The cake is a lie!

LOL. One of my fave DAO quotes ever.

But I too would play DAO first, then DAII. Both are IMO good games with flaws I can forgive, more or less. And both are better than 90% of what's cluttering up the shelves these days.

A bit of an exaggeration there, IMHO. DAO is IMHO more cliché story and character wise but its longer dev cycle permitted greater care when it came to polishing the final product. (Enviroments, wave combat that is hardly ever visible as such, gorgeous GUI and stuff like that. And the story, while plagued by problems too esp. the endings, is done in a way that hides the shortcomings better while the Mage ending for DAII is in desperate need of a rewrite)

It's worth it, DA2 is a good game, PC is best since you can get mods

It is worth it, but da:o is worth a buy as well. As for platforms. If you like mods. PC. If you don't like mods - whatever suits you best.

At its current price, do you guys think DA2 is worth spending the money on, or would it be better to go with a different fantasy RPG?
I personally have only played the demo and i think that it was much better than its competitors, but im not sure if i should buy it. or just buy origins.

Also as a sidenote, which platform do you think its best for?

I bought DA2 when it was first released, and although it didn't meet my high expectations, I still thought it was worth the money back then. As the price is no doubt cheaper now, then its even greater value for money.

I don't know what other fantasy RPGs you've played, but I would strongly suggest you should play DA:O and The Witcher 1 & 2 at some point. Treat those as a higher priority than DA2, but make sure to play DA2 eventually.

I played on PC, keyboard and mouse controls work well, and it was very stable for me even before any patches.

Rent it first if you can and give it a few hours. The start is a weak point in the game so don't judge it by the first 20 minutes.

If you do want to buy it, I don't think it's worth the current asking price. If I were you, I'd wait for a price change or a bundle after all the dlc is out and on sale.

I got it on sale at steam for $15. After playing it I wouldn't recommend you pay anymore for it.

DA2 has it's strong points but it feels really rushed. While playing through it I can't shake the feeling the developers just got lazy during parts of it :| (seriously how many times can you reuse the exact same cave and house and still make the game replayable and fun).

Best thing I found about DA2 is the mechanics.

I recommend you buy Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition and play it through first. That'll keep you busy for a loooong time. (then again this is coming from someone who played a couple hundred hours in a month)

so the general consensus is just buy Origins Ultimate Edition and wait for a price drop?

My advice is rent DA2 first, then decide. And Origin ultimate edition is a good deal imo.

Well, if you haven't played DA1 yet, then yes, that's what I'd do. I've only played it on the PC but it works well there and you get access to a toolset and mods.

I enjoyed DA2 quite a bit myself, but if you've never played Origins, I'd certainly go the route you just described.

And PC is the best platform, if you have a machine that can run it. For both mods and better graphics. If you're on a console, it shouldn't matter which you pick.

From what I hear, PC is the way to go, but I play on 360 for the relaxation aspect.

Personally, I always assume games will look better on the PS3 than 360, but that may just be psychological. Perhaps the Blu Ray thing? I dunno.

Rent DA2 or rent both then decide, most people here though [other than few exceptions *cough rinpoch*] would recommend buy DAO Utimate Edition first. Which in way is funny really given DA2 was supposed to bring in new players with it's features yet when people come here they almost always told out of the two buy DAO and then rent DA2 to see if you like it before buying.

As for format there is no toolset so any mods are very limited. Though as always PC graphics are better which is upside. The PC version I also beleive is cheaper, however all this is personal preference which you prefer to play on. I believe you already know which you want to buy it on and just wanted to know if any other format had something the others didn't in regards to extra content in which case as far as I know, other than very limited mods on PC all others have same content.

Well I prefer DA2 but in a series like this I'll always just recommend what's first chronologically. For series like Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry though I get to recommend the third game in both series cause they're both prequels and the best in the series imo.

It's worth it to pick it up, most especially if you enjoyed DAO. Get it for PC if you can, if only for the mods. WAY too many to choose from to add tons of replay value. And more and more are made every day.

There is so much wrong with this post I hardly know where to start.

Let's start here, IF you enjoyed DA:O and you think that DA2 would be anything like DA:O, you are wrong and it is likely that you will not enjoy DA2.  If you expect DA2 to be DA:O2 then you will hate DA2 with a passion that is usually reserved for Rage Demons.  Beware!

Why is this even an argument? I was just at GameStop yesterday, and saw that you could buy a used DA2 for less than $20. Just buy the dang thing, and take it back if you don't like it.

I agree with happy_daiz, I got it as soon as it came out, wasn't thrilled but It was pretty good. Worth $20 - $30 in my opinion, just take it back if you don't like it.

I think the answer is pretty much always PC if you can run it...

Denizen89 wrote...

I would say do not buy it, rent the thing. Don't waste your money.

Rent a 60 hour game? Really?

Edit: And everyone's saying wait for a price drop, how much is it where you are? Because it's less than 1/2 its RRP new  on amazon.co.uk.

Yes. It's pretty much the best game ever made.
