First off, let me say that I apologize if there's already a topic specifically related to this. I've been searching the Bioware forums as well as the internet in general, and I've found a lot of helpful threads on how to mod DA2. However I've yet to find any (simple) tutorials on what I'm trying to do specifically.

I'm not looking to completely overhaul DA2. I'm simply looking for a way to swap textures on a few in-game items, or perhaps create new items, specifically armor.  The thing is, I want to play a warrior, but I like the mage champion armor so much more than its warrior counterpart.

Basically, all I'm looking to do is either:

A.) Change the warrior champion armor's texture to the mage version.

OR

B.) Simply create a new set of warrior armor, with the mage champion armor textures.

If anyone could give me a simple how-to on how I would go about doing this, or even refer me to another thread related to this, I would be extremely grateful.

I'm sure what I'm trying to accomplish isn't complicated at all, I just need some help getting started.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to DA2 modding! Option A is very easy, and a great place to start if you want to learn. If you don't want to learn, there's already a mon on the nexus that does this :)

Option B is a lot more complicated, but certainly doable, I just wouldn't start with something like that.

Here's a link to the mod that swaps all champion armour to the mage version, if you want to learn how to do it yourself, reply in here and I'll give you some directions :)

Thanks a lot!

Edit: Just downloaded and installed that mod. Works like a charm!

Alright, I was able to swap the warrior armor models to the mage ones and I'm loving it.

I was messing around with the editor and thought I would try and swap the model of my current weapon (a 2hander) with that of the Staff of Parthalan. In case you haven't figured this out yet, my goal is essentially to make Hawke look exactly as he does in the "Destiny" trailer, only as a warrior instead of a mage.

Anyway, I was able to change the models of my weapon, only instead of just making my greatsword look like a staff, it "acts" like a staff as well. In other words, my warrior Hawke is shooting fireballs and can't use any of his 2hander abilities.

So, is there a way to simply change the look (model) of a weapon without changing it's classification (as a greatsword) and combat animations?

Thanks in advance.

what exactly did you change? Did you change the model variation in the greatsword uti file, or in the item variations? Or something else?

All I did was change the TEMPLATERESREF of the greatsword to that of the staff. I was following the instructions in this topic.

Ok, by changing the templateresref, the game is now overwriting the greatsword with the staff model, behaviour, everything. This isn't a problem if you use the same class of item, but swapping a greatsword for a staff would produce these problems.

I've never tried substituting a different item class model on something, but the best way I can think of to do it (ie one that only changes model, not behaviour) would be to edit the model number in the greatsword uti file.

The staff's model number is (I'm pretty sure) 5800. I'm at work, but if I get a chance, I'll put some directions up.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks for all the help by the way.

Also, what is the best way to go about requesting a mod? Specifically an armor retexture.
