Judeo-Christian philosophy is clear regarding homosexuality and Ashley seems devout. No, it wouldn't make sense at all for her to be a lesbian.

So there are no Judeo-Christian homosexuals?

If they practice homosexual behavior, no.

Last time I checked, homosexuality didn't have some sort of elevated status above all other sins that also excommunicates you from your religion. There are plenty of homosexual Judeo-Christians, just like there are plenty of Judeo-Christian thieves, murderers, adulterers, liars, shellfish eaters, etc., etc.

Then those people shouldn't be Christians.

The Bible is not friendly to homosexuals. Any Christians who is needs to take a step back and realise that they're not following their supposed holy text, and either do what the book says, or leave the damned religion behind where it belongs.

Have you ever eaten shellfish? Have you ever worn a cotton-polyester blend? Have you ever had premarital sex? Have you ever worked on the sabbath? Have you ever been near or touched a menstruating woman? Have you ever cursed your parents? If so, you are a sinner and should not be a Christian. Actually, if we're taking Biblical laws seriously, a couple of those mandate that you should have been killed.

I think that is a rather close-minded opinion, honestly. I share Sundance31us' skepticism.

It's pretty simple actually. You cannot be a member of a religion if you blatantly contradict everything that the religion teaches.

Homosexuality is not "everything" that any religion teaches.

The second commandment is "Thou shalt not kill." It's not "Thou shalt not kill, except in self-defense, or your government tells you to, or you're carrying out a lawfully ordained execution." It's "Thou shalt not kill," full stop.

Police officers, soldiers, executioners, normal people... all violate the commandment every day. And yet they're still Jews, they're still Christians.

Biblical passages concerning homosexuality are found in the same parts of the Bible that mention wearing certain patterns of cloth as horrible sins. Lot is celebrated as the only good man in a city of rapists, and then has sex with his daughters.

Looks like no one is actually Judeo-Christian. Even the dudes in the Bible themselves!

Hell, I'll bet God isn't Judeo-Christian. I mean, She totes knocked up a girl without consent. That's pretty bad. But, in the immortal words of Tricky Dick, "If the President does it, it's not illegal."

Re-read my damned post.

I'm sick of people making assumptions about me in every bloody thread.

I was talking about Christianity. I didn't say I was a Christian.

Well there are christians out there who are gay and practice christianity. There ARE different ways to interpret the bible.

Btw, lets stop talking about religion because this thread will be closed.

You cannot be a true Christian while being a practicing homosexual. There is a huge contradiction there. It's that simple.

This.  I really don't get how some members of this religion get so high and mighty about this.  Homosexuality is no worse than premarital sex, which a ton of people engage in these days.  Heck, homosexuality didn't even make it into the Ten Commandments, and I'm pretty sure the average person breaks at least one of those on a near-daily basis.  Some people need to experiment with humility.

The original point this little argument seemed to stem from though is someone claiming Ash can't possibly be an S/S romance because she appears to be a devout Christian. As people mentioned though, there are MANY prominent people who appear to be a devout Christian, even moreso than Ashley, and we learn they're homosexuals, or at least bisexuals. Ashley already participates in premartial sex, so how is homosexuality somehow impossible?

Then no one is a Christian. Where in the Bible is homosexuality singled out as the greatest sin of all, the only one that makes you not a Christian if you commit it? (Psst: the answer is nowhere. Being homosexual doesn't make you any less of a Christian than wearing a cotton-polyester blended shirt does. Kinda the whole point of that Jesus dude is that all people are sinners.)

Your post shows your ignorance of what Christianity is about. I would explain it to you in detail, but I suspect the effort would be wasted.

Christianity is not about being arrogant, judgemental, and holier-than-thou, despite what a lot of loud idiots these days would have people believe.  Maybe you should be the one handing in your Good Christian card, hmm?

Okay, we've established that Christianity is full of nonsensical, bigoted ridiculous crap.

And we've also established that most Christians in the world don't hold true to most Christian doctrine.

Meaning two things.

1) Ashley is just as much Christian as other Christians (and can do whatever she wants really without negative impact on the so-called religion of hers).

2) Christianity is a mess.

Next topic please before the threads gets shut down. :wizard:

Of course. It's always the same 'you don't understand Christianity" when an uncomfortable fact about a religion gets quoted. I was raised a Christian, I know damn well what is it about and I know damn well what is it hypocrite about. If any effor would be wasted, it would be an effort to try and make you realize Christianity is suppoused to be about love.

You quoted archaic laws that no longer apply, such as the mixed-fabric verse. The coming of Christ washed those away. The law against homosexuality still very much applies, as there are verses about it in the New Testament.
In any case, the main point is that it would be bad-storytelling and blatant fanservice on Bioware's part to make established characters gay, especially ones like Ashley.

You may have noticed that there were a few character 'betrayals' present in DA2 as well (in relation to this thread, Anders became gay if you were manHawke and decided to romance him).

The answer: Bioware don't care. Gameplay > Lore, from their design standpoint.

That was a different team though. The ME and DA teams approach romances differently.
