I see that a lot of the avatars folks have chosen, seem to be from their personal games, or not. In any case, the avatars are different from the ones offered when you go to the 'change profile photo' section. How do you go about getting and inputing this expanded selection?

There's a drop-down above the avatar list to change avatar category.

You can also select profile pictures from the game characters you've created, offering you a wide variety of custom characters that no one else would otherwise have.
