according to the lore, dwarf are unable to do magic because they don't dream. yet the funny thing is, when going through the broken circle quest, dwarf warden entered the fade. can anyone come up with a explanation? also if dwarf don't dream, certain part of the story, he won't be able to dream or hear the archdemon isn't it? i find it quite a contradiction. would someone enlighten me?

Mysterious, isn't it? Apparently, dwarves aren't as cut off from the Fade as you might think...

Everyone enter the fade when they dream, dwarves don't, that dosen't neccessary mean that they cannot enter the fade if say someone else forces them to enter it, like in the broken circle quest.

I'm not sure that it says that dwarves don't dream at all, but even if they can't maybe they can still hear the archdemon when they sleep even if they don't have other normal dreams.

Gippe3r is right.

Although Dwarves don't naturally enter the fade while they dream like other races, it doesn't mean they can't be forced into it.

And the Archdemon visions aren't normal dreams, as they are directly connected to the Archdemon and have nothing to do with the fade. So your Dwarf Warden can still have that 'dream' after Lothering.

Perhaps the Joining ritual causes the necessary changes in a dwarf Warden.

But good question. I can't recall any codex entry that answers it. But then again I can't recall many of the codex entries.

I noticed several things during the Broken Circle quest that struck me as quite odd, besides the dwarf/Fade bit.

First, I noticed that much of the gore covering the third and fourth floors of the tower was very similar to the kind of stuff you see covering the Tower of Ishal and the Dead Trenches - Morrigan even commented on it, saying it was similar to "darkspawn corruption" and wondering if it was related somehow.

Furthermore, in the room just before you go up the stairs to the fourth floor, there are three Tranquil gathered in the center of the room. Despite the Tranquil supposedly being cut off from the Fade (and thus impervious to becoming abominations), a demon was transforming the Tranquil into abominations anyway.

So it seems that there's a lot that the citizens of Thedas think they know - but apparently they're quite wrong.

Dwarves Dream, they are just naturaly cut off from the fade.
They can be forced into the fade though by powerful beings.
(Bring Ohgren with you next time when you do the circle quests, makes specific notes about this)

Dwarves can also be forcefully possessed and can even learn Blood Magic.

Tranquil are cut off from the Fade, this does not mean they are immune. A Powerful spirit who physicaly force them to be possed.

This is because the easiest and most common form of possession is done through the Fade into the mortals mind.
If the demons are already actualy there in reality that barrier dosnt exist.

Read up on Dragon age demons on the wiki, particularly the Shade.

Dwarves don't dream. Oghren specifically says this in Awakening. "Dwarves don't dream, we sleep like the stone!" he says.

Also, how can dwarves learn Blood Magic, if they can't even do regular magic?

From the Dragon Age: Origins musical...

(Exit BERAHT and JARVIA)

NATIA:
(Spits after them.)

LESKE:
Come on, let's get to the Proving Grounds.

NATIA:
Just like that?  After what he said, we're just going to -

LESKE:
(tired) What else are we gonna do, Nat?

NATIA:
I don't... I don't know!  Start our own gang.  Go to the surface!  Something, anything, other than this!

LESKE:
Dwarves don't dream, Nat.  Come on, let's -- (Natia crosses her arms, turns her back on LESKE and huffs at the wall.)  Fine, whatever.  When your Highness is done with your royal snit, I'll see you at the Proving Grounds.  Maybe I can case the place while I'm waiting... (Exit LESKE)

NATIA turns to face audience as orchestra starts up.

NATIA:
Dwarves don't dream.  (thinking it over)  Dwarves... don't...

(sings)
Is that even true?
If it is,
what will I do?
If dwarves don't dream
what does that mean
For me?

Should I give up?
Should I give in?
Let go these hopes
That there's some way
To win?

Nothing but dust
Is what they say
But hot winds can rise,
Blow dust away
From here...

Maybe dwarves don't dream
But salroka,
We sure scheme
And plot and plan and cheat
To get our way!
I'm a duster,
Sure that's true
With a brand
You can't undo
But I feel it
In my breast
I was born to
Be the best!
And I'll find a way to get there -
Show 'em all they'd best beware---!

(NATIA looks offstage and freezes; music cuts off abruptly.  She scuffs her feet and looks down.)

(speaks)
Sure, Natia, you keep telling yourself that.  (sighs)  Better go find Leske before he gets pounded into the dirt by one of the Proving fighters...  (NATIA shuffles off-stage)

@Corker *claps*

I'm pretty sure the three paralyzed Tranquil in the Tower turn into shades, not abominations.

That's correct. I just finished Broken Circle again yesterday, and caught onto that. In addition, it wasn't a demon transforming them - it was an abomination.

I apologize for the mistake.

Oh, no problem. I just remembered because I played through it recently and was trying to save all three of them. :)

Blood Magic draws power from your Life Force or the Life Force of others and dosnt require a connection to the Fade like regular magic does.

Ive never seen it yet but its technicaly possible for a Dwarf to be a Blood Mage.
How they learn how to be one is a whole other story though.

You're talking about drawing power.
I'm saying how would a dwarf use blood magic, if they can't weild regular magic. It's the difference between the type of battery, and a working circuit.

Your not thinking about it correctly, to wield magic in the Dragon Age universe only requires the knowledge of it and a connection to the fade. (Generaly this connection to the fade is the proverbial cart before the horse)
Blood Magic bypasses that.

To use your description. A Dwarf is like a car with a dead battery, when it comes to magic. Blood Magic is the alternator. All you need is one spark to get it to turn over and the Alternator will take over.

So its technicaly possible, but as I have said how this is done is up in the air. I would assume something like a powerful demon or blood mage would be required.
