Yeah, you're going to have to justify "waste of resources." Marketing is marketing - it's as much aimed at female gamers in general as it is to the female ME fanbase.I'd also consider it a waste of resources giving a trailer to a vocal minority who are buying the game anyway.
Would you be interested in a full Cinematic FemShep Trailer too?

And seeing a trailer featuring a woman(who probably looks nothing like the one you created) instead of a man will swing it for you, when you KNOW that you can be a female anyway?kirvingtwo wrote...

Possibly. It will definitely swing the pendulum closer to a purchase for me.Druss99 wrote...

Fair enough. What criteria you use to decide on a purchase is your call, its a million miles from mine but its your game and your money I can't judge or criticise you for that. But I stand by my original opinion.kirvingtwo wrote...

I gave my opinion, I didn't state a fact. Marketing seems to have already pulled in a fairly sizeable number of female gamers and males wanting to play Female Shepard, how many do you suppose are out there that a) don't know there's a female lead character andRandom Jerkface wrote...

People people!! We have got to back away from the panic button here... think for a second about the chain of events reguarding FemShep. She is on the box. She had a bunch of attention when we voted which one was the best version (THANK GOD the redhead beat out the blonde) Surely the FemShep trailer is coming down the pipe soon. I would guess around the new year at the latest. Everyone just take a breath...
You really thought the blonde that bad? Granted the choices were a bit limited bit I thought Blonde a close second to Redhead. But as with everyone else, my opinion.

have enough interest in ME that just seeing a female lead would make them decide to purchase it? Personally I wouldn't commission another trailer based on that. But neither of us are in marketing so its all conjecture. As I said I just gave my opinion.
I would not be surprised if a lot of people still didn't know one could play as either gender. Again, if it's not advertised, some people will simply look at the box and think, 'Eh, white space Marine...again.'
As a side note, I didn't know Halo: Reach could be played as a female Spartan until I chanced to see a clip on youtube...not Bungie...but Youtube. When I saw that, I decided to buy it. But that's me.

According to the Economist, the avg US gamer is 37 years old and 42% of US gamers are female, so marketing solely to the male 18-24 demographic is stupid.
I don't find those numbers to be odd at all if it includes social networking, cell phone, etc type of games. However I would be shocked if those numbers stayed consistent in "traditional" games. It is a neat statistic for sure, but I don't think it tells us very much about BioWare's market. I very much doubt the average BioWare customer is 37 and 42% are female. Especially considering something like 78% of the people who play the game used Sheploo or custom male Shepards.
As for femShep -- I thougt the blonde looked great, but blonde hair in the engine Mass Effect uses sucks with hair especially blonde hair, so I just voted red head -- the first vote I think I went with option #1 (short hair brunette).

And honestly I don't understand you guys exitement over her. We had a FemShep but we only get the promise of her being included in their marketing after she's been through a makeover? A make over that requires her to wear three times more make up than she did before and makes her look like she's in her late teens.
Meanwhile Sheploo went from looking like he's in his twenties to looking like he's in his fourties but nobody bats an eyelash at that. It's only the female character that has to look youthful and dolled up to be allowed to be seen in public.
So yeah, thanks but I'm done with FemShep, default or not and I really rather would not ever see her face in a trailer...

Normally I would love for us to get a FemShep trailer also, but with the way it's been handled I just find the whole FemShep thing insulting and won't play as her at all anymore.

You do bring up a fair point. Makes one wonder if FemShep is aimed more towards male or female players. I also wonder how many women in the company had some say in this new 'makeover'?

Actually, I would like to see a in game trailer of all the different customization femshep will have, but a CGI trailer seems somewhat pointless.Druss99 wrote...

Yes, that did include "Farmville" type games, but some of those "casual" female gamers could be lured over with the right marketing. I didn't want to buy Mass Effect until I heard that playing as a female character was an option. Letting female gamers know that they can play as a badass female marine can only improve sales to that demographic. Like in politics, playing only to the base may make you feel good, but the winner is going to be the one who can get new voters/consumers on their side.
As for FemShep being turned into Lolita, it would be nice if she looked to be 25 at least. However, as someone who grew up when female action heroes didn't exist, I'll be pleased as long as she's clothed appropriately and doesn't have huge breasts.
