Because WE ARE HUMANS. You are human. Shepard is human. THAT alone is reason enough to put humanity first when it comes to saving the galaxy.

Save your own ass before you (can) save anyone else.

Seriously, NOT saving humanity first is basically just shooting yourself and your own species in the foot. It's a huge F*CK YOU towards your entire own species. Do you really want to betray your own species?

If YOU (Commander Shepard) won't stand up for humanity, WHO ELSE will?

Should I save America over Europe?

If you're American, then yes. I would save Europe first because I'm European.

Anyone who says I would save humans just because I'm a human (even if I say otherwise) is simply injecting their beliefs on my personality.

Bullcrap and you know it. NOT puting your own species first is simply unnatural. Just look at mother nature. EVERY species in existence looks out for their OWN kind first before they look out for other species (if they look out for other species at all).

This.

If saving the Asari and sacrificing humanity meant stopping the Reapers and saving countless more lives, then I would would without hesitation.

I don't see why the humans are any more deserving of being saved than the Asari. Should I save America over Europe? Should I save Texas over New York? I would try to save them both. If I could not, I would save which ever one I had the greatest chance of saving. If they had an equal chance, I would save which ever one had the greatest chance of rebuilding galactic civilization... which I think would be the Asari. Anyone who says I would save humans just because I'm a human (even if I say otherwise) is simply injecting their beliefs on my personality.

It's not really about deserving to be saved.  To put it in that sense makes it sound like there are criterion upon which to judge all the races, which there are not (unless you happen to be a Reaper...)

But ask an Asari if she would sacrifice the last of her species for only the expressed purpose of saving another species, even if her own has a chance to survive by neglecting the other.

If it came down to one simple choice - sacrifice Humanity or another species (both equally capable of rebuilding after the war), which one would you (as a human) pick?

I think of it kind of like what Ash said in ME1 -- if you ran into a bear, as much as you love him, you would tell your dog to sic it and run for your life.  It doesn't quite apply equally, but the chance to continue your own way of life seems (to me) to be a pretty important reason to want to save your own species.

Hell yes. They are, tech-wise, millennias closer to ascension than us, and I think they have more to add to the galaxy.

What a very close minded view of the world you have. I should save America just because I'm American? What if I have a greater chance of saving Europe? Should I just ignore that? What if America does not have the better chance of rebuilding afterward and dies out anyway? Oh well? Guess it does not matter because I was born here. What a fine way to judge things by. I was born on this rock instead of that rock, so this rock is much more important. I will save this rock no matter what, even if I have a better chance of saving the other rock. Even though the other rock is much more valuable to the world as a whole.

I was born with hair instead of a tentacle head, so obviously anyone with hair is much more important... My way of life and my people are so much more important than your way of life and your people because I'm selfish. Is that what you are trying to say I beleive? Because I don't.

Oh I must be full of it because I don't see the world the way you do, and that is just not possible.<_<

odd... because if my cat was trapped in a burning house, I would risk my life to save it. If a bear were chasing my I most certainly would not send a dog I loved to hold if off. That statement is one of the reason I really do not like her. We would both run, or we would both fight. I would never sacrifice something I loved and cared about just to save my own skin.

As for if everything was completely equal? Thankfully that is never the case. One race would have a greater chance of survival than the other, and I would chose that one. If in the strange event that everything was completely  equal, I would save which ever race had more people. That way I could say I save the most lives I could.

Yes, humans aren't exactly what I'd call deserving and the Asari seem to want to maintain balance.

That would depend on the situation if for example humanity had a 10% chance of survival and asari have 50% the asari are the obvious choice.

Are you really comparing the asari to animals?

Hey, just imagine yourself being the only human survivor and absolute hero in the new all asari universe ... I mean, who wouldn't be tempted :).

But the answer is still no. Humanity has to survive somehow.

You totally miss the point.

America v.s Europe is a bad analogy to begin with. This is about the survival of your species!

A home, if destroyed, is replacable. We can replace homes. We can replace cities. We can replace entire nations. But we CANNOT replace a species.

Would you save your own child over a random other person? Yes.
Would you save your own species over a random other species? Yes.

To say you wouldn't answer "yes" to both questions is simply a lie. I'm 100% sure the answer is "yes" to the first question and I'm 100% sure the answer would be "yes" to the second question if Mass Effect was real.

Looking out for your own species =/= selfish you idiot (sorry, but if you honestly think looking out for my own species is selfish than you deserve to be called an idiot).

In fact, looking out for your own species is far from selfish. Again: If Commander Shepard doesn't look out for humanity, who else would?

The ONLY exception to the rule is when you KNOW your own species has no chance to survive but another species MIGHT survive. ONLY THEN I'd say it's reasonable to sacrifice what's left of humanity to save the other species.

The flaw in your thinking is that non-human animals do what you say from instinct, humans can rationalize. Other than that, this is turning into another Posted Image
