I want humanities role in the galaxy to be much like the United States,we are all equal..until you mess with us in which case we will grind you into the ground.
I want Humanity to be like the United States too. But not in the way you described. In case you forget, let me remind you of:
Spanish-American War
Phillipine-American War
American Occupation of Nicaragua, Cuba, Panama, Haiti, Domincan Republic, Honduras
Korean War
Vietnam War
Gulf War
Iraq War
None of these remotely support the imperialist position you think the Systems Alliance should take in the post-war period.
The last four are closer to what Shepard is trying to build in ME3: a multi-national effort to achieve a strategic objective. The third was attempting to contain trouble in ones "backyard", which the Systems Alliance was partly created to do. The second was closer to what Shep did in some of the side quests in ME1 (Cerberus, biotic terrorists, etc. acting up in Alliance territory or threatening Alliance interests). And the first example was the result of an act of war (See: First Contact War).
If anything, the historical examples you provided prove that the United States is more like the Systems Alliance as it currently stands. Not a hypothetical group of post-Reaper War "enlightened imperialist" (aka: the British Empire of the 18th and 19th Centuries, or United States during the "Manifest Destiny" era).
I think it would be in the Alliance's best interests to lend a helping hand, and attempt to get help in return (Hearts and Minds, "You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours"). Playing dirty little diplomatic and military games, in the long run, will hurt more than help Earth, the Alliance, and Humanity in general.
We hang together, or we hang seperately.
