The fact that any class can wield any weapon just seems silly to me. What would be the point in using anything other than an Assaut Rifle and a Sniper?

Okay then, add shotguns, but what's the point of using a pistol and SMG?

and most AR's work fine CQC

I'm a Soldier, I don't have to choose what to carry 'cause I'm a MF'ing walking tank.

Simple. I play Vanguard. My weapons load out consists of a Shotgun, A Sniper Rifle, and a Nuclear Hand Cannon. Why? Because if I can't Charge, someone, then I REALLY enjoy watching their head jerk back when I put a round between their eyes. As for the M920 Cain, I refer you to Rule 37 from The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Pirates. There is no "overkill." There is only "open fire" and "time to reload."

I just like to kill things with whatever is possible. I would pick up Miranda and throw her at the Reapers like a javelin if I could, so I don't see why I should ONLY use those weapons. People have different preferences than others.

My vanguard will not use any assault gun, shotgun and maybe a sniper for some precision kills.

The Locust machine pistol, the Geth Plasma Shotgun... or for Vanguards, any shotgun... Heavy Pistols are also easier to use than snipers for non-sniper classes, so they're still good choices for armor-stripping.

Assault Rifles are only good all-purpose weapons, but are mediocre otherwise when dealing with protections.
Exception being a Soldier with the accuracy upgrade on their Revenant, or the OP 'mash the fire button and make it die instantly' Mattock ...which will probably be balanced properly in ME3.

The point of using SMGs is because they are a lot more effective agaisnt shields/barriers, the problem is that in ME2 the best one for that (Tempest) also had a lot of recoil. The pistol is very situational and in my opinion worse than an assault rifle with some anti-armor ammo. Frankly the pistol should be more of a backup weapon than a real "combat" weapon.

Assault Rifles and Shotguns are all I need. Especialy if they bring back the Geth Shotgun, that thing was like a sniper rifle anyhows. Never liked the Claymore too much.

SMG works really well against barriers and shields, if I recall right. So there is a reason to use them.

Pistols?... Dunno! I guess for "cool" factor?

I hope the Claymore comes back. Claymore Vanguard is so much fun to use. :)

You pansy snipers and AR users can sit there behind cover and pick off enemies one by one... I'll be biotic charging across the entire battlefield with only a single round in my shotgun. I say good day!

Eh? What about shotguns.
Or why not run around with only a pistol?

That would be more accurate if you're going for efficiency.

Once the firepower pack came out, I no longer use the sniper rifle for anyone other than my soldier and my infiltrator who have that weapon by default anyways. The Mattock is a borderline sniper rifle as it is when you get the accuracy upgrade. It's practically too powerful, a virtual win button. My roommate just recently started playing again after a long hiatus and he downloaded it and he actually went back to using the default weapons because the Mattock made the game too easy in his opinion.

First ever play through I was an infiltrator class.  I like to snipe enemies but I also like to sneak up and punch mercs to death .  I am looking forward to using the omni-blade for some stealth kills, which is one of my faviourite tactics while playing Crysis 2.

Or maybe it made no sense how one of the galaxies best and most highly trained soilders couldn't use an assault rifle, shotgun and sniper rifle. Also you've never used the Phalax or Locust have you?

The Phalanx is awful...... I much prefer the Predator or Carnifex. And the Locust is good, but I'll take a Mattock or Revenant over it any day.

Ah yeah? I like to use the default assault rifle. It feels like the correct weapon for Shepard.

Same thing for Predator-pistol. I just pefere it.

My Vanguards like their shotty up close and their SR for those pesky targets who can't be charged at.

I guess I cheat somewhat as I use the Mattock but I do that more based on I just like how it sounds than it being overpowered.  I like the "handcannon" you get from Mordin.  Good damage, easy to aim.  The FIrepower pack pistol does lots of damage too but for some reason I was suffering from a learning curve of sorts trying to aim the laser sight on it.  I got used to it but I prefer the simplicity of the handcannon crosshair.
