Nah, it will be a trailer using the in-game engine.
While I kinda like the idea of a fully rendered cinematic trailer featuring femshep, I honestly don't see it happening. Those trailers each usually cost a couple million dollars alone (if they're made by Blur anyway) for just 1-2 minutes.... I'd be content with a trailer that cost them only whatever salary they're paying to some in-house guy that makes community content by piecing together footage with the in-game engine... there's little to no added cost from that and they don't have to outsource a million dollar expenditure to Blur or whoever else....
Kind of a waste of resources for little gain (especially since poor femshep seems to have nearly as many detractors as she does fans <_< ), but it's not my money so I don't care much either way, heh.

It costs too much to make a cinematic trailer, whats the point of doing an femshep one, didn't Casey say that it took toomuch resource for something only 1/5 of players use.
Has he considered perhaps that maybe only 1/5 of players use it because there are no trailers?
The way to broaded a market is to advertise to them.
I agree! It's a chicken/egg argument. Are there no ads because of the limited fem appeal or is there a limited fem appeal because there are no ads. (I tend to err on the side that if the gaming industry went after more women by acknowledging they exist, they'd have more women who buy their games and play them)
Anyhow, yes! To the trailer. Yes to femShep. Yes to every little last piece of marketing thrown her way. I only ever got into Mass Effect after reading an article in Game Informer about ME (I think it was the second one) that explictly stated I could be both a) a woman and

Bioware seriously need to advertise that you can play as femshep. I was talking to a friend at a party and she said she liked Dragon Age. I asked her if she had played ME, she basically said she wasn't interested because it looked male-oriented. I told her you could play as a female and that the choices you make across ME1 & 2 will affect ME3, and there was an opportunity for romance. It sparked her interest.
So to summarise, Bioware needs to market Femshep, because the message isn't getting out to the female gamers. Bioware needs a cinematic advert for femshep, and a game box case that has femshep on it. Customers can walk into a store and pick up a sheploo or femshep game case.
Only 20% of players played as FemShep, and some were male, but 40% of gamers are female. There's obviously a fan base they're not reaching right now. Since a trailer has already been confirmed, obviously marketing is aware of this.
If you want something to take off, get both genders talking about it. Word of mouth just spreads better that way.

However.. the moment you include the title "gamer" as anyone who plays games on Iphone, Ipad, smartphones etc as well... then yes, 40% is certainly accurate.

You're either very sheltered, naive or simply ignorant if that's what you believe / think.
Again... read my post more closely.. I said out of console & PC gamers, I'd guess (based on my own female friends / associates I know), about 20-25% are female.... MMOs, are probably close to 40% female (they appeal to women & girls much more than the usual meat head nonsense the boys like on consoles... i.e. COD, Gears of war, Street Fighter, etc)... so we tend to gravitate there more so than the other games, hence the higher population.
But, if you count people who use portable devices (smartphones, Ipads etc) as gamers too (Angry Birds anyone?) then that statistic skyrockets EASILY to 40% of gamers being women (you're insanely ignorant if you think women don't play games on their smartphones too).
EDIT: Also, the reason you probably never encounter females in your online gaming experiences is because we seldom ever announce it... for many obvious reasons.

Very true.. though the rare times when I do play online games these days, I actually prefer people assume I'm a guy anyway - can be left to my own devices that way ... and I always play under masculine names and stay off the mic at all times.. especially after a few.. unpleasant... incidents I experienced a couple years back that pretty much scared me off ever saying a word on a microphone in game ever again, hehe).

And as a male you're applying male logic to your determination as to the ratio of female to male gamers.
You cited Left 4 Dead... a game genre (first person shooter) that appeals to a very select rare few women (probably 1 in 20.. if that much even, as you said). Try citing other genres... puzzle, RPGs, simulations, MMOs, adventure, etc and you'll find noteably higher ratios.
But as a male how would you know the genres that interest us? Since the genres we play are generally not online experiences (save for MMOs), you wouldn't encounter many female gamers. Most are playing their games in a single player capacity (we're either playing Dragon Age, Witcher, The Sims, Mass Effect, etc etc... not places where you can "encounter" us since they're offline games).
The only physical world basis you have to determine the frequency of female gamers is your significant other, sister, mother, aunt, niece, etc... a very small, narrow window to base something like that off.
But if you're basing the notion that 20% of all gamers can't possibly be females based on your very blind / narrow understanding of gamers / gaming, then I could easily understand why it's unfathomable to you why we seem like the Lochness Monster... a "myth" and all.
Perhaps you need to consider the possibility we don't always play the same games as men, hmm?
You played with G.I. Joe action figures when you were a small boy I played with... well... I didn't have dolls as a little girl, I thought they were scary and stupid, I played outside... but you get my point

Yes, I'm sure some moms are buying games for their children, like I buy games for my DAUGHTER--who has a Wii and a DSIXL, and a DSIite and a gameboy and a gameboy advanced and has access to her father's PS3 and my XBox360. And some moms, like me, buy games for themselves. The point of that statistic is to prove women have lots of buying power for games. Which they do.
What's the point of this discussion? Anyhow. There are girl gamers. More than you want to believe. Don't worry. You won't get cooties.
Anyhow, baaack to the topic at hand: More yes on the trailer, please.

Very good point (one of the many reasons I adore Mass Effect and femshep.. can play a non sexualized female character)... and in fact, come to think of it... I can't think of ANY game that had a major cinematic trailer with a female lead character that wasn't flaunting T&A of said lead character all over the blasted screen.... if femshep did show up in a full Blur-style cinematic trailer, I think it would be (one of) the first ever.
Shame it still won't happen though... blegh. ... but, I'll be content to get an official femshep trailer regardless, even if it's just in-game engine stuff.
EDIT: unless... unless... nooo.. they wouldn't..... would they? I mean.... would they skank-up femshep for a full cinematic trailer?.... no... never... no.... would they? Oh heavens help me now I'm scared.

This. Anyone who honestly thinks Femshep will get a Blur trailer is deluding themselves. It'll be an Ingame trailer like we saw e.g. for the Shadowbroker DLC.Mims wrote...
I highly, highly doubt a blur trailer. Mostly because I'm pretty sure DS said it's an ingame trailer.
And, blur trailers ARE expensive. I'm not talking thousands here. Think hundreds of thousands. Or more. You're talking about cinematics here that have to be story boarded, designed, rendered, lit, animated, and then editted just like a film would. The assets you see in a blur trailer are not game assets, they've got to be created from the ground up. [For the most part. We can assume bioware does a good amount of the art design. I also assume Blur knows how to do some fancy tricks with reusing their own assets.] But it's not a simple matter of just cut and pasting Femshep into the cinematic.
The only way they could really do it is to have a manshep trailer that also featured Femshep. But at the moment, this trailer we're voting for is an ingame trailer.
[Not that I'd begrudge Bioware for spending some crazy money on Femshep! But, I'm saying that you'd have more impact spending your money elsewhere.]
