What is the galaxy's most important resource? Element Zero.

Where is this resource most concentrated? Thessia.

This is the cornerstone of the Asari dominance of Galactic economy and politics - they can single-handed control the price of Element Zero via effective monopoly. This is also very likely the environmental cause for the Asari's abundant Biotic potential, and the material source of their cultural arrogance and sense of superiority. If Humanity take over Thessia, all those advantages will be ours. Now is a best time to do that ever.

How can Humanity take control of this resource rich location? Simple. Sacrifice the Asari to defeat the Reapers. All of them. Let Thessia be burnt do the ground. In the resulting post-war power vacuum, Humanity can rightfully resettle Thessia, as the vanquisher of the Reapers and the savior of the Galaxy.

Karl Marx had summarized that all wars are fought for economic reasons. The Carthaginian Empire fought to monopolize the trade of dyes in the Mediterranean. The Dutch Republic fought to monopolize the trade of spices in the East Indies. A certain country in the early 21st century fought to monopolize the trade of oil in the Middle East. Controlling an important resource is essential for the independence and prosperity of a nation.

So fellow Humans, now is our time to take our rightful place in the Galaxy. In the immortal words of Cato the Elder,

Thessia Delenda Est!

The real threats to humanity in a post Reaper universe are the Krogan and, potentially, the Rachni.

If not totally destroyed, the Krogan will be eventaully be cured by someone - and, while a healthy galaxy could probably handle them, in a situation where the other races have been beaten down by the Reapers their rapid reproduction will make them pretty much unstoppable. Except perhaps by the Rachni, who have gone from one queen to apparently building their own space going vehicles in 2 years.

It's attitudes like that that will lose the war and allow the Reapers to continue the cycle of genocide and destruction. The Reapers are not coming for our resources. They have no need of them. They are coming to annihilate every living being in the galaxy. This was isn't about humanity. It is about ALL species, human and alien.
We don't even know if we can defeat the Reapers. The best we might be able to do is put up a valiant fight to the end. A selfish "human first" attitude will ensure the Reapers will win. We cannot possibly hope to defeat the Reapers if we are secretly trying to carry out our own agenda. That attitude makes us no better than TIM.
I am all for humanity being a power in the galaxy. However, to defeat the Reaper menace we MUST focus all our energy on finding a way to defeat the Reapers. Wasting time and energy on our own agenda will surely lead to failure. No race will be sacrificed unnecessarily.

This thread is so full of win! i woke up this morning and saw it, and i can't help but smile at all the people that are shouting 'well ill be fighting against you on the side of the asari,' and trying to correlate OP's idea with a real world equivalent action...

Asari cultural influence on us and other species is a bad thing because it seeks to weaken us so that the asari can gain an advantage over us.

So I sorta had a look around and it seems that the genral consensus is that asari aren't that good in a war. Admittedly having a galaxy ruled by a militarily orientated government would be dull. Just imagine the inhibition for game developers and cake shops.

You know there are many more Asari than humans in the universe, don´t you? Even with their home planet destroyed, there´ll probably still be more than enough to have a say in politics...
And even if Humanity emerges victorious in all this, it won´t last long (like with every empire).

I don't know about that. If the krogan have a bone to pick with anyone, it's going to be the original three Council races, salarian and turian in particular. The krogan and humanity don't really have much in the way of formal contact going on.

As for the rachni, if they pose a galactic threat again it will be because Shepard spared the queen. Somehow I don't think they'd just forget or overlook that, unless everything we've been shown about them is wrong and misleading. Which would kind of be a dick move by the writers.

Sure if reapers can indocrinate the Rachni again, they might pose a treath. But that's my mess to clean and another fun mission!

The Krogan don't need to have bone to pick with you. They didn't have any bones to pick with the Asari and Salarians after the Rachni wars, except that they're naturally aggressive and their fast breeding makes them expansionist.
With the galaxy lieing prostrate before them after the Reapers, it's hard to see them not take advantage.

In the short and medium time frame, the Rachni would be expected to be friendly towards humanity. But they're territorial, and expand incredibly fast, which makes it likely we'll clash eventually over colony rights or something similar - and if this is after a century or two, they're liable to be terrifyingly strong when we do.

Even if both species are friendly, their presence would make any renegade dreams of "human dominance" a hollow joke.

Eh, you made it sound like each would be singling out humanity specifically. In the scenarios you present they're as much a threat to everyone else as they are to humans.

No one is claiming racial superiority, simply self-interest.

Superiority is the rhetoric but self interest is the objective and often they are intertwined.
