I doubt he would leave Shepard, even with his son alive. I would bet he would rather, fight to make sure his son has a world to live in, then just laying in a bed, leaving it in someone else' hands.

Does anyone really care? I look forward to seeing him die in 3; in fact the only reason I didn't let him die in 2 is to see how it ends for him in 3, otherwise he'd join the ranks of Kaidan and Jacob in "always killed on every shepard."
