No reason to play any other class if you can now go biotics running around with soldier weapons. They've been eroding the class system since ME2.

Wrong; Soldiers will still have the highest weapon damage potential and AR...nothing comes close to that with weapons...

You are aware that the pistol in ME1 did way more DPS than the AR*, right? Just because ME2 was different doesn't mean the balance will remain th same in ME3. Epecially not against all enemies.

But it doesn't matter if Biotic classes can use Assault Rifles now.

Soldiers also took a nerf with the gutting of armor types. I hope they bring that back, at least for variety sake.

I hope the new N7 pistol is as good as the Phalanx,I'm too much of a gunslinger to not use a pistol,as a vanguard the phalanx made up for not having ranged weapons, another thing is some people like their Shepard look sleek, without a ton of crap on them.

Also,I'm sure we have all seen that pick with 4 of the new guns,ARs are going to look completely awesome,so if those are any indication of the smgs,I think we will be pleasantly surprised, also since you can mod guns you could potentially double your mag on the Locust and you now have an smg as good as any AR.

The fact that any class can wield any weapon just seems silly to me. What would be the point in using anything other than an Assaut Rifle and a Sniper?

Maybe you should ask a soldier or something.

May I ask which mods you have installed in aforementioned Claymore to make it so awesome?

A barrel mod (increased damage) and a new mod that I probably shouldn't talk about just yet... but it's not really what you might think of as standard, and it works very well against groups of enemies.

It's a hard choice though, since there's also a really nice melee upgrade you can get...

A bayonet for the Shotfun you say? I like this.

On-topic: Bioware said that pistols pack more of a punch and have quick reload times, plus the Phalanx is a great side arm, as is the carnifex. SMGs are overall great for any situation, they have large clips like the tempest and are good against shields. If an enemy gets close range when someone has a tempest, they can be down before you know it. And finally, shotguns, shotguns, shotguns. Shotguns are one of the best weapons in the game, hands down, play as a vanguard and try out the shotgun. It's a lot of fun.

Well ar is the only thing soldiers have going for them now, since heavy armor is gone and anyone can use any type of weapon. They've lost most of their uniqueness.

Well...not exactly. The classes in ME1 were not varied between each other. I was recently playing a vanguard and chose singularity as my power...might as well played my adept. All the squaddies felt...repetitive. It was rather frustrating and it didn't matter who you brought on the team.

Vanguards can't select singularity in ME1 unless it's a bonus power. Bonus powers are by definition, beyond the scope of the class design, intent, and balance.

I mean, that's kind of like saying Soldier is OP because when it has singularity you don't need a biotic user with you. Which is a silly rationale; the soldier isn't normally intended to have singularity. You get it as a reward for a gameplay achievement.

Yes, but if I'm playing vanguard...I want to feel like I'm playing a different class. I was just making a comparison about how similar they are...basically a single power that makes them really different. You can take a bonus power in ME2 - that doesn't mean anything. They actually made the classes different. If you're a vanguard you KNOW you're a vanguard. The classes are distinctly different in ME1 compared to ME2.

Is there an increased Magazine size mod for the Claymore?  If I can get three shots out of that baby, I swear I'll ****can my Evicerator.  Heck, two shots, and I'd be tempted.

Ammo. Rate of fire vs. range considerations. Abilities against other protections. Effects on the speed of melee attacks.

You know, the reasons why SMGs and pistoles exist today, and soldiers don't go around with just assault rifles and sniper rifles.

An infiltrators scope comes with two modes: "up close and personal" and "hello, you're dead", we like to snipe things even at point blank range, because we can!

Seriously, I never change from the sniper unless it runs out of ammo. Take two steps back, zoom in on their ugly nose and BAM, they're missing one head.

I don't really see the point in taking pistols along. Unless their functionality has been increased for ME3.

I dunno... the point for some of us is probably 'cause the Phalanx was easy to aim at extreme distances (it was like a vanguard sniper rifle for me anyways) and had VERY high damage/shot or that the Carnifex had very good dps.

Vanguards will always choose shotguns as one of their weapons, for it is the weapon that best suits their combat style and it is exciting. Infiltrators could probably use shotgun too, as cloaking and then reappearing behind an enemy and shotgunning them sounds fun.

Well, they received a power called Adrenaline Rush, which is arguably the most powerful skill in the whole game (no disrespect to vanguards, but I think AR is far more damaging than charge). If it stays like that, soldier will still be the class that can be the most dangerous for the enemies.

Well, I for one can say that on my first playthrough with my infiltrator, I am going to use exactly that combination because that is what he used in ME1 and 2 already so it is consistent.
However, with other characters I am going to use other weapons because of the different play-stiles. I mean vanguards just NEED a shotgun in any case, sentinels without heavy pistols are not sentinels and soldiers got everything anyway (even grenades :), Jayne quote: "I'm getting all excited about choice.").
So yeah, different weapon sets are good, fun and useful but I agree, my personal favourite is the AR/SR combination as well.
