If there's an impact than we can only see it really in ME 3. But I think that it will be helpful for Shepard, if he saved the council. The moment the Reapers are attacking the council can't ignore that anymore. So they have to believe Shepard and that's much easier if you (Shep) have saived their lives previously.

Sorry I posted it twice. Please delete this post.

You know what's "silly"? Saving the DA - and still having to gain the loyalty of the Turians, Salarians, and Asari. The Council should just say - "This threatens galactic life - the Citadel races stand with you Shepard."

You aren't winning their loyalty, though. You're resolving their immediate problems that stop them from acting beyond their own immediate concerns.

The Turians can't send their forces from their homeworld while the Reapers are on it. The Salarians have an immediate priority of dealing with the Krogan for the entire war effort. Etc. These are not reluctant allies, but allies preoccupied.

Confusing 'convincing' for 'enabling' is silly.

If you want to talk about "punishment" or "fairness" or whatever Renegade option we're whining about now - look at that, because it's completely 'unfair' that proving yourself an upholder of galactic hegemony (potentially) counts for nothing.

Since that's not why they aren't helping you at the moment...

Anyone who chooses any race over they're own is a traitor and a fool. Yeah, I said it! and it's true!

Would the Asari, Turian, Salarian do the same? No.

Just because Humanity is young and underappreciated does not mean we need to sacrifice to prove ourselves and enjoy they're freedoms. Even if we sacrifice to save the council we are treated like children and are pushed around.

They don't deserve our love and help. Humanity walks alone and people still carter to them like babies suckling a poisoned ******.

They'll never go out of they're way to help us, so neither will I. Everyone who does is a blind fool and it shows in the real world they are spineless cowards who love those whop do not love back.

Yeah I agree with that, the decision to save or not DA was screwed. I think they honestly made a mistake there, or couldn't finish their vision on what should have happened. If shepard calls for saving DA, this should be "painful" for the player, for instance the existence of another cutscene where we see more ships blowing up against Sovereign than the alternative because they were weaker opponents.

And I also expect more of the same bull in ME3, it's just too much to ask from these people I guess.

Humans not having animosity towards Shepard for sacrificing Alliance ships to save the Council/DA or the Rachni decision having no impact on the Krogans perception of him/her tells me that the devs don't put that much thought into the outcomes or take it all that seriously.

I actually wouldn't mind this; I think it would be an interesting look at the Alliance to see where they might be irked at me instead of saying that basically everything I do is for the Alliance's sake, and I couldn't give less of a crap about what the krogan think.

@Dean_the_Young: You can't know that unless you've played the game.

Yes, I'm aware you'll have to save their respective homeworlds (and I don't even know this - perhaps some homeworlds will not be in trouble) - that wasn't what I was talking about. I'm talking about the Council. If (and again, there's no way for me to know this) I have to gain their loyalty in ME 3 - it will be a "punishment" to anyone who saved them.

IF the Salarians, Turians, or Asari have ANY problems with Geth, Krogan, or Rachni - and the Council does not make them obey and I have to win their loyalty (again, situations that are not seen) - then saving or letting the Council die was just another meager tweak to an otherwise static storyline.

====

@ThePwener: I am most certainly a "traitor and fool". Though I confess to saving the Earth biosphere before any other - but it has little to do with humanity.

My Shepard grew up in the acid cesspools of Earth - an Earth humans turned rancid. A few billion less talking monkeys would do the Earth a wellspring of good. I should be thanking the Reapers.

Why shouldn't your Shepard be "punished" for saving the Council?

Didn't say it shouldn't happen that way - having my plans go poorly doesn't make me cry like a petulant child.

Just pointing out that it could be a punishment that occurs that would diminish this "fairness" nonsense.

I am interested in what the developer thinks about the outcomes of my actions - I don't need to be rewarded with every choice I make to feel like I'm clever.

Yes she does. And no, she doesn't.

Insults devalue your own argument, and do nothing else.

Like a lot of renegade dialogue options Saphra expresses tough love. It's subtle but you can see it if you use your brain a little.

@Dean_the_Young: You can't know that unless you've played the game.

There happens to be this wonderful concept called 'spoilers' that are given by 'previews' which show parts of a game or medium before its release, or can include creator commentary of the game as it is being made.

Now, understandably you might be in ignorance in them. But they do exist.

Yes, I'm aware you'll have to save their respective homeworlds (and I don't even know this - perhaps some homeworlds will not be in trouble) - that wasn't what I was talking about. No it won't: a punishment has to be a change to the established norm, not the norm itself. It's either an added negative (something detrimental) or the removing of a intended positive (removing what is supposed to be good). Doing story missions to help other races and recruit allies for the liberation of Earth is the norm for the game, not the result of one choice or another.

The only standard by which NOT having to do the normal story missions is a standard of your own creation, and nothing else. You might as well claim that you not being made King by default is punishment.

IF the Salarians, Turians, or Asari have ANY problems with Geth, Krogan, or Rachni - and the Council does not make them obey and I have to win their loyalty (again, situations that are not seen) - then saving or letting the Council die was just another meager tweak to an otherwise static storyline.

That's a pretty silly standard, considering all four of those groups (Council, Krogan, Rachni and Geth) have fought eachother to extreme lengths.

My Shepard grew up in the acid cesspools of Earth - an Earth humans turned rancid. A few billion less talking monkeys would do the Earth a wellspring of good. I should be thanking the Reapers.

Good old sociopathy. Got to love it.

You're on the internet. Verbal sarcasm doesn't translate (as you just proved).

When you want to show tongue in cheek, use smilies or outright note the tone you are using.

It doesn't bode well for forumites if I have to use a smiley to indicate I'm not being serious like that one time I had someone believing I was sincere in my comparison of TIM to Mother Teresa.....
