For those of you who have taken Legion on Tali's loyalty mission while still having time to do Legion's loyalty mission without risking the crew, what steps did you take?

I got Legion and activated him. I went to do Tali's mission. Then I talked to Legion again and did his mission. Then the crew got abducted and I went to the suicide mission.

Cool, thanks guys! I'd like to use Legion a bit more than just the 2 loyalty missions. So, if I save some of the N7 assignments for after the SM, are there any downsides to that? fewer credits, etc?

Nothing other than fewer credits to spend on armor, and less experience, meaning fewer skills to fight the collectors with.
