Well 2 deserters out of how many?

Not very many, really, if you only count Warden's we've had a decent amount of dealings with.

Also, I'm sure most people don't want to be Wardens, assuming that there
life will be nothing but an endless battle against Darkspawn. I cant
imagine, there are too many people excited about it, especially those
who are taken like the Dalish Warden. However, like you see with Carver,
the attitude can change to something positive.

I'm not saying that most don't end up feeling some sort of loyalty to the order.  But it only takes one blabbermouth, one ex-templar who's still loyal to the Chantry, and the secret is out.

And even if you don't mind being a  Warden, doesn't mean you think keeping their secrets is sensible.

And if you blab warden secrets, how many people would be willing to join the wardens? In order to prepare for the blights they would have to constantly conscript people. And if they overused that right, you can bet that the countries of thedas would not be happy with the Wardens at all.

Well that's where that brotherhood thing comes in, even if you don't want to be there anymore, your still loyal to your brothers in arms. Especially since your just serving a death sentence with these people, but its a burden you can share with the other Wardens. Also I'm sure the first thing they do, is instill in each new recruit the importance of what the Wardens do, knowing that, I cant imagine people giving up their secrets. When a Blight comes around and there are no Wardens because you told everyone about the joining, well the world is screwed. New recruits also probably don't know much outside of the joining.

About the same as currently, probably.  The only "secret" which might put people off is the casualty rate on the joining, and I can't see how that's still a secret - are we really supposed to believe that no one notices that 3 Warden recruits go in and only 1 comes out a Warden?

And the recruits you do get won't be as inclined to resent the order for recruiting them under false pretenses.

I think the Chantry knows perfectly well that the Joining involves bloodmagic (and most of the other Warden secrets) and isn't happy about it in the slightest. I also think the Chantry *pretends* it doesn't know so it can overlook it. Whatever else the Chantry may be, they DO look at the long term and they aren't *completely* stupid. As long as there are old gods still unaccounted for, the Wardens and their blood-magic ways have to be tolerated (at least that's almost certainly the reasoning high up in the Chantry).

That's my thought too. Even if for the moment I don't think it's really blood magic. But the chantry would consider it as such as well.

Besides, they know perfectly that despite this process, it is a necessity against the darkspawn, like giving  lyrium to their Templars is a necessity to combat mages, at least for better efficiency and strengthen their own powers.

Well people better hope these are Old Gods and not just Dragons, because then after seven Blights when they think its over, they will be unprepared for that eight lol.

"I'm sorry, my lady, but your husband was killed by the Darkspawn."

That's really all they need to say. In some instances (Padric Howe), the family might not be told, but given Arl Rendon Howe hated what Padric did, I imagine that even if he was told Padric died in the Joining he wouldn't have told anyone else because he hated the Wardens.

Jory: The more I hear about this joining the less I like it.
Daveth: Are you blubbering again?
Jory: Why all these damn tests? Have I not earned my place?
Daveth: Maybe it's tradtion, maybe they're trying to annoy you.
Thorin: Are all humans such cowards?
Jory: I only know that my wife is in Highever with a child on the way. If they had warned me....it just doesn't seem fair.
Daveth: Would you have come if they warned you? Maybe that's why they don't. The Wardens do what they must right?
Jory: Including sacrificing us?

I just added in that conversation to show, that even if leaders of countries and the chanty may or may not know the details of the joining, it's certain that most people don't. And many wouldn't join if they knew.
