if i import a save from ME1 with one shepard, but beat the game twice using different choices, will i be able to upload both and play them on ME2? for example i beat the game on ME1 but then reloaded midway through the campaign and made different choices. would that be alright?

ME1 uses a hidden save file for importing into ME2; 'said' file also lacks the final decision in the game. Making the assumption that if the hidden save file does not get written over playing as you intend to then you should have two files to import.

I'm having a similar problem. So on the Xbox it uses a hidden save file for a clear save? How would that work would we save our game profile save file and a save file right before Saren to get a clear save on a different system? Cause i've been trying to play Mass Effect 2 on my roomate's 360 till i get my own copy of it that is on the 360 since he has all the DLC like i did for the PS3 version.

You'll have to type a bit clearer, Panznerr. A lot of what you wrote merges together making it a touch difficult to know precisely what your question is. As such I will answer the question(s) I think you're asking.

ME on the 360 uses a hidden autosave for a clear game; that is true. As such I believe it is also the case that you cannot just go into the 360's memory to select that file to transfer or copy to elsewhere. The safest thing would be to have a save file before the last battle against Saren, and transfer that to a new console if need be. You will have to replay the last battle (do it on casual to speed things up) to generate the hidden save file.

If that doesn't answer your question, come back again and perhaps I or someone else can help you out with the info you need.

Yeah sorry for being unclear. I type pretty fast and sometimes my thoughts don't keep up at times. So a lot of the time my thoughts/sentiences merge together a lot. But yes that was what i was asking. I'll give that a try later on tonight.

In addition to that, it might depend on how you move your ME saves as well. When I upgraded my HD I used the official transfer cable. Memory is a bit fuzzy but I think it transferred everything including the hidden autosaves. I 'say' this because I deleted a lot of old careers yet I had import files available for deleted characters.

Either way, good luck.

What about booting up ME2 on my Console then importing my file from ME1. Then I should be able to save in the Cerberus Faclity and move that to the other console shouldn't I?

Depends what you have in mind. While it's true that the initial Normandy bit is compulsory, and the character creation screen doesn't occur until you're on Lazarus Station, you can't actually save during that initial opening sequence. Once at the character creation screen there is no going back.

Now, following the discussion on the import file from ME, that file needs to be available before you start a new ME2 game, otherwise there will be no file for the importer to recognise. If you want your ME character in ME2, you need that autosave before a new ME2 game.

The import utility tool comes with ME2, and can be installed to the HD when you install ME2 to the HD as well. The option to import comes up during the character creation screen. So technically you will have to boot up ME2 to import from ME (the import utility tool is a part of ME2 and is not a standalone tool as such). And you can save on Lazarus Station but only after creating your character.

In other words, there are no short cuts to be taken.

So I would have to basically do as you said and fight Saren again on the other system to create the hidden auto-save file for it to import. Instead of Importing my ME1 file to ME2 then moving both the ME2 save file and the ME2 importer file. What exactly does that do anyhow under the Xbox Memory.

I have Mass Effect 2 Data File Libary where it stores my Save files, the Discs I Installed through the 360's feature, then some of DLC like Firepower pack. Then I have a completely different Data file Library called Mass Effect 2 Imported.

For me to understand you correctly, correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I gather you intend to get ME2 for your 360; but transfer saves from your friend's 360? That's the impression that I am getting from some of the info in your first post. Also, where are your ME saves? Please clarify those two points so I have it clear in my head what your precise situation is.

Let me just clarify one point before going any further, as I sense some confusion, the ME2 import utility tool only accepts the hidden autosave. (You cannot, for example, finish ME, start a new game plus, and try and import an incomplete new game plus to ME2.)

ME1 save files on my system
ME2 w/ all DLCs on his system

Wanted to xfer my imported Shepard either by doing what you suggested or importing the file on my system with Mass Effect 2. Then saving on Cerberus Faclity then xfer that file to his system.

Might be easier for me to somehow come up with $50 i don't have next month to spend on the add-ons lol.

Right, I'm beginning to get the picture now. So for the foreseeable future you will be playing ME2 on his system, correct?

You have the two ways to do so as you suggested.

(1) Transfer your most recent ME (likely to be an autosave) save file from your 360 to his system, and replay the final battle to generate the autosave. Then start ME2 to complete the import.

(2) Install ME2 on your 360, import as normal (you already have the hidden autosave needed for import). Save, and transfer onto his 360. (Be warned though; ME2 uses some sort of copyright protection on the saves, which means you cannot copy the saves; you can only move them.)

Either way, there's some faffing about with save transfers to deal with. Choose whichever you feel is best. (Personally I think 2 saves you time.)

I do wonder if they'll release an ultimate version of ME2 for the 360. Would be nice, and it could (ideally should) save you some money.

Yeah i think Mass Effect 2 save file would be faster. Thanks so much for helping me clear this up. It explains a lot why my roomate when he got a new 360 and xfered his save file to it for his Soldier it didn't allow him to import it to the 2nd game cause it didn't have the hidden system save file for the career. Anyhow thanks. I would hope they do but i don't know if i could wait that long for the Ultimate Edition of Mass Effect 2 for the 360.
