To expensive for the niche 20% market that is the femshep fanbase.

You do know that's over 630 000 people?

Which is like 10-20 million dollars gained from them?

I would love a CGI one. I think it would be far more awesome!!  B) But I am realistic in what I expect to get as well so I know its very wishfull thinking

On the plus side a really good gameplay trailer is needed I think instead of seeing the same four or five bad guys we seen so far.  A gameplay vid works for everyone as well.

I'm no more interested in a FemShap trailer than in a ManShep trailer.

20% of the market's 20% of the market. They could spend the same amount and appeal to 80% that they could appealing to 20%. Not saying it's fair, I'm saying that's how a corporation looks at things. And like it or not EA and Bioware are both corporations. That said I don't think there's any reason for them not to do a femshep gameplay trailer, or at the very least a femshep gameplay video.

So if 20% is so low and "niche" thats why they are marketing her

She is a minority no doubt compared to maleshep players. But niche markets tend to be a lot smaller then 20%. .

But anyway this is totally sidetracking

It's a point that I've brought up before. Guys don't care about that sort of stuff, women do, I'm not sure why but they do.

It pisses me of bro, look at all main male characters of movies, books games etc.. they all look good, never has a guy complained that it's unrealistic. Once femi****s got their hands on it, everything had to turn ugly, and the worst part is the hypocricy, if they had a chance to have a relationship with, let's say Johnny Depp, or Leonarda Dicaprio, they'd drop their husbands or BF without a second thought.

Only difference with guys is, we don't act like we don't care about looks. Ladies are always going on about "the inner beauty", if only they'd actually cared. <--Check out some interesting reasearches about this,
What a man looks like does not matter. All that matter is his appearance. Women subconciously care about having a healthy and strong offspring, males only care about having many offspring.

There is a simple test too, pig out, and get all nasty, let your hair grow uncombed, maybe even go for the retro caveman look, see how long it takes for your ass to be replaced.

You also have to think of the possibility of getting more people to play that would be swayed by marketing the female Shepard as well.

I know that if I hadn't known, I would not have purchased either ME1 or ME2. And the only way I did know is because I followed the game development.

^ That statistic is accurate for MMOs, but I agree it's probably not nearly that high for the general console / pc gaming population (and speaking as a female gamer myself, I'd place it more around 20-25%).

However.. the moment you include the title "gamer" as anyone who plays games on Iphone, Ipad, smartphones etc as well... then yes, 40% is certainly accurate.

half of the people who play games are girls?
impossible
i wouldnt even believe that 20% are female
out of the 25 people who ansered this post
im sure not one is a chick

Hathur is correct. If you include only what self-proclaimed "hardcore" gamers consider a true gamer, the number is a lot lower but if you -- as the industry is now starting to do -- include among gamers people who play games like farmville and harvest moon, angry birds, fruit ninja, Wii games, etc, etc, then women do make up nearly half those playing. In fact, considering the rapid growth in social gaming, I would not be surprised if women made up more than half the gaming population in 5 years. There will still be way more boys and men playing stuff like Mass Effect but the video game industry is very large and very diverse.

Will the trailer be about ME 3?
Will the protaganist be called Shepard?

Then yes, I'm very interested.

I wouldn't mind but I'm more interested in learning more about other stuff like UI, RPG elements, game design and squadmates. I mean, Sheploo isn't my Shep either, I don't care for him.

They could start the dev diaries, or is it too soon?

I'm a guy and I play as male shep and female shep. It's not uncommon for me to play as both genders in games. My current avatar is one of my Grey Wardens. It's not about a "need" -- at least not for me -- it's just another way to experience the game. Some of the content is different, many of the interactions are different. And, I must be honest, it's true that part of the reason is that, particularly for repeat playthroughs, I'd rather create a good-looking woman and look at her for 40+ hours than a dude.

...because when you do multiple playthroughs of a game you'll want to mix things up a bit each time?

I'm completely indifferent about the gender I play as, if I play a game with a fixed female protagonist then it doesn't bother me, same if it's a male protagonist.

EDIT: unless... unless... nooo.. they wouldn't..... would they? I mean.... would they skank-up femshep for a full cinematic trailer?.... no... never... no.... would they? Oh heavens help me now I'm scared.

I would cry ginormous tears of bitter feminist rage if that should happen. Bitter, bitter tears.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I remember several years back som mingers where protesting Lara Crofts looks, i never heard anyone complain about Vanderloo's face.

Look at this sexy beast. No dude is going around complaining that he looks too good to be a soldier, that he's skanked up.

Whatever their job is, a womans still a woman, army chicks DO make-up when offduty, they DO dance and they DO wear sexy clothings. What's wrong with doing your job and looking good? Does everyone have to be ugly so some people don't feel offended? This coming from an avarage looking person.

It's a point that I've brought up before. Guys don't care about that sort of stuff, women do, I'm not sure why but they do.

So true. It's just a difference between men and women. Male characters are sexed up and idealized all the time. Men don't care. Show big boobs and a lot of women get very upset. I'm not saying they're wrong to be upset, I'm saying that's just a real difference between the genders.

How about a trailer featuring several shepards, male and female, created by the fans, all blending into the default pair at the end?

As long as femshep is cinematically cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and performing other womanly duties then sure, I'm all for it.

:devil::devil::devil::devil::devil::devil::devil:

I'm just kidding here, so save your cries for blood and have a sense of humor, folks.  Here, I'll fix it...

As long as femshep is cinematically cooking (Fresh killed Varren), cleaning (her rifle), doing (gore and viscera spattered) laundry and performing other (horrifying, yet bad-ass) womanly duties then sure, I'm all for it.

agreed.

though in the end a talented fan will undoubtedly put together a trailer just as stunning (perhaps not as expensive) with the gameplay and cutscenes after its out.  we make what we don't find.  but yeah.  gimme **grabby hands**

I was of the understanfding we were going to get that regardless for femshep, not just ingame preset but also box art and trailers for her. I was pretty sure that is what they promised from the beginning.

Well we were promised a trailer bu not the context of the trailer.  A cinematic one will be awesome. However a recent tweet by David suggests it will be a gameplay trailer.

http://twitter.com/#...955162746617856

@M3cHr3p71l the #FemShep trailer won't come till later. Now that the winner was selected, we need to make her in game.

I would like both over time CGI and gameplay ones.

I don't know what 20% the person above is talking about or where got that figure from but a female lead appeals to more than 20% of the video game players and thats the purpose overall, the pleasing of the fans who wanted a female Shepard are only a part of that larger audience. If a company can bring in even 1-3% new sales they will do that.

I'm all for equal representation, but the more trailers the company has to produce, the more resources that are taken away from the focus of developing the game.

Yes, I don't think just changing the model for one chracter is expensive...
