This would make the creation more diverse and open to more things. Like Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic and Asian. Then having a skin tone slider, more face options and waaaay more hair options would be be awesome. I know having differentVoices is a big obstacle do, maybe but defently the others.

These options already exist through a combination of facial structures, skin tones and more. An option to select an ethnicity might make it easier for a player to build a character, but it would be more restrictive because it would effectively work by eliminating 80%+ of the options.

I THINK they "confirmed" (never know this early, right) that we will have way more options in the CC in ME3. :)

I don't know...I think BW has done a pretty good job with that....I have seen a number of very well done, very ethnically orientated Sheps on this Forum....I have a Native American myself and his come up pretty evident in his ethnicity.

Those 'Hair Options'...yes, yes please BW...for manShep too, not just femShep.

Ethnicity in Mass Effect is done very well. The hair may be the only thing lacking. And I'm pretty sure we're not getting more voices. Not that we should or anything.

They have it with Fallout 3 and New Vegas so I don't see why not.

Because the both games have completly different CC systems? Not to mention characters in Fallout look awful, even more so when you compare them to the characters in Mass Effect.

Nope, Mass Effect's CC is pretty much perfect only thing missing is some better hair.

So your saying that Fallout characters look bad because they have ethnicity options?

No, it's because the ethnicity was implemented poorly in the Fallout games.

In the future, ethnicity stops being all that noticeable anyway.

no they look bad, becasue no matter how much you costumize them they look wrong and more or less the same.  hair is like the only thing that I found to be better in fallout then in ME.  even skintones in ME have a lot more visible range then in Fallout.  fallout is a great game, but CC is NOT one of its strength.

as for ME character creator?  more sliders would be nice, few more options for shapes and definitely better hair, but I beleive they have confirmed all of the above.  I've been abel to create pretty convincing racialy diverse Shepards as it is, I just miss narrower/longer faces, more options for cheekbones, etc - sliders that increase/reduce specific face part sizes, like in DA would be lovely too.

No they look bad because they all enter the Uncanny Valley no matter how hard you try.

Yep, that's how I see it, too. The mixture of different ethnic features in most humans in the ME universe is actually mentioned quite often in the books. Therefore it does make sense not to have an outright selection in the CC.
More options for the existing sliders are always welcome of course.

While I approve of the idea, the only problem I see is both the name and voice. Shepard is a very clear Western last name for example, so was Hawke, Cousland, etc.

The voice is also clearly Western as well (Though in ME, you can easily write this off with the translators).

Playing an Asian Shepard would be neat though...

This as well, when you deal with other sentient species, being 'Japanese', 'English' or 'African' stops being that big a deal, you're simply 'human'. You're a collective group.

This however, does make me curious if other races are like this....

No they look bad because the Gamebyro engine is awful.

No they look bad because the Gamebyro engine is awful.

Played Fallout NV today and it is really hard to play that game longer than 30 minutes. It's too dated.

Having distinct ethnicity options in CC would be nice. I mean, I'd like to make a hybrid looking guy like me, but alas, it is impossible. It's either far too dark, or too light, and it's hard to get mixed looking features. They are either "this" or "that." What I'd like for a character creation would be something closer to Wrestling games, White Knight Chronicles, or even Demon's Souls (though it was a bit weak in some areas). Those games let you do a lot of customizing on features. WKC let you make a character that looked animeish or you could make a guy that looked relatively realistic (though still cartoony because of the style of graphics).

I'm not asking for the ability to make Sheperd a midget, but some more varying options would be nice.

No reason to create characters who look exactly like people from today, really. All ethnicities have blended together a lot come ME time, so everyone's a huge mix any way =)

Honestly, if anything I'm confused as to why this isn't much more notable in the games themselves.

Yeah, which is why it bothers me so much that making a mixed looking guy is so difficult. :(

Not much ethnical diversity in the Mass Effect universe, but hey, if we have an additional filter for the character creator, I'm in.

The funny thing about that is that game is maybe a year old at this point. And a good example why I don't play most Bethesda games for the graphics...

Anyway.  I've seen several ethnicities done in ME already... a few of the precepts lean towards one or the other to begin with.  So it can be done.  But perhaps a few more features to choose from on certain things might help.

All those head shape presets are ethnicities. If you look at them in the code they're named stuff like "young asian" and "old caucasian."

But yeah the hair needs to be better. It's a serious recurring problem with BioWare's character generation (though the ME franchise is a little better with male hair at least). Morrowind let my Nerevarine have a fro, BioWare. Morrowind. When you're underperforming a Bethesda game from 2002 in terms of aesthetics, you are Doin' It Wrong.

Fortunately shaved-head femSheps can look pretty good. But it gets very same-y.
